Nothing says, "Something's wrong." Like getting them that game as a gift.

You my friend have an excellent sense of humor, that's hilarious.

On topic, I'd say talk to his friends and see what they're getting for him so you can make sure to rule all of those ideas out. Once you know what not to get him coming up with what to get him should be easier. Sorry that I can't provide any gift ideas, I don't know the guy so I can't give you any really worth while suggestions.

-Edit- OR you could give give him sex... A lot?

That would be my suggestion. You could invent a female variation on the "Dick in a Box" and make it "Box in a Box". But then you'd have to wear some kind of weird, square shaped underwear and that'd probably get in the way... so... just put a bow on it.

Or get 'em Mercenaries 2 if you already had that planned.

Okay, seriously, stop suggesting sex. She's already said no. Their intimate life is healthy and none of our business and your perpetuating the stereotype internet people are a munch of horney sex obsessed dingleberries. Congrats on scaring away the new person and spitting on a persons honest question with sophomoric humor- it was only funny the first 10 times someone suggested naked intimacy in some form would be the perfect gift.

Your might get him one of those Nerd T-Shirts from the various websites proffered, especially if you know his favorite game.

http://www.nerdyshirts.com/
http://www.jinx.com/
http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts/

Another neat trick would be to get a bunch of his freinds to show up at the IHOP on Friday to give their gifts, and have a big get together. Party at IHOP, woo, where the Breakfast links never stop.

Whats most important is you get him something that A. Makes him Chuckle, B. Shows him you think his hobbies are at the very least cute and you won't harass him for playing videogames, C. All of the Above. For a man to find a woman who at least finds humor and some enjoyment out of videogames is like digging up the holygrail out of your backyard. If you believe your absolutly horrid at cooking, you could ask his freinds what sort of food he likes and have it delivered or take him out to get it. Depending on where you live your local super megamart of choice may have a baked good sections where they will actually make and decorate cakes for you.

If all that fails you can get him a Nintendo DS and some fun puzzle games- this is much more pricy as a DS can run from 100 to 150 dollars but it's half as expensive as getting him a Wii, so, there you go.

In the end it's not the amount of money you spend, and indeed you don't necessarily even have to HAVE it by his birthday. Simply announce to him on his birthday you have a certain gift or several gifts on order and they will be here shortly for his enjoyment, believe me I hardly think he'll complain unless he's a dookus.

Forget the 360, go out, buy a SNES and get Super Mario World for it. Hours of fun.

Wow, I've been hanging out with a bunch of perverts... Although that's not to say I wouldn't be happy if I got that though.

Much better with getting my girlfriend gifts...but my advice is something simple. Breakfast in bed works for both sexes. Everyone loves food. Make him some heart shaped cookies. Since you don't have a lot of money to spend...maybe give something symbolic if he's that kind of guy.

And just to let you know...guys really don't care what you give them. My first girlfriend gave me a bottle of cherry coke for my birthday with a note attached, and I loved it (and her). I still have that bottle cap...

Why, thank you. (You did just compliment us, right?)

Hey Joe, I believe she said she had $5. Nobody wants to see a $5 strippergram. Similarly, if the sex is great now, why try something that might cause problems? Plenty of time for experimentation down the road when there's less chance of death by mortification.

Normally I'd say spend the day or evening doing something he likes to do but you don't, plus a card. (Specifically excluding an evening at Club Chubby's.) And if you're fairly new to each other, he may not yet have told you anything he likes that you don't. But I also just like the idea of a cake, perhaps with theme decorations, or cookies. And I like the "special day" thing, too.

Is he a bit of a nerd? If so, there may actually be some sort of action figure or other nerd paraphernalia that you can afford and he will love. Also, sometimes you can find funny tee shirts at Wally World or other such places, or you might find a value-priced CD or DVD to his taste with some effort. Finally, sometimes gag items from places such as Spencers' Gifts (or whatever your local equivalent) might be well received.

Maybe this isn't the right section of forums to post this? But I'm new, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Anyways, my boyfriends' birthday is coming up this Friday we've been together since about May and I am completely lost on what to get him. He likes almost every game out for the 360 as well as older games, he also likes those Fat-Free gummy candies that are shaped like a dinosauric fish...totally blanking on the name. But I'm too broke to buy him a game, and I don't want to buy him the only thing I know he likes for his b-day as he'll probably already get a bunch from friends....

Guys! Please help me if you have any advice, it's MUCHO appreciated! =[

Make something. Do you have any talents? I wrote and played a song for one of my ex boyfriend's birthdays. He said it was the best gift he'd ever received.

Does he drink coffee? Get him a coffee grinder. Freshly ground coffee and some good beans... you cannot go wrong with that.

It's really hard to tell without knowing what kind of person he is, as all the best gifts are either the personal ones that fit best for him, or the personal details between you and him that are best left unsaid.

Really, he'll like any gift you give him. As far as the sex-as-gift option goes, if that's really the neighborhood you want to browse, at least be creative with it. I mean, sending him a card with the panties you aren't wearing when he opens them is a neat gesture, but to really bring some meaning out of it, go with ideas like the coupon book.

One shared shower, if that's his sort of thing. A free back-rub, or a coupon for some free alone-time if he ever gets busy when you want to spend time with him. If you subscribe to the tao of "It's the thought that counts," then show you're being thoughtful. If he often has trouble keeping a hold of where he set his keys down, get him a key-hook. (Hell, make it yourself.) If he's a cat person, and has a lot of cats, buy one of his cats a brand new collar, possibly his favorite. If he's into gaming, see if you can get a spare case for the system in question, and make/have someone make a custom case mod.

But yeah, it's really a case-by-case basis. Just remember the few things:
- The gift most appreciated is the one that shows concern or thoughtfulness.
- The gift best shared is the gift given at the right time.
- The gift most enjoyed is the gift that lasts the longest.

Obviously, play it smart. That coupon book was a good idea, if you want to run with it. Just cater it to the things he complains about the most, or most often needs done.

And the cute stuff, honestly Susan, I'd ask you out just for that cake. =P

you are thinking of swedish fish. also i would suggest a good multiplayer game, like mercs 2 or something where multiplayer is a lot of fun. also www.thinkgeek.com has some absolutely terrific things for sale, and they are genuinely creatively geeky things

I can tell you what NOT to get him.

Handkerchiefs, Socks, Smellies.

One of my female friends once got me a notebook with an rainbow oil pattern on it. Still have it now. It's really the little things that make so much more of an impact.

If all else fails, ask his mum.

A night together under the stars, or a day together, gazing at the clouds... unless he'd rather have something else... then get something you can do together =P or just go to a game store and ask for the cheapest 360 game ... they usually have one of those in the wrapper so no stickers so it'll be your little "secret"... thats what i do for birthdays... no complaints yet

I liked the idea to do what he loves. Is there anything hes realy into at the moment? A game, a hobby or interest, etc. Just do a day of all the stuff he loves! The best thing you could do is take interest in his stuff, maybe try it yourself?

Anyway, why no just be cheap and give him sex or something of that nature.

Or, you know, The Orange Box.

Buy him beer.

EVERY man likes beer.

unless you're underage, then just get enough wrapping paper to fit you, a load of sellotape, and a bow.

I made my boyfriend a birthday cake one year (rectangular sheet cake), then iced it up to look like a level from Space Invaders, but the invaders were the logos for the PS2, the Dreamcast, the Xbox, and GameCube, and the cannon was the Atari logo. His birthdate was the score at the top. It wasn't perfect, but it got the point across, and he absolutely loved it.

Damn. That's awesome. Do you think they'd put that up on Oprah?

Admittedly it's slightly hypocratic for me to be insulting anyone for not taking the internets seriously. I just didn't want the poor girl to leave in disgust and never come back when there were some good idea's being put forth.

We have the first tentacles into her soul. Soon, she shall be one of us. One of us... one of us... one of us...

Being a member of the internet for a large portion of my life, just the mention of the word 'tentacle' instantly conjures sexually perverse imagery in my mind...

What hast thou done to me, Japan?!

I lol'd

ThinkGeek stuff is fun, but a bit expensive... Try to pool some money with his friends and get him something. Anything, my friends have given me a plush imp keyring and a drinking helmet for my B-day, along with new MP3 headphones to make up for my old ones some prick broke (though I usually use my PSP for music). Last year I got some WH Skaven miniatures and 2 bags of crisps. Another friend got me books (a paperback Poe collection and paperback Rolling Stones and U2 bios, it was a nice idea seeing I'm a music junkie).
My ex got me a music CD and a small plushie once. Following year she got me a DVD Player, but I felt bad while thinking of the price (although the player still rocks).
There are a lot of ideas, bake a cake, give him special Bday sexytime.

There are things that make a good voucher, apart from a funny card with "B-day gift voucher" on it (always buys some time, believe me) with a box of chocolate (try Kinder Surprise eggs :p). If you're broke, go for some chocolate and a card and save for a better present later, or go with the restaurant idea.

I'd love having a Pedobear shirt (for trolling purposes), you can get them at Wrong Tees.

You know, my birthday is coming up and I wonder if my girlfriend is doing this on some other forum. I doubt it. Anyway, I would feel kind of cheated if I got sex for my birthday since that's something that happens pretty regularly anyway.

Last year she bought me the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 1 and 2 DVDs. It was hilarious, though, because she showed it to me and then said "Okay, I'm too broke to give you this, so now we have to take it back to Best Buy. Can you drive me?" For some reason that was one of the better birthday presents I've ever gotten. I guess just the idea that she tried was enough.

So yeah, coming from a guy who has a birthday this month, don't worry about it. Do something special, but just let him know that you're short on cash. He probably already knows anyway.

Can't go wrong with Microsoft points. As others have pointed out, however, you don't have to spend a lot, or even anything at all, in order to do something meaningful, thoughtful, and appreciated.

Although I probably should have listed that he has a SNES, Wii, DS Lite, Xbox 360 and PS2. He's a gamer in the utmost sense of the word. He hung out at my old work 24/7, mainly for the games but sometimes to stare at me, and now works there. It's called GameCrazy ever heard of it?
Also, the t-shirt idea was great! I linked him to a random gamer shirt site on MSN (didn't want to link him to the ones posted above in case I get one from there and so does he) and he laughed at a couple of them, now I have sort of an idea of what he'd like...

And as far as taking an interest in his stuff? I play his CoD4 more than him, and he's addicted to it. We share most common things and never have any complaints against one another.

I think I might just make him the coupon book, get him drunk, and save up for a t-shirt for him that I'd walk into his room wearing... and nothing else. I'm sure he'd like that. =]

Once again, thanks everyone for coming together to help me it's soo appreciated. And you'll never scare me away! Yahtzee is here and I'd never leave him. <3

I've been thinking about this one for a while.

If you end up buying a game, pick up a box of cornflakes while you're out. Then take out some of the cereal and put the game inside. Then package it all back up, wrap it and give it to him.

Then, when he opens it up he'll probably be a little disappointed. Keep acting cheery and tell him to make you both some, and he'll get a nice suprise.

That's a very creative idea. I wish I could save up enough money to buy him some of the great games coming out in October then I could do this. =[
