I know it's a classic, but really when I watch it I think HOW ON EARTH COULD SHE DREAM THAT!?!? The whole show is just one big acid trip, I mean really if anyone has a weirder dream than the entirety of this(cannot have been induced from meds,beer,etc) then I will be surprised.
I'll admit I had a weird dream when i was young where I had to go to the bathroom like heck, and these giant crabs chased me around chopping all the toilets up(weird it may be but it's got nothing on Alice).
I would also like to note that there were a total(according to Wikipedia) of 13 writers for this! I think that they made this by all getting high writing what they saw, and then stringing it into a movie.
If anyone disagrees then I welcome your complaint, and you may even change my mind about this, but it's going to be one hell of a challenge! =-D

Um, your post doesn't make for great covnersational material. Anyone who likes the Alice works, LIKE ME, understands where the stories originated from and their point. They started as simply stories ol' Lewie would tell his friends daughter on fishing trips until she asked him to write them down. Anyway, Alice in Wonderland holds nothing on my dreams and stories I make up.
alice in wonderland was a great book even though the author was accused of being mentally ill but anyways a real acid trip would probably account for the sentence. buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo. and indeed it is grammatically correct when the three meanings of buffalo are arranged correctly ie- buffalo the city of new york buffalo the animal also known as a bison and buffalo a verb which means to bother.
Meh sorry if this isn't conversational dynamite, but I'm just laying out my feelings of what I think of it. I do still like it. Maybe I'll get lucky, and someone will post something that really starts a good old argument over this.
I've taken plenty of acid, mushrooms, Ketamine (not all at once!) & other hallucinogenics in my time & although I've tripped, pretty hard at times, I've never seen anything like Alice in Wonderland or seen major things that weren't there.
The biggest hallucination I had was staring at some South American guys curly black hair, which seemed to be moving & pulsating like an sea anemone, but that's just altered perception.
I think there's a lot of misconception about the nature of acid hallucinations & acid trips, it alters your senses of perception somewhat, but never like you would see in a film or on T.V.
Either that or I have a very strong mind which isn't very susceptible to major hallucinations & doesn't allow me to stray too far from reality. I am quite a logic thinker & level headed so that could be the case.

I can't say for certain that Lewis Carroll never touched a dot of anything stronger than wine, but it is my suggestion that his works are political and social satire wrapped up in a blameless guise of innocent fantasy and fancy. The caucus race for example seems pretty straightforward in it's criticism of meandering politics.

The Hookah (Caterpillar) is actually generally used for smoking tobacco. Take any children's story like Watership Down (Talking Rabbits), James and the Giant Peach (Talking Insects), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(?????), Where the Wild Things Are, The Gruffalo, Chorlton and the Wheelies; and they're all a little surreal.
I think this is similar to "The Magic Roundabout", where even though drug references can be made, the real story is that Serge Danot wrote it quite sensibly, but the English simply couldn't get all the French references.(And there's proof to that Jeffers :) )

I think you missed what I meant when I say acid trip. I wasn't talking about how this originated I was talking about how Alice could dream that.
Also I found this video that uses sounds and small clips from the movie to make a song. It's kinda messes with your head because Alice keeps singing "there is hell, follow it, to the devil"
The gentleman who wrote Alice in Wonderland was a reverend and a teacher, as well an amatuer photographer. The only harmful chemicals he was subjected to were that of of camerea's flash, which was standard in the day, and the pain killers of the day. Which by todays standards were yes, drugs, but back then that's how things worked. Lewis Carrol did not experiment with drugss, he never molested Alice Lidell, and he was not a pedophile. Being a teacher he practiced great theology on the advacncement and evolution of language, as showcased in Jabberwocky. He was not some nut or a drug addict. The Disney version is only Alice in Wonderland, right? The chess bits are in Through the Looking Glass, which is technically a seperate story. They cut out some of the crazier stuff in the Disney version, but I still think it's good. Even though Alice doesn't appear to be blonde in the illustrations from the original book.

Edit: Also, Lewis Carroll may have used the painkiller Laudanum from time to time to cure headaches, but there seems to be no evidence that he ever used/abused drugs. Chalk his works up to good ol' creativity, and a fascination with children's stories.
