Copy Clerk Posts: 110 Joined: 9 May 2008 | Geek, as many have said I have always thought of nerds with straight A's, glasses, academically awesome, while I have thought of geeks as those who are good/spend a lot of time in other things that most people don't do (i.e. video games) |
Press Junketeer Posts: 428 Joined: 20 Oct 2008 | i would personally prefer gamer given the choice, but failing that i'd prefer geek. no particular reason for why I'd choose geek over nerd, I just would. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1830 Joined: 20 Mar 2008 | I've always preferred geek, with the view that nerds are pretty much synonymous with the kids that walk around with horn-rimmed glasses and twelve books in their arms while wearing a pastel-colored polo shirt and khakis, and respond to everything you say with a nasaly "Well, actually...". Geek brings to mind the more relaxed type, typically with glasses, jeans, and some sort of snarky comment or fantasy art on their t-shirts, who make D&D/internet jokes and sometimes attempt to be cool. Which is odd, considering that I'm more of an artsy-intellectual than either. Out of normal classification, though, I hail closest to geek. Jesus saves. The rest of you take 3d12 damage. |

I thought it used to mean someone's knob. There's a quote about the Wolfman to that effect but I can't remember where it's from. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2787 Joined: 5 Aug 2008 | I have to go with geek. The explanations as to why have already been given. Nerd= Smart with academic stuff Also, I love biting the heads off of chickens. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1812 Joined: 8 Nov 2008 | Intresting it seems geek is alot more of a compliment to you guys. Both are compliments to me though, I mean when is being intelligent a dissadvantage? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3587 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | I like when people use my name. Or nerd, geek just sounds weird. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2810 Joined: 7 May 2008 | Nerd implies that you're more intelligent than the people insulting you. I'ma go with nerd. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 602 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I'm probably closer to nerd than geek. I think geek is more socially unacceptable while nerd is having knowledge that nobody cares about. I'll physically fight people if they call me one of those to my face, although I think getting offended at name-calling is childish, and I don't really care, I look for every opportunity to assert my dominance. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3310 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | I am an art geek, that is for sure. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3712 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I am neither but if I had to pick id go with geek. Nerds are stright A trekkie types with pocket protectors and taped up glasses. Btw wtf is up with every thread having some idiot within the first 5 posts give a one sentence answer follow by "/thread" Wtf is this stupid /thread thing ? Is it some stupid "oh soo humourous" meme that I missed out on ? Or is it only funny to people who still think "the cake is a lie" is somehow still witty ? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1653 Joined: 2 Nov 2008 | Heh, I find it funny how I've never been called a geek, nerd or dork by anyone other than my friends (in an affectionate manner seeing how we're all geeks) even though at one point me and my friends used to play D&D on a desk in front of main office at our school every lunch for an entire year. I'd call myself a geek btw. |

It was never "witty". People only thought it was. It was just part of a great game. Nothing more. |

Muckraker Posts: 228 Joined: 7 Nov 2008 | I'm more a geek than a nerd, but I more often get called a nerd. If I had a choice though, DORK. lol :D |
Press Junketeer Posts: 426 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | What is this, the 70's? Some people refer to others as "Scrubs" on Xbox live. Ok, thank you for the decades old reference, you are very hip. |

Well, at least now I know for sure! Does it make me less nerdy to ask for you to refer to me as "Technologically savy?" |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3382 Joined: 23 Oct 2007 | I'm a nerd. I've always hated the sound of the word "geek" - although I fall into certain characteristics of both kinds. Intellectual ability and glasses with a relaxed sartorial style. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 550 Joined: 28 Aug 2008 | I rather be called a geek because the truth is "I am!" It really isn't my fault that my family are geeks aswell. even my friends are geeks. The thing is I also socialise and in my opinion nerds rather stay at home and go on a computer and find something that may entertain them. Tell me if i'm wrong because i'd rather be corrected but dont criticise please! |

No not at all, but only if you refer to me as Ma'am ;D |
BANNED Posts: 1198 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | I like the work geek. I think it sounds more enthusiatic. "Yay for geekiness" sounds better imo. User was banned for: Banning poems from schools in the UK. (Permanent) |
Muckraker Posts: 277 Joined: 17 Jul 2008 | "NERD = Not even remotely dorky" -Professor J. Frink I like nerd more, to me it conjures images of a computer addict who is good in math. The word geek brings me an image of an overweight role-player. Personally, I'd go with enginerd. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1220 Joined: 18 Jun 2008 | Nerd. It's a more accurate description of myself. Although I should go with "athletic nerd" since pounding turf in football/track/martial arts allows me that title. |
Paperboy Posts: 37 Joined: 5 Nov 2008 | Nerd. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 538 Joined: 20 May 2008 | Nerds are simply smart geeks, and i dont consider geekiness bad. Therefore geekiness just is and nerd is a compliment |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2621 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 | I consider geek to be linked primarily to the geeky interests of comics, AD&D, games, cultish films. Generally speaking pretty normal but with socially frowned upon interests. Nerd I consider describing having glasses, being overly techie and desperate to show it, probably smart but way too proud of it (not that intelligence is a bad thing). I think geek has kind of been brought over into the mainstream now, it's not really a bad thing to be described as a bit 'geeky' what with the whole 'geek-chic' thing kicking off.
Damn, I'm using that more often. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1290 Joined: 4 May 2008 | Geek is what cute girls who play Nintendo Wii all the time with their bespeckled girlfriends, and therefore has a cuter, more positive connotation. They wouldn't call themselves nerds in their Facebook blurb. therefore I'm a geek. Though really my full title would be Mr Jebus rockponce-geek-emo-sexy Saves |
Press Junketeer Posts: 425 Joined: 14 Sep 2008 | Option 4: Nither Geek or Nerd Whereas i am quite smart with computers and stuff im not realy the sort of person you'd call a geek or a nerd. |
