Recently I read that the channel 'Dave' has commisioned some new episodes of red dwarf to be aired next year, unfortuantly I read this in a newspaper and cannot find anything other than hints by Robert Llewellyn on the internet, but I'm still excited about it so I decided to start a thread for the 'Dwarfers' among us.

So lets talk about Red Dwarf, and its epicness...

I thought we were going to have a discussion about stars in this thread. =(

Talk about stars if you want, I'm not gonna stop you...

Yay! I saw this thread and thought we'd be talking about - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gliese_581

But since I'm probably the only one here that would talk about stars I'll leave this alone.

This can't be true... I'd die with happyness!

Surely we'd see the film, before a new series. Unless they've given up on it completely.

I hope they don't. They should have stopped them earlier. I have them all and they suck in final series or two.

I have to agree there. I felt the expanded cast and budget towards the end really undermined what the series was about. Of course I'll watch the new episodes (if any), but it's hard to top Red Dwarf in it's heyday.

You'd be surprised. I'd make a "favorite star system and why" thread if I thought anyone cared. Sirius for me. A binary system composed of two bluish white stars, one of them an extinguished White Dwarf?! Can you imagine what that would look like from one of the orbiting planets? Awesome!

Anyway, on topic I've never really seen Red Dwarf (I'm one of those uncultured Americans). I've only recently even heard of The Mighty Boosh. From my experience though you English folk have infinitely better TV than we do, so I hope they come back for another season I guess.

the thing is, Red Dwarf got progressively worse as it went on. with the last series being abomnible due to the splitting of the head writing team. unless they've reformed, don't hope for too much

I really liked season 8, I only ever thought season 7 was bad.

Great show anyway.

I disagree - it didn't suck. It wasn't as good as some of the earlier seasons but very good anyway.

I heard that Red Dwarf did comission a one-hour special, but nothing else. Here you go:

Hope it is popular and we get more episodes, though. They kept trying to do a movie but that never went anywhere unfortunately. :(

Would love to see some more Red Dwarf, as long as they didn't hollywood it up.

Same with the movie, if it ever comes out, i hope it won't be a huge pile of smeg.

If it was a true Red Dwarf movie/continuation of the series i would love it, ending always annoyed me.

Is it weird i am 15 and prefer that show more than whats on tv now *looks at television* WHAT the f^ck is Laguna Beach...*shudder*... i'll stick to Red Dwarf now.

Did anyone see the american pilot? i saw it once at a con when i was 8, It was, interesting. also, at the same con, Hattie "Holly" Hatridge was there, she signed my VHS cover "to James, or should I say 'Ace'."

She was my first crush

Crap I just watched the US pilot for Red Dwarf (didn't know about it but its on youtube) - bloody awful. The only decent actor in the entire thing is Kryten - because it is the same actor. The rest sucks - recycled jokes from the original series and a tenth of the humor. Delivery is horrible too.

It sounds unlikely that they're producing a whole new series.

It's more feasible that Dave may have bought the rights to show one of the newer series, since they only ever seem to show eps from Series 4 and 5.

"Petey? Is that you?"
Season 8 was awesome. But very different from the rest of the show.

My favorite line comes from Better Than Life and shoots by in the background: "Rubber nuclear weapons had to be deployed to disperse the crowd."

I don't really have an opinion about a reboot of the show being cancelled. Some shows can make it work, some have it fail horribly, didn't the original seasons of Red Dwarf have one or two breaks of a couple of years during its creation? Season 8 was made after a hiatus IRC.

Having Death kneed in the jangles and crumpling to the floor saying "that never happened before" is a pretty cool ending for the show I guess.

I really should dig up that 10th anniversary special they did on tv. I got it on tape somewhere and need to transfer it to a digital format. The cooking show with Ainsley Harriot is great stuff. Did they ever release that to dvd?

That's because those are the best series, they have the rights to show all of them.

That's a one hour special and four 30 minute episodes

EDIT: Vortigar perhaps a search of the words 'Red Dwarf Night' on google video would be useful.

I always enjoyed season 3-6 the most. I wouldn't mind watching another season if it had a great ending for the entire series. Could probably just have a movie for that though.

I thought that a Red Dwarf remake/movie would be like Duke Nukem Forever: Geekdom's Second Coming of Christ. I mean with this announcement and that trailer, surely this heralds the endtimes?

I'm all for it. The last two series' were bad when compared to the rest of the show, but if you compare it to an average British sitcom of that era its still decent IMO. Red Dwarf really is one of the best shows evarrrr

Are you talking about a new season??!! If so: About fucking time!! It's bad enough that they left the show on a bloody cliffhanger. I love Red Dwarf, when I was 12 I had a friend at school and we would quote it all the time :D, Yes we were both PHENOMENAL nerds, good times...

Woah new episodes! Has anyone here read the books? I always felt like a bit of a twat for liking them more than the TV show.

(yes, yes. Red Dwarf is where I got my name from back when I was a young stupid fan being.)
