I just today got a new PC, and a message keeps coming up to install flash installer. When I install it, AVG decides it's a virus. I find it hard to believe a programme such as flash vould contain a trojan, and have scoured the internet, but got unhelpful varied results.

Some say it's not a virus and to ignore it (Which is annoying, as everytime flash is needed, the virus threat pops up) And even through flash is installed, it still occasionally asks me to install it.

I'm getting more and more annoyed, and wondered if any of you have had the same problem, and are aware of the solution.

Thanks a lot x.

EDIT: Solution = post 4.

The name it gives to the girus is 'Trojan Horse PSW.Generic6.AQPD', and says it is located in 'C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\FlashUtil10a.exe'

If that helps anyone.

Some steps you can take to try and solve this:

- Use a different virus scanner to see if it detects it as a virus as well.
- Order AVG to Clean, or Remove the infected file.
- Download flash from Shockwave. (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/)

Woohoo, found the solution.

Anybody who has the same problem, try this...

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Others/Signatures-Updates/AVG-AntiVirus-Definitions.shtml

Download these free virus definitions, and save them to the AVG programme files.

Download the latest AVG update, from the AVG website, not from the main interface.

Restart your PC, and everything should be fine.

This is NOT a virus, just something AVG and Symantec think is. It is not harmful to your computer whatsoever, it's just very annoying. You can solve this problem the same way if you are a Symantec/Norton user by downloading Symantec/Norton virus definitions and once again updating from the website.

EDIT

For this to work, you have to have the 'virus' on your PC.

Also, how do I go about getting this thread locked now that my problem is solved? Sorry to be a pain.

Well, your first problem is using AVG in the first place. I'm pretty sure Symantec Antivirus is free, and it's really, really easy to use. Also, if you don't mind being a moral peasant, you can get Norton Anti Virus Corporate Edition off of various torrent sites.

I've never really been a fan of Norton to be honest. Sure, AVG was a bit sketchy in the past, but the new 8.0 is really simple, and now has anti-spyware in it. (I still prefer my dedicated anti-spyware programme, Ad-Aware)
