My opinion on this matter is yes. Bob Dylan is an amazing song writer, he is a really good guitarist, he can't sing worth a damn but anybody whos heard a Dylan song would agree that if anybody else sang it it wouldn't be as good. So there's my opinion what's yours.

It's the other way around for me. I like listening to him, but his writing sucks. Just my opinion though

I've never been big on his voice at all, nor his writing in a lot of cases. However, I absolutely love 'Nashville Skyline' , and I've worn out my 'John Wesley Harding' cassette. Country Pie cracks me up every time.

Not the best ever, but I voted yes because I couldn't think of anyone better.

I'm going to sound like a troll here, but Bob Dylan has to be the most overrated douchebag in the history of music.

I don't know. I like his voice, I like his work, but I tend to like Van the Man better.

That said, my true musical passion is a different genre altogether. So 'no', I guess. Doesn't mean I don't like the man's music.

...Who?

Not my bag. he's very, very good. but i prefer something different to him.

and not R&B

No he is not, if he was the greatest, wouldn't everybody know about him and refer to him as the greatest?

Bob Dylan is kinda boring. He did write the best song in the world but it had to be played by Jimi Hendrix to be much more than just good.
Which leads me to my second point, the greatest artist in hitory of music is that guy

Forgetting that popular opinion=/=truth, the nearest you can get to "everybody" in real life actually do know who he is, or at least would hear bells ringing when they hear his name. In the realm of popular opinion he's high enough that the air is getting mighty thin, and there aren't too many other contenders.

However, you never said 'musician,' you only said 'artist'. So I would have to say this:

Picasso > Dylan

Probably not considering the whole subjective thing that is our lives. The whole "liking different things" pretty much guarantees that there will never be a Greatest Artist Ever in anything but a misplaced title by some crappy awards show. Sure, people might like Bob Dylan and think he's the greatest now, but in 50 years everyone might think his music is a pile of wank, in which case he's not really the best ever now, is he?

I think putting a != where that > is would be more appropriate.

He does some really great songs like a lot of people but he also does a lot of boring songs, even you said he can't sing well.

Fact: The greatest never has and never will exist.

Yeah but Amnestic, everyone thought he was the shit fifty years ago, too.

But yeah, it is totally subjective, of course. He would still probably get my vote, though, if there was a vote.

And Dylan > Picasso http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srgi2DkDbPU

...Who?

I concur.

I can see why some folk like him, more so than the Beatles (imo), but I wouldn't say greatest ever. Maybe your favourite artist ever, but not everyone's.

.....yeah, no

Not into that kind of music. I also think it's very narrow minded to call him the greatest artist "evarr!", since he's singing in english and playing a particular style of music. You need to modify your statement.

He is pretty cool but im not that into political music

So no

I put "Yes". He may not be the greatest ever, but his songs are amazing. The lyrics are very poetical and I care for lyrics ALLOT. Plus I use the "tunes" of his songs to make comedy songs for school assignments.

Translation: I voted yes but my post says no.

I see your Bob Dylan, and I raise you a Martin Walkyier and all of Iron Maiden. Checkmate. Bingo!

<---------

The man almost founded postmodernism by himself.

He blows. Hard.

**shudder** - Did someone mention Iron Maiden?

Someone must have because my eczema has begun to kick up a fuss now.

Only joking, I don't really have eczema, just like Maiden don't really have more than 4 riffs :P

Copter400: Tried to find an online copy of the photo I have with little Martin Walkyier - but no success, sorry.

That honor belongs to Pete Townshend and only Pete Townshend.

Dylan is a little dull for my tastes. As far as I'm concerned the greatest artist(assuming you mean singer/songwriter by that) of recent times is David Bowie.

His lyrics aren't great. At least Noel Gallagher admits he uses a rhyming dictionary.
I find him dreadfully over-rated.
