Disaster Movie - the clue is in the name. They don't even spoof the classic films of the genre any more - only recent films that some people might have watched.
It truely was vague genre movie, just with a different name. Scary movie 2 was good, 3 was meh. I think 2 should've been the last one but you can see why they made a third.
Yh 3 was pretty good, 4 was awful, but 2 was my favourite
I dont think they should have ever started. But they should after this make MOVIE MOVIE. and then to parody that they would make MOVIE MOVIE MOVIE and then they would need to end cause that would be the most awesome thing ever.
The first one should never have been green lit. The fact that they've churned out so much of the same shit year after year is a fucking disgrace and just proves that if the world did end next week atleast we wouldn't be subjected to any more of this moronic, braindead shite.
The "_____ movie" series is shovel ware, pure and simple. They're cheap to make and turn a high profit, so no one but the critic objects. Thankfully, since Disaster Movie had an abysmal opening weekend (7th place with barely six million dollars), perhaps the trend is on it's last legs. That said, Scary Movie 3 is possibly the best of the lot, which doesn't say a whole hell of a lot. It actually had a focus and adhered to basic rules of parody, and wasn't overtly crude or offensive having never actually relied solely on gross out gags. Date Movie was where the series fell off a cliff.
I liked Scary Movie 3. After that it was just pure [insert_expletive_noun_here]. I was actually conned into seeing Meet the Spartans, and it was the biggest waste of however much time it took in my life. "It's the entire judging team of American Idol that have conveniently appeared here. Let's kick them into the pit as well!"
Stop right at Scary Movie 2. I thought the first and second were marvelous but i was younger so i was probably more easily amused. But the rest of the ____ movies sucked on big, hairy, ox testicles
I think the films have just gotten progressively worse over time. Scary Movie 2 gave me a couple of laughs, as did 3, so I think it should have stopped there. Everything after that was boring and humourless.
three was really funny then the franchise was killed by imps
The first one was hilarious. The second was pretty funny. After that they were all absolute shit and I hope the directors of Scary movie 3 and up die very painful deaths for bringing those travesties they dare call movies into existence.
Where's the option: "The directors/producers should have died in the womb"?
You left out "Meet the Spartans". I think this series of movies highlights a massive problem I've noticed with modern humor, so I have to somewhat thank the directors for doing such a wonderful job of pulling a cultural trend into the open. Humor is basically destructive. We laugh at the evil, the stupid, the inane, the pretentious, the hypocritical, etc. because we're saying that they *aren't important*. Look at the comedy sketch scene from V for Vendetta--laughing at things renders them powerless. It annihilates fear. Now, what *type* of humor you like is a most likely a product of your intellectual scope, preferences, and focus in life (I prefer dry, clever humor, some people like fart and toilet jokes, whatever, live and let live). The problem with modern humor is that they're not attacking things that deserve to be pointed out and roasted, like people's snooty pretensions or the formulaic constructions of a genre. They're taking something that's actually pretty good, adding a few farts or bizarre out-of-context jokes and trying to get you to laugh at it. It is an out and out effort to destroy anything you might love or that might inspire, enlighten, or uplift you. As a gamer, I'm the first one to admit that many of my hobbies contain silly elements that can be lampooned. But when you're trying to lampoon the elements that *aren't* silly, the life-giving core of the thing . . . that's a problem. It reminds me a lot of a quote from Atlas Shrugged: "Francisco laughed because he saw something much greater. Jim laughed as if he wanted nothing to remain great." Not a good trend.
I for one have seen everything they've had to offer thus far and I have to say that they don't know when to quit, not just because they keep pumping out mediocre films they'll continue to make these train wrecks until they can't make money off of them but the individual jokes in the films. For example the scene in "Meet the Spartans" where they were kicking everyone into the well got a little old and I felt that turning on the compacter at the end of the scene and hearing screaming could have redeemed it but then they had to show an aerial view of the hole and everyone being 'flushed' down a drain. I know that, given even a quarter of their operating budget, I could have done a much better job in regards to the humor aspect. Also, has anyone notice those types of movies are where actor's and actress' carriers go to die?
I think we can officially, deny its existence. It thought me one good lesson. I shall never go see movie, because of a trailer.
They should have just pulled the plug after the third scary movie, atleast that way they could have ended on a decent note.
While watching TV I just saw an advert for "Disaster Movie", which frankly looks awful. On most of the other series they have had at least enough funny parts to fill the advert, but now I feel they can't muster 1 minute of comedy.
My point though is, when should these spoofs have have realized they were failing and made some decent films instead?
My feelings is that after Scary Movie 4, they should have realized not as many people liked it and stopped
