This is all really great information guys and I appreciate you taking the time to let me know.

Who else has something? Keep the ideas flowing!

4 reasons:

1, I would lose, no contest
2, I can't stand failure
3, Barely knew they were on
4, I'm terrible at almost everything and would easily be outpaced by some of our more literate/creative/insane contributors.

I would have entered the comic and PhotoShop contests, maybe some of the others as well if I'd realized they were going on. As is I spent a while cursing my luck when I looked at the schedule and saw that I'd missed them.

I didn't actually look at the GamerLympics posts until about a week after it started, and only actually realized what it was near the very end of it.

I was too busy watching the actual Olympics to bother with such silly things.

I only have internet access from work, which aside from the obvious issue (I'm at work) also leadt to a couple of follow up issues like not really having much capability as far as the only competitions I was ever likely to compete in, the photoshopping one, and not being able to load/run/play games at all.

Also...the picture results were fun, but I really...just wasn't all that thrilled with the options for the things that I probably could have done, much less with the idea of devoting a week's worth of time to them.

I didn't like the fact that each event didn't go on for the entire week(there wasn't even a board for it the entire week), that seemed weird, seeing as this is the internet, so I was unaware of most of the events, even now I am hearing about Game trivia for the first time. And then there was the whole not liking/being good at any of the events.... and the photoshop one was because of the selection of pictures, I can only do joke pictures when I am struck with an idea. I think you should have things like: More trivia, a internet scavenger hunt(I'm sure you could come up with some stuff to find, like a 4chan picture with an attractive girl in it and 5 responses where no one says any swear words) and some of the stuff that khell said. But the main reason why I didn't compete is sheer laziness.

Okay, because this has come up a lot about there being no event list , http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/366.67641

This timeline was posted 3 days BEFORE the GamerLympics started and was updated daily while the GamerLympics was running.

I wasn't really aware that it was going on. In fact, I'm still not sure exactly what it is. Maybe you could have sent all users a private message advertising it? I only noticed it because I saw some users had badges that stated they won this-and-that place in something, and I assumed it was over already.

(Quoting Yahtzee.) ^ Pretty much that.

Same here as well.

Didn't wanna. Plus the fact I still have no idea what this "gamerlympics" is.

I was so close to joining... but I was on a camp during the events that I was planning on joining.

Sucks to be me.

EDIT: I wouldn't have stood up to the "Portal Goat" pic, anyways. But I would have loved to have written a Haiku.

The actual game parts didn't intrest me, and the other categories I would've failed at.
Also, if Star Craft then there needs to be a War Craft 3. And for old games, Counter-Strike 1.6, ofcourse.

I am floored by the rampant defeatist attitude here. "Oh, I would've lost, so why bother?" I'm stunned by the number of people who are convinced of their failure before they even try.

I frankly didn't know it was happening, I generally don't browse the forums thread by thread anymore, as it's gotten too big for that. I occasionally read the top 5 most active threads when I visit to read this weeks articles. I'm not sure I would have competed, it would have depended on whether or not I had to work while it was going on, (real world concerns take precedence) Otherwise it sounds like fun.

At the risk of sounding bitter, the winners of the photoshop contests were not the best works of art, they were the ones with the cleverest or funniest idea. Similarly, the winner in the comic competition repeated the same Portal screen shot four times. Whoever made that is a lazy little sod.

When I said I lack the ability to create good photoshops, that also includes coming up with original ideas and content ;-)

Without being totally sure that it's what people are saying, wouldn't an online tournament be restricting players to that particular network/game/console ? I appreciate that the online browser games are what everyone's complaining about, because they're all hardcore gamers, but they are much easier to get everyone to participate.

The way I figure it, gamerlympics should be about choosing the talented or devoted from amongst the wide variety of gamers. But doing that without holding countless online tournaments (across all genres and games) proves quite a challenge. Knowledge, memory, hand-eye co-ordination, reaction, these are all some of the traits that games test. But basing a gamerlympics around just these would probably exclude the 90% of us who suck, and play games for fun. Pretty difficult to find a balance for that.

The only thing I can think of is to have a subset of games that anyone could win, perhaps with topics that are very diverse (country/region specific questions for example) and allow anyone at least a fighting chance to get a medal.

1.Something about the 24-hour-long competitions soured me; I usually need more than a day after something has opened up to talk myself into it.
2.Small flash-based games are my drugs: I can't afford to take the chance.

Well, I'm a pretty good loser (read: lots of practice), but I do like to be competitive. I played racquetball for several years with two guys who were both better than me, lost probably three-quarters of the games and still loved it. But I don't like to drag the level of the competition down, and doubly so if it's team based. My reflexes are no better than fair, and my eyes aren't so good anymore either. It takes me longer to resolve things - even the script on The Escapist gives me problems. Given that, although I don't mind losing, I don't like to think I might pull the quality of the competition down and make things less interesting for others.

Oh, trust me, I tried. One of the games was like Missile Command, and I've played Missile Command before. Let's just say that the term "NUCFLASH" is very appropriate at this point.

Showed up too late. I probably would've had I been around/known about it. But alas, too new around here. Next year, definitely, if anyone will remind me or lemme know about it.

Also- to all the people saying "No, I suck at COD4/Starcraft/whatever". It was not Multiplayer related. It was all on this site: www.kongregate.com
flash games, simple games with simple rules. Best score wins.

And I'm now kicking myself for not entering the other 3 photoshop contests... I'm dissapointed (I know there's a double letter in there somewhere...) at not getting a full set of medals but hey, que sera, sera

For those little flash games, you still need hand-eye co-ordination and brains and good reactions to get the high scores... and it's generally only the best gamers in the online games (CoD, Halo, etc) that will have that co-ordination. Hence why people like me, who know they suck at games because of a lack of this ability, don't bother.

Well I'm new here but anything that even sounds like a competitive sport will mean I'm leaving well alone.
Love the idea of Trivia Quizes though. Maybe a bi-Monthly quiz will get people in the mood and 'in the zone' for a competition prpoer.

It was one of those things where I said "Hey, that looks interesting, I should take a look at it sometime" and then I forgot.

I mean, I've been known to 'shop an image or two in my day.

Nope, no idea what it is, let alone where and when. Your problem was advertising. There was none. No one knows what it is.

There was an ad on the front page, we had several news posts announcing it, we created a forum entirely dedicated to it, and there was a GamerLympics skin on the site for more than a full week.

But we wern't realy sure of the subject matter. Attention......

Sorry got distracted.

Personaly I didn't want to sign up with those new sites and go through all that trouble for something I would most likely be outdone in.

P.S. Is it me or is every post I do lately have a part where I put "........" to mean I trailed off, better stop before it becomes a thing.

EDIT/ to be clear I was making a joke about attention spans and the net, not that I didn't think you would get it >Name<.
