I was thinking about the show Futurama and I was wondering, "What will Earth be like in 1000 years?"

Think about it. In the past 1000 years, we have gone 180 degrees and changed the world for better and worse. So, I ask you:
If you were cryogenically frozen for a thousand years, what do you think Earth will be like (assuming people are still there)?

if we ignore the fact that cryogenics just doesn't work, I assume by then we'll have perfected either a real form of suspended animation or faster-than-light travel (possibly using wormholes) and will have turned our greed to the other worlds

I, for one, hope to God the world doesn't last that long.

My bad, I couldn't think of another term for it. I wanted to say suspended animation of some sort, but I got a case of word dislocation and cryogenics was the only term that came to mind.

That's not the point, though. What I'm asking is what people think the world will be like in 1000 years.

Well that's very strange, what's wrong with it surviving another thousand years?

well, anyone would probably get extremely ill because who knows what humans of the future have grown immunities to that we haven't yet.

AWWWWWWWWW...:-D

But seriously, I think we'll be in the middle of a mild-to moderate ice age; the middle will have gone up in flames from the concentrated amounts of hatred and violence in that region, and instead of "special effects" for movies, people will say "graphics."

Well, look at all the stuff we've messed up so far. Do you really want to see the result of another thousand years of fuck-ups?

Also, the world lasting another thousand years means my plan will have failed.

i think completely the opposite

i would gladly see human race colonizing space , developing technologies we have never dreamed of that can change the shape of the universe, discovering the nature of all things, discovering other dimensions etc.

also i bet warcraft 27 would be fuckin awsome :)

Umm, not really my problem. I'll be long dead by then, so it doesn't affect me much.

And in 1000 years, someone's going to feel an urge to press the big red button, and everyone's doomed if he/she succumbs.

we will probably be immortal in some way or another there are scientists currently working on how to make cyborgs with robotic bodies that live forever but human brains that control them. that said, that will probably make sex impossible.

Considering how far we've come since 1000 years ago, and considering that the vast majority of that development has taken place in the last 2-300 years, I would say that there is likely absolutely no way that we can even conceive of what the universe will be like in 1000 years. Anything that I come up with, I reconsider and realize that it will probably be sooner than that.

Well let's just say that if the planet can still support life I will have failed in my lifelong ambition.

So I'm going to go with barren lavaball of doom and suffering.

I don't know, Nostradamus and the Mayans seem to have done well. At least, according to the Discovery Channel

Hovercars, Vulcans and Klingons (ahem).. Sex will no longer be physical but some kind of mental sensation. Everyone will speak Swahili and can use teleporters to reach any place in a second.

And jetpacks. That work on sand.

Well 1000 yrs ago, all we had was iron, stone, wood and earth. We then used combinations of these to kill each other. There weren't even simple devices (the wheel barrow had not been invented) and significant parts of the world were no more advanced then they were 1000 years before due to various collapses and dark ages.

This seems to be a pattern throughout history. Powerful culture rises and spreads peace, cheerios and mathematics throughout the world only to collapse and regress the world back a handfull of centuries.

As it is we are overdue for a dark age so I think in 1000 years time the world won't be that different from what it will be in 200 years time.

So I'm thinking bases on the moon and mars, hyper efficient computer thingy mababobies pretty much doing away with governments, an industry that captures asteroids for materials, people genetically engineered in the womb to be healthier, stornger smarter and more resistant than we are now.

But what I want to see is super-kick-ass-cheerios, shiny suits of power armour, some sort of funky full immersion gaming system, a computer in my brain, evil space goblins and some way for me to own an army comprised of jessica alba clones whose only aim in life is to wrestle in jelly and make me bacon sandwiches.

Oh and A SECOND SERIES OF FIREFLY!!!

Solar, but not interstellar travel. Genetic enhancements, cloning, intellectual property battles over modified "cloned" humans. Terrestrial colonial independence conflicts and digital nation conflicts. Digital being suffrage debates.

Good news: Turns out there's life on another rock in the solar system!
Bad news: It has all the sentience of a jellyfish.

I reckons in 1000 years will be somewhere similar to where humanity was a 1000 years ago. come on the dark ages :)

Well i reckon that some of us that are alive now will still be alive then (look ip aubrey de grey's lecture). Colonization with terraforming of mars probable, large scale asteroid mining probable. Massive space stations widespread in the solar system (a necessity looking at population growth) We'll probably have sent a few probes to the nearest stars also.

Unless, of course, we don't die out before

Hehe, well if the world ended it would give them an excuse around something like "Oh, the game was ready n' everything. Its just because the world is going to end, we can't publish it in time."

Humans would laugh at our archaic understanding of physics, and Relativity would be nothing more than the disproven rantings of a crazy scientist.

We'll be shorter, there will be no blonde haired/red haired/blue eyed/green eyed people, Everything will either be Archaic as everyone eventually snapped and started a galactic civil war or everything will be pretty much the same.

Everyone will be either hugely intelligent or legally retarded.
