I don't mean to upset anyone here, but in my opinion they should remake the old SW movies.
/agree? /disagree?

Well, if you mean re-shoot them from the ground up with new actors and CGI, I would have to disagree. They did release updated versions of the movies a few years ago, and even that turned out pretty poor. If they remade them totally now, I would expect them to resemble the mayhem that is the new trilogy, and I really don't want to relive that.

i think they could use a tweaking again but tbh it'd only make the rabid fans demand they release the shitty original versions again so i dont see it happening any time soon.

plus we cant trust lucas enough to be sure he wouldnt make them into a huge muppetfest

nearly every film that is remade never ends up as good ad the original (look at Planet of the Apes, The Grudge, The Ring) so if they remade the old star wars films they would also go the same way. maybe digitally re-master them to make the special effects more realistic but no more than that.

Eh.. No.

As if Lucas needs to get more money from the series.

Why is there no "definitely not, they're craptastic" option?

You kinda like they already did? Twice?

I think they should wipe the three new films from the universe and re-shoot them. considering the old films were actually good I think they should be let be.

Naah..

Lucas has already pissed off enough rabid Star Wars fans..

They should let them be as they are. I usually find it a bad idea to remake something that was good in the beginning. I also do not understand why Hollywood always has to remake films from outside the US that they liked, these films also always end up (a lot) worse than the originals.

Simply, NO!

He's already gone back and raped the hell out of the originals several times. IMO: they shouldn't have had as much time devoted to them as they have already but that's my issue.

OP: Why do you need them remaking? Could you not make out that the Death Star blows up at the end? What makes it so unwatchable?..............apart from the fact that Harrison Ford is the only one who can act in them.

Lucas should be backed into a corner, not allowed to touch his Star Wars stuff and see if he can produce something ORIGINAL, not giving him permission to sell the same crap to us over and over again.

They've meddled with them enough. It's bad enough Lucas lost the original prints (FFS) and had to use the laser disc versions for the dvds.

I believe the appropriate phrase is: "Do not want!"

Couldn't they make something new instead? You know as in, something that wasn't made before?
I guess thats just my opinion on a lot of remakes.

After George Lucas makes some new Star Wars movies, obviously he's going to go back and do remakes of all of them.

no... no... no... no way in hell.... the special editions were bad enough but remaking them completely would just be the final straw

Heavily disagree. They would just be a CGI orgy fest of mindbogglingly shit proportions.

Only if the movies were by catoon graphic and the director was the one who made the clone wars, this mini-series was awesome in every way!

Id think that if Geogre lucas did reshoot them, every starwars fanboi/lover etc. in the world would be after his balls for their mantle piece.

Han shot first!

I also think somebody should re-write Lord of the rings because I did not like the ending-DaVincis Mona Lisa could also be redone with brighter colors and somebody should definetely put more electro guitars into Elvis' songs :)

So the only thing that'd change is testicular location? (mouth -> mantle piece) :P

But seriously, I can imagine mass burnings. All Star Wars nuts meeting in their capital with huge heaps of SW merch and burning the lot, parody style :D

NO! NO! DEAR GOD NO! If we remake them, our children will think they are the originals and assume that all episodes of Star Wars suck...please leave us our last remaining salvage.

No, no, no, forever No.

It's bad enough Lucas ruined...well...everything else SW related... I think we all established by now the first trilogy was some sort of epic fluke...maybe the planets aligned and the effect remained for 9 years or something... But ever since, everything George Lucas touches tends to turn to shit... Like the inverse Midas touch.

NO!

I have nothing against I, II and III, they are all pretty good and enjoyable (except II, that one is bordering on bad :-/) but let's face facts, they are not near as good as the original. Remaking them would end up with worse movies than the original. Also the actors are so tied to their specific roles that changing actors would be the same as changing character. Besides they are not so aged that they need remaking, recently watched all six of them, and it all melted together pretty well, only scenes were you'd notice a real difference were the ones with Yoda and in Jabba's palace.

I voted "Other", because unlike many other I do not mind the pimped up 1997 and 2005 versions, that is actually okay if you ask me.

Ok what if someone other than lucaus arts (because you all seem to hate him) made the movies like someone good. and don't get focused on WHOS MAKING THEM just if they need to be remade.

No remakes. No matter who would do it. The originals are good as they are (the original versions, not the special edition)

Why the hell would you remake them? remaking stuff is the direct opposite to creativity and entertainment. Hell, I'd even go so far as to say that it's borderline altering history to better suit your own tastes, in this case.

You might as well ask for a remake of War & Peace, The Divine Comedy or Citizen Kane. It's just senseless dilution of history & culture.

Hmmm. This is a difficult question.....I voted 'Other', because normally I'd have to say 'NO WAI' to any remaking of the original trilogy, but on the other hand, I'd be open to the idea if Lucas had help and the remakes turned out to be good.

Or do something worse, like having Greedo shooting first or having Han walk over Jabbas Tail and Jabba acting like it was nothing...oh wait....

They've already been tweaked a lot. New CGI implemented, new scenes here and there. I do not see how remakes would benefit the series, especially since everyone has already seen the films multiple times and possibly has bough multiple copies of the series over the years. VHS/DVD eventually there will probably be a blu-ray edition.

Why remake when the series still sells by the bucketload?

the digital tweaks they made to the originals were pretty good, not sure what you're talking about, i mean Han and Chewie running from 5 storm troopers in the original, come on. in the updated version they run from a whole unit

and at the end of the first one when they go to attack the death star with like 20 x-wings and such and then in the updated versions go with 100+ x-wings

sorry to say but they updated versions were way better and actually closer to the story that Lucas wrote

Not just no, but the films should be reverted back to their original glory. The Special Editions were enough of an insult without making the Originals unavailable.

Whilst Cleverly does have some good points, the mishandling of key elements damaged the story.
