I dont know how many people out there watch it, but for those who care, but Dattebayo has decided to stop doing fansubs for the series. I for one am sad about this because shippuden is getting real good, and I dont live in japan and dont know a lick of japanese. Their reason for getting rid of it is that people put it all over the internet, and it draws attention to Dattebayo. So I would like to ask a question. Would you be mad if something you put up for public display was then put on to other websites by other people?

As far as I know it's less that it's getting put up by other people and more that the people who make Naruto Shippuden are noticing them. Anime producers, generally, frown upon fansubs as a method of distribution as in their opinion it reduces chance that the DVDs will get bought when they finally bring them out in places outside Japan (nothing to do with their extortionate price, crappy quality of subs, lack of stock and poor distribution or anything, GOD no.)

They see fansubs as piracy, and I suppose that's what it is to an extent. The fact that Dattebayo was the primary fansub for a popular show like Shippuden could make one think that they might have finally garnered some less than favourable legal attention from the Naruto makers.

But that's just speculation really. ;D

aren't Dattebayo infamous for trolling there members?

fansubs aren't really legal in the first place, so its understandable they wanted to keep a low profile. I remember that they told people several times to stop uploading to video sharing sites like youtube, stage6, veoh and others, but those requests fell on deaf ears, and the video sharing sites attract unwanted attention from legal departments.

People are just stupid. Its like a crack buyer shouting out at regular intervals who and where his dealer is. Nobody wants that, and nobody wants cease and desist letters from japan either.

If they didnt want any attention then why do fansubs in the first place, and why was it out there for public download?

Because they like to share? There's a difference between putting it up for public download and having it splayed across sites like YouTube. Minor distribution of fansubs isn't really important, but if it was widespread, you can guarantee the legal team for the Naruto guys would be greasing up their palms for a good ol' C and D letter.

Cast another suspicion vote for me as well. This sounds to me to be another one of their practical jokes.

This is a show that caused me to absolutely hate everything related to anime/manga, possibly unjustly. In other words: good riddance.

OK, let's all realize that fanhsubs are a form of piracy. They are illegal in the U.S. and Japan. Because of the fact that it has built a demographic that is willing to spend stupid amounts of money on a four episode cartoon DVD it is uncomfortably tolerated.

DB broke the golden rule, Naruto was picked up by a localization company and they kept subbing. The attention they are getting is legal in nature, and I am pretty sure that is the kind of attention they do not want and were not in it for.

Besides, Naruto has been all kinds of suck for years now, Shippuden never recovered from the three years of "filler" the original Naruto left us with and the new canon stories are weak. The potential that was established in the early series has been all but totally pissed away at this point.

Like anybody has taken that seriously since the dawn of torrents.

Should had edited my thoughts on this. I meant, I didn't like the voice acting.

EDIT: I didn't like their work. It's like saying: I didn't like an article, a review, a video, etc.

In NO means, it was meant as a racist statement.

Note* This was a reply of another post. The previous post got edited and I would like to apologize for any misunderstandement.

It's the internet. It happens.

EDIT: Personally, I prefer subtitles, anyway.

If it was original content then I'd be well pissed off. If it was something like subbing I'd probably be glad more people could access it.

Either way, the only reason I still watch Naruto is that I hold out for them letting Sakura take part. Ever since she beat the crap out of that sound ninja <3. Like she's all heroic, accepts a barrage of kunai so she can attack this guy from above, then what does she do? Bite his arm. She could stab him in the gut but no, she bites his arm. Still makes me laugh.

Although the practice of fansubbing is tolerated (and they were subbing episodes that were not yet available in the US) the sheer size of Dattebayo's userbase put a big bulls-eye on them when it came to legal action against them. One way to minimize the risk was to keep their videos off of YouTube and Veoh, but the fans would not respect their requests not to do so.

Dattebayo was also trying to parlay their subbing experience into a legitimate business operation for companies that, for whatever reasons, needed their work subbed. Given Dattebayo's production speed and quality control, I wish them success, even if I do consider them to be trolling little shitheads in their non-professional capacity.

Finally, if the opening notes were any indicator, the translators were getting heartily sick of subbing the show. I suspect they were glad of a reason to dump it. If indeed they did. As someone else noted, they have done this a dozen times that I know of and then resumed subbing after enjoying the lulz.

It's back now. Apparently there was a computer problem and they were down for 16 hours.

Ok I understand some people aren't going to like Naruto but this thread really isn't supposed to be about the show just the poll itself. I love how people take a simple question and turned it into some other stuff. I thank all the minds who actually got why I started this thread.

Indeed they troll on a regular basis. A good tactic is to have 2 naruto/bleach news sites and check them both. 90% of the time its because a show is on a scheduled break or hasnt aired in japan for some reason. They wont ever drop naruto or bleach because their fan base would evaporate if they did. that's all they pretty much sub seriously.

true that, but have you ever talked to the anime fan nutters? They are so full of the self righteousness because of their silly unwritten rules. It frustrates me to no end, you can't have a serious conversation with any of the lot about these things because fact is responded to with merry make-believe. Apparently Japanese adults love their anime and kinky sex to the exclusion of all else, and cosplay is a way of life and reading subtitles doesn't distract from the actual watching of the program because it teaches anime....

God it makes the head spin. One time I'd just like to hear "I know that, not really important to me". Oh, how much more serious would they be taken by me.
