Ok, so i've noticed a small trend recently, and it's not just here but on other forums i have frequented from time to time. This isn't a reaction to the recent judaism thread, but rather a reaction to all the why the hate, or to be more general any thread that discusses a hate towards another party. I may only be twenty years old, but I've grown to know that not everyone everywhere will ever be happy with everyone or thing, and there will ALWAYS be a hate of some sort... It's human really. So I've come to accept that, embrace that even and move on.

And yet recently it's all people want to discuss and dissect...My question is why? Why sit here and question what is an unescapable fact of life, that people are going to hate something one way or another... Further still, why do people either try to justify their views (or even their hate on the less than loaded topics). Opinions, in my opinion don't need to be justified entirely because they are, well, opinions!...

Anyway, discuss this current trend... or discuss how utterly pointless this thread is or isn't

Why people choose to hate or relate, I really can't say. But the open forum can allow me to discuss the finer points of opposing arguments, which is necessary in most enlightened societies.

We can also use this thread to serve up possible new topics:

Fill in the blank...I'll go first.

"Why all the hate on (insert here)?"

Why all the hate on gas station cappucinos?

If I hate this thread could someone else make a:

Why all the Hate on the "Why all the 'Why all the Hate on blankety blank' threads" thread?

Or would that just be stupid?

I was thinking of making a thread. "Why all the hate on the Why All the Hate on ____ threads."

Edit: Ha, we posted almost the same thing. You were just a minute quicker.

It is a good topic for us to discuss the most Human of human emotions.

These topics are like the candy bar of forum topics. They're easy to think of, everyone has a preference, and there's a great variety to choose from. They give us 20+ pages of interesting discussion that generally goes off-topic fast but it's fun to watch what happens, basically a boxing ring on a sensitive topic.

I would agree with this if only people could keep debating ideas instead of arguing and calling each other names. This is often what happens when such things as the subject of hate come up.

I'm really more confused about the trend of "Math Threads".

Because people like badges. Controversy threads are easy to milk and plentiful in reusability.

I bet i can start one with 30 seconds thought: 'Can only white people 'be racist'?'... That took 1 minute, and its not a 'why all the hate.." thread, but controversy is easy to start and practically free to fuel.

Mention black humor (the pigmentation of the comedian) in the opening post and your set for 60 pages. Its really that easy.

Please, don't start an argument or topic on that subject, it is not my opinion and it was for example only.

No, I see where you're going with this... It's like the escapist has it's very own set of achievements, sans the gamerscore...

WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE IT'S JUST A LITTLE BOX WITH A GRAPHIC! I can bloody make 'em in my damn sleep.

Anyhow, yes... It's easy to milk the human intellect dry with these type of topics... Mind numbing

The Next day...:
"The 'Why all the hate on Hitler?' thread"

[/facepalm]

Apologies for the terrible sense of humor; however, I did warn you before hand.

On another note entirely, if someone does put up a "Why all the hate on Hitler?" thread, I will drop-kick them. I am not joking at all.

I think it's because people always hate things, and people always hate people that hate things, etc... People like to hate, and when it devolves from an intelligent discussion into plain hate, it never stops.

As everyone has said already; controversial topics get views/posts. It's the ultimate way for a badge whore to get some.

Besides starting an original forum game.

Strange, I too have noticed a recent spate of "controversial" topics... It is getting a touch on my nerves.

And, of course, there are the badge whores to consider...

Well, I can't remember. Too long ago. I might be getting mixed up, but I can still remember it. Ah, it brings a tear to my eye. Oh wait, I just banged my knee.

Yeah, pretty much what he said. Badges are the achievements of the escapist forums. People want a good reputation and its an easy way to earn it.

I couldn't really say what the reason behind the trend is; I haven't once viewed either of the threads. Their general course was mapped out by the thread title. That's not very interesting.

They are better than the all the math problems that keep coming up but aren't as good as some of the more thought provoking threads I've seen.

I don't think the creators made these threads for the badges alone. I think they just want a thread of theirs to become popular. Everyone wants their threads to be something special, some people make the thread special themselves, some just let others argue all day.

The hate threads are based around an argument, nothing interesting.

First of all...Godwin's Law. Calling you on it.

Secondly, some of these threads have some actual funny content.

Cos' we plays them and hates them. The more you involve yourself in any hobby the more you'll start to realize your hobby hates you. ANY hobby. I've had this discussion with comic book readers, gamers, table-top gamers, trading card gamers, movie buffs, art afficionado's. The only thing I haven't seen have this effect so far is origami. And Sumo.

DrStrangeLove:
Here here.

Lastly I was massively surprised no-one has made this joke yet:
So, why all the hate on the why all the hate threads?

After putting down that sentence I was instantly reminded of the follwing:
you have to be happy with what you have to be happy with
you have to be happy with what you have
to be happy with what you have to be happy with you have to be happy with what you have
to be happy with you have to be happy with what you have to be happy with you have to be happy with what you haaaaaaave

well, the christianity thread was the original- and therefore the best, dn the rest were knock-offs.

In response to the OP: I started the 'Why all the hate on Christianity?' thread, and I did it because I was genuinely curious.

In regards to the Badge whore comments: I don't care about badges enough to start a huge 'lock now' thread battle. That's stupid. Badges are like achievements on my 360. If I get one, I say 'Oh, neat' and keep going. I don't go out of my way.

Also, I had NO IDEA that thread would go on for as long as it has (29 pages, last time I checked). The response has been overwhelming. Not my intention, but cool nonetheless. Especially since it was the first (And so far, only) thread I started.
