Invader Ezri:
I play the piano and am currently attempting to teach myself to play the guitar. Apparently, I play the guitar upside down and backwards, and since I'd rather not adapt to a new playing style I have to teach myself. Its going well, so far.

You strum with your left hand right?
Your a lefty then.
I had the same problem when I tried to learn guitar, I didn't figure it out till Guitar Hero enlightened me on the whole "Lefty Flip" thing.
Almost all guitars are made for rightys.

I played the djembe and doumbek in drum circles many times. I attempted to take music lessons for guitar, piano, violin...nothing ever clicked. I guess I just need something easy to improvise with a low learning curve.

Ah the majesty of being self taught

If you want to play for any reason other then "pick it once a month and mess about" then get someone to teach you.. You pick up so many little mistakes..

At the very least look up some stuff on ultimate-guitar.com

That is one fantastic instrument, right there..... I've only ever tried playing an electric cello once, and it wasn't really all that good (people have yet to find out how to make electric cellos that are as high-quality as elecrtic violins)

Now, how old is your acoustic violin, within the 20th century, that is?

I don't actually know. I believe it was made pre-1940 however.

I play electric bass and guitar. I play a lot of metal and alt. rock, and I'm being taught jazz bass.

I can think of two popular guitarists who play like that. Albert King and Doyle Bramhall II.

I have to admit, Labyrinth's violin is drop dead gorgeous. And I feel for Ezri, I taught myself, and, being left-handed, learned it backwards from all other guitarists I know. Thank God for Hendrix, man.

Hopefully I'll be able to get my site up again so ppl will know im not shitting them about being good at sax.

Piano and Violin, although i dont actually own a violin anymore since i stopped learning yonks ago. As for equipment i use for a piano, a chair and a light are very useful. Also the peddles but they dont really count as seperate equipment

I play electric guitar (1986 Japanese Fender Strat - currently using a basic Marshall MG15DFX amp), acoustic guitar (I can't remember the make/model :o) and Cello. I also record stuff on a very basic set up using an SM-58 mic (probably the best 'all-round mic' there is).

Well, I'm currently doing a Higher Diploma in Guitar Performance, with a view to starting a degree in the same subject next year.

So, yeah, you could call me a musician.

I have a degree in clarinet performance (Bb, A, and Eb), and used to play the piano. I also minored in Composition, and had a second major in Audio production and recording

Where did you study? Peabody? Towson? Someplace else?

Gah! Sorry for the delay, I completely forgot I posted here. I just graduated from Peabody last May.

Aha- I knew it! (sort of). Is that Professor Falby still teaching theory at Peabody? I don't ask because I went to Peabody, it's just that I grew up in that community (and learned to play in that community) and I've heard some rich stories about some of the people there.

EDIT: Congrats, by the way- Peabody is a very fine conservatory to get a degree from!
