Honestly, I've never gotten into forums quite as much as I would've liked. Currently, I'm an English major and I figure a message board is a great outlet for me to talk about games and whatnot and still get to write for enjoyment. My question is this: why do you enjoy posting on the Escapist forums?
My reasoning might be silly, but the emphasis on grammar touched the grammar Nazi in me so that was probably one of the biggest pulls. That and from most of the posts I've seen on other forums, this strikes me as the most intelligent crowd.
I used to enjoy posting here for the intelligent conversation... unfortunately, the quality of new members seems to be declining. Or maybe it's just that I've seen just about every topic posted and reposted to death.
I was on two other forums when i joined here, it quickly killed the other two (i no longer visit them) for its excellent features and reasonable users.
Also, i foresaw badges in the wind and decided to pre-empt their arrival.
Actual people talking back. Not just those things that swear constantly, can't spell and have nothing to bring to the table conversation and argument wise.
EDIT: Fixed the spelling errors that almost destroyed the internet.
I love the Escapist, the conversations are intelligent, the people are nice and genuinely helpful and have interesting things to say.

Agreed. More than half of the recent recruits can't be bothered to spell words right and use lolspeak instead. Many of them seem to be subtly(or otherwise) trolling our forums and staying under the radar

Before coming here I posted on GameFAQs for a reasonably long time. I stumbled across The Escapist after seeing quite a few people on GameFAQs mention Yahtzee. So I checked it out and after watching a few videos I noticed the "What's New" box on the page and some of the topics seemed interesting so I checked them out.
I was impressed by the literacy of most of the members and the intelligence and maturity they all seemed to display and I joined. Have since stopped posting on GameFAQs.

replace "faqs" with "trailers" and pretty much my story (Every other thread was a flame war)

Ironyyyyyyy
This would be an example of someone not bringing anything to the table.

I gotta say, I love the people here. I go to the Halo 3 forums on bungie.net basiacally to troll now. I may start an argument for the sake of arguing, especially if they are way wrong. I decided to come here for intelligent conversation and some funny topics. I love the customer is always wrong thread.

Chill. It was a joke.
No, you chill!!!
Just letting myself be an example of what you might find on other threads. Minus the collection of letter that look like this, "OMG" "WTF" "liek" "n00b" and so on, oh and minus the personal insults.

Funny, that's almost my story to the letter. The exception is that GameFAQS is better for individual games, so I still go there for that, but this is my primary forum. Thank god for yahtzee, not because he's funny (in fact, he's in decline now), but because he got my attention so I found this site. I like to think I'm better than the other "New Yahtzee Recruits" (Oh, that's actually good. Hm... NYR, we could use that) :)

I came for Yahtzee but i stayed for the forums. I looked at the titles thought these sound interesting, I got a nice shock with the type of language used and people on here, then came the best shock of all idiots being banned for being idiots and so I joined.
But in all seriousness, I like it here because the members can talk without freaking out, breaking the English language, and can talk about things that aren't videogames.
I used to enjoy it before the new member floods came and the percent of The Escapist that used "lol" (when used like so:"Tahts kool lol") was around 10-20% now its about half but its still better than elsewhere.
Awesome threads intelligent people and above all else ZERO PUNCTUATION BIATCH!!
I am truly amazed that this forum is not over saturated with sheer stupidity and that is why I love it.
As a New Member I can only hope that I exceed all of you veteran's low expectations, and I believe anyone seriously using the phrase "lol" should be gassed, or shot, or stabbed.
I was drawn in by Zero Punctuation (like many of us) and was bored enough one day to join up. I'm staying because the populace of this forum is unlike that of any I've ever seen (ie. for the most part tolerant, literate and fairly intelligent).
I'm still in awe over the fact that this forum only needs 2 moderators to maintain the peace. The last one I went to had at least 20 from across the world (meaning that there'd be at least one online at any given moment... most of the time) and they still couldn't prevent it slipping into madness.
I too found this site through zero punctuation, and Unforgotten Realms as well, which a friend showed me, as well as the chronicles of blood ninja, but that stuff is far far too vulgar for me to talk about here. I too noticed an interesting thread title, and decided to join in. I also am on the CBSsportsline message boards, (BIGTIME broncos fan!)
