I was looking into the area around where I live ( Redmond, Washington, U.S.A) and I found several low cost warehouses that can be rented out for the a weekend. They are mostly sponsored by Microsoft and the like and are available at about $700 American. We could have members bring their own consoles or P.C and we could link them together for LAN matches or link them through a feed to other Escapist locations. The service provider could set up a dedicated link if we get them to sponser us. As for fluff we could ask some local food places to see if they would sponsor us and give us free stuff in return for say a couple of seconds of product placement I dont know. We would have a proper party for all the Escapists here in the States and with the link to other places, the party could be spread around.

What do you think?

Why does there only have to be only one American one? I mean America is a big place and I know that there has to be at least some minority on the west coast. Why not have two?

I suppose one place is as good as any but hink about it.

Seattle: Valve, Microsoft, Nintendo,Sony,Penny Arcade, etc.

California: Apple, etc.

I think Seattle is a more Gaming orientated city and deserves that right.

So that boils down to the ever elusive question. SoCal (Southern California? Los Angeles, San Diego, etc.) or NoCal? (Northern California, San Fransisco?)

I could probably show up to any that happen to make appearances in the US of A, given enough warning. Although I feel the crushing need for money...

I still think that Seattle should hold this honor ("honour" if it matters to anyone).

So do we have a decision smallharmlesskitten?

This is all irrelevant. We should hold it at my house because of the following reasons:

1. I'm awesome

2. You can commit murder in Perth and nobody would be the wiser

3. I don't have to move

4. I will have punch and pie

Have the Escapist staff or Themis said anything one way or another on this?

For people who are considering a US meetup in the Seattle area, why don't we all just get together and go to PAX?

*pets the kitten* Come now, we will simply use PAX as the host organism for our meetup. It's right in downtown Seattle, so we could always head off and do stuff outside of PAXif we like,

I agree with smallharmlesskitten on this- the Escapicon is the greatest idea I've heard for a while, and it would spiritually cheapen it if it were a piggyback to PAX.

Although I must concede that PAX is the most fun I have ever ahd in one weekend, I believe we can do better, I believe we can make a convention to be the envy of all the world. I believe in this cause and so should you all! /Psuedo Patriotic rant.

But seriously, I think that maybe we could compramise. What I mean is why cant the people in the seattle area meet at PAX when PAX is around and when PAX is over we, The Escapists, can hold an even better one that only the coolest of people could attend, i.e us.

Uh, at the risk of sounding like a total moron...

what's PAX?

Penny Arcade Expo - the convention that PA made. It sounds like the Mecca for real game fans; even E3 in its heyday doesn't compare to the stuff I hear about PAX. For example, one entire floor devoted to RPGs, board games and card games.

All of these locations are so far out of my reach that I cannot truly comment, sounds like a good idea in general though.

Well, I dare say that the Escapistcon is going to turn out rather well now

Who knows... It may turn into a regular thing

That's what I'm hoping for. If it's a regular thing, then the chances are greater that I might be able to make it sometime.

i like this. we dont have the money or the local community to do a new event, e for all just shut down after one year of failure. and how many people would realistically come to an event like this? 20? 30? but if we just do an escapist trip to pax it wouldnt be so much of an investment thus less likely to fail.

With the right events going on, you'd be surprised at how many people would show up.

If Themis and the Escapist staff decide this is a good idea, I think there's an excellent chance it'll be utterly fantastic.

If I have the money, I will do it, without question. So, at least one. And because I understand it from a personal perspective.
