Nerd personally.

Geek, I think of a Nerd as a teachers pet, straight A student type. Or those little candies produced by Willy Wonka Candy... I love those things.

Nerd.

/thread

Always preferred geek. It's snappier, and doesn't rhyme with "turd".

But it does rhyme with freak.

Meh, I don't like either, but I nerd always feels more vicious when called it.

Geek originally meant "people who bite the heads of chickens" so I am going to go with nerd.

I'm sorry?

How exactly is that an end thread moment?

As a matter of fact it appears that Geek is the majority at the time of writing.

That guy:

Really?
I'm glad I went with geek then.

none, I preffere being called a Gaming Freak, which is what my non-geek/nerd/freak friends cal me.

What are you talking about?

ITS TRUE! lol
I thought it was rather strange to the first time I heard it. The first thing I thought of was "why would you want to do that?" and the second was "OMG Ozzy Osbourne was a geek!! Sort of :P "

I think Nerd=cellotaped glasses

I think Geek= 20th lvl paladin with a Holy Avenger +16. Or someone who stubs their toe and says they failed their saving throw.

Have an Internet cookie for making me laugh hard. XD

I prefer nerd, it sounds cool.
'Geek' is what all the chavs say as an insult, in their masculine voices. Bless them.

People are using the word geek for everything now, it's not really that much of a negative here in the UK.

I'm a person. If you want to try to degrade me with some tags then go right ahead. Just because I like to play games and watch Star Wars doesn't make me any different than you.

Geek, im a fanatic who belongs in a circus

I pity all of you who let people call you nerds or geeks.
If your whole life comes down to gaming and you can't even hide this fact, you have failed at it.
I spend a lot of times playing PC games, but I don't think anyone except my close friends and family knows this. I just assume my way of killing time is not interesting to other people, just like conversations about knitting are uninteresting to me, so I don't talk about games.
On the other hand a lot of people know that I have a drinking problem, so maybe I shouldn't criticize.

Gee with such loaded choices to such an easily misunderstood topic i just dont see how anyone could have a different opinion than me...

I prefer to be called Aaron.

Well {geeks} are ____ so i must be a nerd

No, clearly you're mistaken nerds are more ____ and geeks are really ____

lather -> rinse
*repeat*

I've always thought of nerds as those addicted to Microsft Excel and have straight A's but not much else.
Geek has always meant someone who is perhaps a bit too much into popular culture, but otherwise ok to me.
Which is why I prefer 'Geek'.

Geek. Computer geek to be specific. Although, I don't really mind being called a nerd either; I think of both as compliments.

Geek. Nerd just sounds...I don't know, kind of angry

Geek seems to me to imply more of an interest in esoteric, odd activities that aren't "socially acceptable," like D&D or computers. Nerd implies more of a bookishness, someone with thick glasses who pour over chemistry texts. From that perspective, I prefer "geek" as it has a broader range of interests included.

Insults from Chavs are like chocolate in an (hot) oven calling cheese soft

Has anyone here actually ever been called a nerd or a geek?

My younger sister has called me a geek, but that's her job.

Apart from that, no.

Geek is technological, nerd is academic, dork is fantasy. They are different things. I'm a geek.

neither i prefer to be called a gamer thats what i see myself as, and what my friends say i am.

Dork, cause my cousin always calls me it with love. Plus we both think of nerds as highly intelligent people, or extremely clumsy. I myself am both!

However if I can only choose between those two, I would choose nerd. Cause I'm a comic book collector dude, or a comic nerd.

That's ok, just because you like to (edit: watch) Star Wars doesn't make you a geek or a nerd ;)

I'm going with Geek though technically I should be rolling with Nerd (being a uid<90,000 member of slashdot among other things) mostly because I prefer the way geek sounds. It's snappy (as someone said) and it makes more sense. For me Nerd has always been the insult.

Oh yeah did I mention the company I work for has Geek in the name. So I really have to follow suit!

THAT's a /thread kind of post.

Nimbus:
dork is fantasy..

Well a dork is someone who's both parents worked(during colonial times) so the children had to wear a door key around their neck. Therefor dork.

On topic: I'm a nerd and has been for several years.

I've always perceived nerds as those who are social rejects and have poor personal hygiene, while a geek is just someone who is really into something. Therefore you can have a star wars geek and a sports geek, but you can also have someone who fills both categories, but nerd overrides geek in this case.

I am a geek.

I just want to know what ever happened to Gearhead?

Supernovajake:

Geek - by my family, heh.

I'm a geekish nerd
