Infamous Scribbler Posts: 668 Joined: 16 May 2008 | I know that it was a live album but 'The Wacken Carnage' by Bloodbath is probably my favourite from the year. A high quality version of the show and the dvd footage of the gig. In addition it has all of the lyrics from the songs, which I have never seen before in a live cd/dvd. I have the other albums, but its nice to have them all there as opposed to having to hastily flip through three books. |

It's not out yet... (Sorry for double post, it caught my eye and I forgot to edit previous post) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2538 Joined: 29 Mar 2008 | This has not been a brilliant year for music, but there have been a few shining gems: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Dig Lazerus Dig! Thats about it |
Press Junketeer Posts: 430 Joined: 14 Jun 2008 | Steve E. Nix And The Cute Lepers, "Can't Stand Modern Music". Just an all around great album for punk rock fans. They channel everybody from The Stooges to The NY Dolls, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, and The Buzzcocks. In other words, right up my alley. And I'll give it up for The Ting Tings. They make good stuff. |

How could I forget that?!?!?! Brilliant album. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 429 Joined: 26 Sep 2008 | Disturbed's "Indestructable" Yes, yes disturbed have "sold out" and the songs on this albumn sound very similar it doesn't mean I'm not going to like them anymore and for anyone interested they are melodic metal with singing and no screaming. Pendulum's "In Silico" I'm not really sure how to class Pendulum anymore they used to be pure drum and base but this new album is a little different they are trying to be more acessable to a wider audience (cue all the hardcore d'n'b fanboys saying they've sold out and its shit). I'm loving "propane nightmares" and "granite" both songs are worth looking up even if you don't really like d'n'b music purely because they arn't really d'n'b anymore-am I still making sense? Good check those two out. |

Hardcore DnB fanboy coming through! Don't worry, I won't go off on a rant. But I wouldn't class Pendulum as DnB anymore, I wouldn't say they'd sold out either they just happen to have tried something a bit different which I must say works, they've got some damn catchy tunes. What really annoys me though is the waves of scene kids claiming to be "into" DnB because they like Pendulum, then staring blankly at me when I ask them what other artists in the genre they like. |

I'm with you here but then scene kids annoy me fullstop I like a wide range of music (from vivaldi(sp? the composer) to wham to disturbed to infected mushrooms) and it annoys me ever so slightly when people claim to like popular bands/genres and then can't name any of their songs. |
Muckraker Posts: 227 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | Best Albums to come out this year... Coheed and Cambria - Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow (Just rockin') In Flames - A Sense of Purpose (Heavy Metal) Rise Against - Appeal to Reason (Punk... Feels horrible to put it in that genre because its actually good and Punk tends to suck. But seriously, its a good fucking album) I am still trying to give Funeral for a Friend's new album a chance but so far, it ain't looking good. It's better than Tales Don't Tell Themselves but that isn't really saying much. This year has been a disapointment for me. Lots of good bands brining out new records and very few of them have come up to standard. Even In Flames' new album isn't quite as good as their previous. It's still amazing... just not as good. |

That annoys the hell out of me, mainly because whenever one of these people try to talk to me about a genre I name a relatively popular artist as a starting point for a discussion then there's just a long awkward silence, followed by the word "who?" |

Oh, right on, I get it. Forgive my slowness. NIN rules. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 711 Joined: 7 Nov 2006 |
I only recently got into NIN. But I have tons of respect for trent after he gave out the album for free. And he encourages australians to pirate his album because of how music is so overpriced here, but I purchased them anyway. I just realised looking at my music, I only have 3 new albums from 2008, the rest are singles or old music, this depresses me greatly. |

Steal the rest from the Pirate Bay. Trent gets shit money from his old Interscope albums anyways. Interscope screwed him in the ass. |

Each of the songs follow a plot about a man's self-searching, leading up to his suicide at the end (the Priest and the Matador, one of the best and saddest songs in recent memory). |

So what are everyone's personal favorite albums in '08 and why? Give Genre and Artist as well, in case anyone wants to pick them up.
My personal fav. is Vampire Weekend from... Vampire Weekend, strange synth afro drum indie power pop with an unbelievable flair. It is very pretentious but A-Punk, Walcott and The Kids Don't Stand a Chance are really awesome tracks.
A close second is From Mount Zoomer by Wolf Parade, listen if David Bowie influenced Indie Rock interests you.
