I really wish John Lennon was here now.

I'd love to talk with him about the state of the world today.

Dimebag, Cliff Burton, Hillel Slovek :(

Richard Wright, ok he was 65 but one of the most influencial keyboardists ever

How could I have forgot Dimebag? Man, that's possibly the most horrible death in rock in my opinion.
(RIP Dimebag)

For the record, Kurt Cobain should have been aborted so we didn't have to put up with that shit.

He was vocalist/songwriter in arguably the most important band of the 90's. He contributed a lot to his time's music scene; just like the others you listed did for their times.
But, to each his own...

I guess I should back up my statement.

In my honest, oh so humble opinion, this country went down the shitter when it came to music, all because of him. I have yet to hear a band say they claimed influence from Cobain/Nirvana AND impress me. Without him, we wouldn't have mainstream alternative bands (which is a load of shit if you do any research on alternative msuic) and grunge. Those are probably the two worst subgenres of rock n' roll. Nirvana is the Halo 3 of music: Popular, but severely lacking in quality.

Someone's obviously not a grunge fan...
But some good bands came from that era nonetheless; Soundgarden, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins. Not all grunge bands per se, but still good bands that owe at least a tiny bit to Cobain...
And surely blaming one guy for the crap in the charts at the moment is a bit unfair?

Dave Carter. He lived to be 49 but he didn't start producing music until the mid 90's. He died from a heart attack despite being a vegetarian Buddhist.

I surprised that no one metioned Joe Strummer or Keith Savage.

I 2nd all the mentions of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, and Jim Morrison. I'll also just throw Kurt Cobain's name out there because we were already sixteen posts into the thread without him being mentioned.

Fianlly i was expecting to see him first!

The drowning pool singer Dave Williams!

He sure did let his body hit the floor!

Oh come on!
Poor taste anyone?

AHAHAHAHAHA. Poor taste, but god it made me laugh.

My vote is for Cliff Burton. And Freddy Mercury.

Keith Moon, Hendrix, SRV, Janice Joplin, and Duane Allman.

That's all I've got off the top of my head right now.

Yes, Dimebag's passing was extremely tragic. And it happened on my birthday, no less (December 8), so I'm always reminded of it.

Scatman John and Freddy Mercury.
The saddest thing about Freddy is that after he died people learned he was gay and people stopped liking Queen music.

I second Freddy Mercury. He's so awesome, he shows up in the anime/manga Cromartie High School. And yes, he IS a main character.

Ol Dirty Bastard! - The heart and soul of the Wu Tang Clan (imo), if he stuck with it they could have released another hit album and the next generation of kids would have laughed at fifty cent rather than bopped their heads.
Kurt Cobain because if he was still around crappy music which passes for rock might have been less popular.

I feel pretty depressed after realising the effect they had on the music industry today.

Great musicians that died too young.

All of them.

Beign a great musician means you can create great music no matter what your age is and as long as you can do it, your death is always too soon for your fans.

Ian Curtis of Joy Division, killed himself not far from where I am living at the moment. A lot of bands from the past 20 years have been influenced by his music.

Jacqueline du Pre.

Damn fine cellist.

10 years before she died, Multiple Sclerosis robbed her of all feeling in her fingers, making one of the greatest cellists in the world unable to play a single note.

She died in her early 40s, I think.

I mean, not only did she die young, but she had to be subjected to the complete torture of losing all of her music-making capacity......Talk about devastating.....

It was sarcasm to indicate that I don't care about janice jalopy.

Wow, someone lecturing me about sarcasm who can't recognize it himself. (ah I've gone and wet myself) Can you at least try to spell the name right, that way we think your just a dick, not an stupid one? And really if you not even going to post an artist, why post at all? Man, you need a change of attitude like I need a change of pants.
Oh Yeah, and Peter Tosh.

Actually, you are right. I made the original post immediately after the conclusion of an argument with my girlfriend. It wasn't contributing to the thread and frankly I don't even know why I posted it.

Sorry about that, my mistake.

After watching the Herzog film Heart of Glass, apparently. I can't figure that out. There are far more depressing movies than that... and better movies to go out on.

I would have to say Freddy Mercury and Chopin. Not so sure about Chopin tho, since his best music came after he became sick.
