You have contributed NOTHING OF VALUE to these forums. For someone supposedly about to turn 25, you're frighteningly vacuous.
And it's Death Note. Two words. TWO. WORDS.

I assure you sir that i have contributed plenty of content to these forums.

Basic computer knowledge? Chatspeak? Ridiculously overdone and inane topics?
Golly! What a contributor!

Ok seriously here - leave me alone. If you dont like what i am doing, take it to the moderators and they can have the final say. In the mean time, leave me alone and use this thread only for discussing deathnote.

Let's get back on topic, I like the first Deathnote movie for following the original story more. But there is a part of me that appreciates not having Near or Mellow. So the second movie is okay too.

Thanks for getting us back on track :D to be honest i have not even seen the deathnote movies. Is it worth downloading them? I mean, i have heard that, for what they are, they are pretty good... but then (NO offense is meant by the following) i am not to keen on asian real-world movie making skills. Their anime is great, but movies... i hesitate. Just think of the asian version of Godzilla!

It's always worth downloading something, it's not like bandwidth is scarce these days.

I actually haven't seen deathnote personally, everyone gives it high praise so I've been meaning to but after code geass I'm hesitant.

Code Geass? whats that? and also - i live in NZ. Our broadband is not slow, but 12mb/sec max speed ANYWHERE in the country with the average being roughly 3mb/sec is pretty terrible. some of Americas DIALUP is faster then our broadband. Bloody terrible.

Wait... what? Godzilla is asian (and that's the "good" version).

Anyway, I pretty much have the same opinion as crimson5pheonix, and thought they were pretty good.

Code Geasss is a good anime in my opinion. It's a very political anime that's closest relative (very loosely close) would be some of the more political Gundams like Gundam Wing. With super powers. As for the real asian acting in the Deathnote movies, they overact the deaths, but it's good otherwise. The first movie follows the first several episodes story very well (except for the end of it, but the end result is the same) but the second movie is totally different from the anime. Near and Mellow never make it in and I won't give it away.

As for internet speed, if you're complaining about 12 Mbps as being slow, that's the average top speed internet where I live. If you live in the downtown areas of certain major cities you might be able to get more than that. Maybe. Japan and Sweden have 100Mbps both ways in their major cities.

I see.... where can i download this anime from? a link would be great :D and i guess it probably is better for the storyline if Near and Mello dont get a place. They were always second rate to L.... whose real name was, incidentally, never revealed. I REALLY WANT TO KNOW! GAHHHHHHH! but anyway.

12MB as in, thats a thosand bucks a month starter if you want that kind of speed. New Zealand is a little behind in Fibre Optics - but then, one of our major roading companies has been laying Fibre for nigh on 10 years now.

I don't know about downloading, but I do know a couple sites where you can watch it.

And I heard that in the manga, they reveal L's name, and L is actually his first name (last name I can't remember).

Sorry then, what's your average speed internet then?

Really though,

you shouldn't ask me for

So look it up yourself. I'm sure you can find some

Let me check wiki real quick.

Edit: OK this is what wiki says:

wiki:
Also included in "13: How to Read" was a small card containing a picture of "L" stating his real name being : L. Lawliet

I wasn't too far off.

crimson5pheonix summed it up pretty well, it's hard to say what's good about it and if you watch both seasons in one go the ending can be a "sonofabitchitotally didn'tseethatcomingalthoughishouldhave".

If you're concerned about download time, start downloading rmvbs.

Ameatypie, I'll be blunt:
Get the hell off these forums.
You've done nothing but post subpar topics. We like to think of this place as the final bastion of intelligent discussion, and you see fit to metaphorically shit all over that.

Look, I love the Death Note (it's two words, genius) manga, though I prefer Berserk, HxH, and the Elfen Lied anime, but this ain't the place to discuss that.

Get off while you can. Ultrajoe is coming for you.

YES. Hunter X Hunter! Go that!

Also, I like your avatar. Hellsing rocks.

In general, manga > anime in all situations where the original work was a manga. There are a few exceptions, however, like Cowboy Bebop.

Well, that's the end of my posts on this subject, unless something incredibly awesome/stupid gets posted.

Oh piffle, 13 doesn't count. And that still doesn't mean it was his real name anyways. I mean, knowing L, it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't his real name. The fact that both his initials are L strikes me as something he made up.

His name is probably something like Frederick Black or something.

Actually 13 is the official guidebook-thing for the series, so I'm quite sure it does count. And it sounds like you misinterpreted what the quote said. 13: How to Read comes with a card. On that card is a picture of L. Above the picture of L is the name "L Lawliet" in the style that it would show up through shinigami eye vision. On the case the card comes in, the card is described as "True name card: L". To make sure that this was as clear as possible, L's profile has a list of his stats, one of which being "True name". The name provided there is also "L Lawliet". Does that clear things up?

Maybe you doubt it, because he has had several different fake names, and no parent in their right mind would name their kid L.

..I also hate that heavy metal intro song. It makes no sense and has nothing to do with the show. It seem like a way to appeal to the angsty teenager demographic that Death Note must pull in...

Actually, that intro repelled ALOT of the 'angsty teenager demographic' - me being a member at the time. Also, MTH, the band behind that intro aren't heavy metal, its just a shame that they edited all the 'heavy' parts together, the song is actually good otherwise and the female singer has a wonderfully uplifting voice.

Anyway. I love death note (and my death note, fan merch FTW!) however i think the yotsuba arc was sub-standard and the N+M episodes didnt reach the same level of quality as the start. It was still interesting to see the progression and i think the slower pace was fitting considering how long the investigation went on and how much it would have depressed everybody.

Favorite episode? I think it may have been 7 or 11 or something - the one where Light is persuading Ms. Penbar to give up her real name, i was on the edge of my seat the whole way :)

The movies? Well i watched the first, and it was alright i suppose however L's introduction was just plain awefull and none of it was as good as the anime, which is why i'll leave the second alone

L was an orphan. An orphan who refuses to sit down, literally never slept in his whole life, never blinks, is obsessed with candy, drinks coffee with more sugar than there is coffee itself, has over one-thousand aliases, is incredibly paranoid, considers it perfectly resonable to abduct people and keep them inprisoned and blinded for months because they might have been the criminal he was looking for, and kicks people across the room while he's handcuffed to them. It's not unreasonable that he gave himself a one-letter name.

yes but he does not assign himself a name at birth - somebody else would. THAT would be a true name.

literally never slept in his whole life,

You are aware that that would kill someone after about two weeks, right? I think the record is ten days or so without sleep before dying.

Death Note is amazing and I loved it. Personally I think the plot was best up to the point where L dies, not because I like L because I don't, I just think it wasn't as good without L being the nemesis. Light was my favourite character by far, he does so much wrong but so much right at the same time, and he is genius. My favourite episode.. hmm.. I can't really say I have one. I thought the movies were ok but I didn't like the degree to which they differed from the anime :)
