Without meaning to take anything from all the other great, or even amazing, animes I've ever watched Cowboy Bebop and Death Note are just above all that. Everything about them is ingeniously written, beautifully delivered and meticulously conceived down to the minor details. |

Dragon ball Z and GT!!!! hahahaha! so not! they are the ghey*! *on that subject, the movie "Fake" is meant to be a good "gay" amine. never watched it myself though, anyone that has, is it funny? |

anything by the sub team "GG" is fantastic, despite a few typos. but it is done in less than 24 hrs. that said many people i know do not like amine, but the only stuff they have seen is dodgy stuff like pokemon and DBZ. amine has a deeper storyline, unlike western comics which are almost always generic, tired gags and cheap flash animations. amine also tackles more serious subjects and has a storyline over (usually) more than one or two episodes, they are not made for ADHD kids on a steady diet of red cordial and Ritalin. |

Check out the episode with Black Getter's premiere. Mazinkaiser The best Non-HAX mecha EVER. It remakes the original Mazinger Z anime, the very FIRST mecha anime. Oh yeah, also King of Braves GaoGaiGar. I prefer Mazinkaiser, but its good if you really need to get Evangelion out of your head. By the way, look up Super Robot Wars. (Video games, not anime) |

That is one of the reasons that I like Death Note. I go for the God-complex guy. But the Everything for justice guy is still cooler |

As far as I'm concerned, retaining the honorifics (-kun, -san, -chan, etc.) would be enough. |

As far as I can tell, that's just plain laziness when they can't be bothered to choose a contextually appropriate translation. The word "nakama" is the most common offender. Sure, there might be some applications where you really need to use it (there is no direct English translation of the concept, though various authors have made up their own silly words with the same meaning), but most of the time it's actually closer to one or other of it's myriad conceptial connotations than any other. |

That would have to be the original Ghost in the Shell movie. It's as deep as it could get. The movie does have some awesome scenes, but the underlying themes are, well, underlying and might need more than one watch to digest all of it (much like Akira). |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3153 Joined: 10 Nov 2007 | The Ghost in the Shell movie is otherwise known as a bunch of pretentious waffling tripe. The comic and the series both handled the themes of humanity and identity far better. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1976 Joined: 7 Sep 2008 | I've only watched the original movie, and both Stand Alone Complexes. So I don't have much of a frame of reference since I haven't read any of the manga. Is Man-Machine interface any good? |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 3153 Joined: 10 Nov 2007 | Yes, but it's very different to the first comic in terms of character, and nothing like any of the movies, and it's one of Shirow's greatest feats of obscurism and complete refusal to explain anything that's going on. The interstitial book (Ghost in the Shell 1.5, a set of shorts set in between the two comics) is far more clearly plotted. |

Just did a serch on it and i think thats the one. I think its was shown coz it was related to the matrix as inspiration for the Wachowski brothers. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1976 Joined: 7 Sep 2008 | OK, so I'm gonna go on a major Ghost in the Shell binge some time (Academics and student duties come first =)). To watch: To Read: I think it would be better for me to skip out on the first movie and Innocence. Amnestic, how do you do that line across text thing? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1120 Joined: 17 Oct 2008 | Soul eater. Great show. They have a HERMAPHRODITE EMO!!!! Ok, not hermaphrodite but the fanbase still doesn't what gender this emo is. And the anime creator and the person who made the manga do this on purpose instead of the creators of final fantasy. how many shows have that? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1016 Joined: 21 May 2008 | I tried watching Soul Eater, and though some of the ideas behind it were good, the main girl's voice was just horrible. That and Black Star.. Yes, we get it, Naruto is annoying, you wanted to parody him. Was it really necessary to waste an entire main character on that? Let's see, stuff the OP might appreciate... Stuff I'd like to throw in just because I like them: |

Maka's voice actor is new. And besides that she's not really bad. The voice fits the character. Although the voice is particularly annoying in Eppisode one and it doesn't come out right when she says black star. I hate black star with a flying passion to, and so does a good amount of the fandom but his fights are interesting, and he's better than Naruto. Naruto says he's a ninja but wears ORANGE, Orange is the most retarded color a ninja can wear, he's not silent, and the fights are over the top. Black Star is a hell of a lot closer to an assassin than Naruto is to a ninja so black star>Naruto. |

Okay, now this is something I really don't get. Some dubs are good (Rurouni Kenshin) , and some aren't (Love Hina). Dubs seem to have been getting better and better lately (with some exceptions), and I've found that, in rare cases, the English dub suits a particular character better than the original Japanese. I think it really depends on the anime itself. I prefer the English dub for, say...Rurouni Kenshin and Bleach, but the Japanese with English subtitles is infinitely better for Love Hina and Escaflowne. |

Rather than perpetuate the expansion of this (soon-to-be) bloated thread with my own list of favourites, I'd prefer to agree with the past posters and say that Cowboy Bebop is probably one of the most beautifully written and well-executed anime series to date. Regardless of your genre preferences, it's well worth the watch and won't take you long to get through them all. Music is also great throughout the series as is both Japanese and English (surprisingly) voice acting.
