While I am not hugely fat or unhygenic I am incredibly out of shape, I hate excercise and I love food just a little too much. This is mostly due to the fact that I would much rather do something else(re: videogames) and I have yet to find any form of physical activity that strikes me as fun enough to engage in. So I'm curious, what do other geeks on The Escapist do to keep in shape?

I go to the gym about 3 times a week and play hockey (ice hockey, to UK people) on Saturday nights. I can confidently say I'm in good shape.

Problem is I can't get anyone to go to the gym with me, and it's boring alone. I also hate competative sports.

Ramen and DDR. The epitome of geek and it works. An hour a night and all the ramen i could stomach, lost 30 pounds in 2 months.

I metabolize.

>_>

<_<

But in all honesty, while I don't really look it I'm really feeling out of shape. I'm planning to do some swimming and gymming, basically.

Also, dancing to your favorite songs in front of the computer now and then can do you good.

Start swimming, or go to the gym and guilt everyone around you into coming with.

My metabolism is good enough to keep me from being a giant fatass, but not good enough to make me skinny. Still that dance in front of the computer might be a good idea.

I belt out 20 miles a day on my Bicycle. Time-trial style to and from work.

Plus riding a BMX in the early mornings, a mountain bike at the weekends, swimming when the urge takes me and humping large boxes around as part of my job.

I am extremely fit.
But rather annoyingly have absolutely no pectoral muscles or biceps, gaaaaahhhhhhh.

Cross Country...

I try to at least put in 10km(~6.2 miles) of running a week...Nothing is wrong with loving food mabey a little to much...I have to say I do also...*Drools about his sick love for anything pasta*...But I try to eat healthly...

I don't do soy or tofu anything *hurling emotion*...But i love me some fruits...keep your vitamin levels up and chocolate and bag sugar levels down...and your sure to lose something...And if you have to have something sugar like...

Grab something that does not have high frutose corn syrup...As much as people blast and moan about how healty sweets suck...They are just brain washed to thinking that the same thing applies that applies to Burgers...McDonalds vs A burger you make yourself...Greese does not mean flavor...

"Cat, I'm a kitty cat, and I dance dance dance...."

Do I dance? (Some DDR, but that's more like flailing about.) No, I've got no one to dance with. I do however, run. I also ride my bike whenever I get the chance. (When late spring finally sets in, I'll be good to go.)

117 lbs, though at 5'4", I'm not that much of an imposing figure. (Hobbits, y'know?)

mmmm... Pasta... surely the ultimate food.

I know exactly how you feel...running builds nothing up top...And while I can run with my girlfriend on my back the thought of only being able to do 10-20 pushups before my arms start to hurt really erks me...

I'm a big guy that's still a bit overweight but I'm pretty damn fit and healthy.

I tend to run about 3-4 times a week (normally 5km and then a 7.5km on Sundays).

That plus intermittent press ups and weight usage. I'd be pretty buff if it wasn't for the thick layer of fat I'm trying to work off.

Spent the last 6 months being healthy. But that's after 22 years of mistreatment, so we have a way to go yet!

Thankfully I live in Canada, we have stricter health laws than you guys do in the states, there are only like 2-3 products up here with High Fructose Corn Syrup. We've also had a pretty universal Trans-Fat ban.

I have this thing where my thighs are pretty very thick, there's just a little bit caught around my waist... but a few of my lower ribs are clearly visible.

So the higher you go, the less fat tissue.

If that's true, that's actually impressive. I'm a skinny rail right now, but I'll have to remember this when age kicks in and I start swelling with wisdom.

Buy a Powerball! :P

Lol. Nah, i go to the gym 3 times a week and do weights.

Drumming is a fun and easy way to get at least some form of excercise. Swimming is also easy and healthy without the sweaty feeling.

What I would do if I could live in a county with stricter health laws...Being 20 and living in Amerika(Spelling error on purpose) I feel that the food companies are out to get me...

used to work out 3 days a week and still do whenever i have time. sadly uni is taking much too much time and then there's all the games that came out this fall. procrastinating until spring.

if you don't like gyms, then simply do excercise in you home for a few hours, put some good music on, and do sets of press ups, sit ups, and if you can find a place, do chin ups. Being able to adapt your muscles to your own weight is essential!

Forget the gym. Unless you're the obsessive type, gyms tend to get really old really fast. Take a class that teaches you something new. Try a martial art or break dancing and you'll get in ridiculous shape and probably have fun while doing so. Things like hiking and trail running are also great if you're lucky enough to have the access. Trust me though, running on a machine while listening to your ipod will not sustain you.

Also, exercising is definitely worth it if only because playing a videogame after working out is literally twice as fulfilling.

I gots me one of those. Does bugger all for for muscle mass, brilliant for wrist and forearm strength though.
Do a 24 hour race with two teams of three, each with one power ball. It's a scream but you'll be eating one handed for a week.

Me too! I'm 6'4" at 165/170 ish!

You know the plus side is that we both are EXCELLENT at 'hide-and-seek'. I mean, we can fit between a wall and a poster! Plus, if we ever have to jump through a narrow hole in order to excape zombie, nazis, or zombie nazis, then we have a better chance then most!

Parkour/freerunning (whichever one takes my fancy at the time)

advanteges
1) its none competative
2) you can do it anywhere
3) Its a hell of a lot of fun!

I live in Calgary which is freerunning unfriendly, nothing is close together here.

I play rugby, 4 times a week. But I LOVE food.

I don't really need to, as I eat well and have a pretty good metabolism - lucky right? I went to the gym when I played football, though, which bored the living hell out of me.

Edit: If we get count walking (pfft, cheat) I walk three miles everyday, since I'm too cheap to get the bus. But hey, walking's fun so I deal.

I have to walk a mile each day to college, i walk about 10 miles each shift at work (2 shifts a week) and i've started boxing (although i missed it today)

I hated football...as it was a team baised sport and i was always left out of the team aspect..."I'm wide open here!" but he still throws to the guy with 3-4 people on him...over and over and over...so I left that idea and have not played since...

Football (or soccer for the American readers) on Saturday, martial arts on Monday, Sports lessons on Wednesday... All that sports paired with an almost inhuman metabolism pretty much ensures I won't get fat anytime soon.

I have an active job involving lots of walking and moving heavy boxes, so that keeps me from being a complete blob. I don't exercise just for the sake of it, though-- self-inflicted torture is not my idea of a good time.

I'm in decent enough shape. I'm good at rugby, I'm told by my teachers, but I don't apply myself. Apparently if I made an effort I would be quite good, but I'm just not interested. I don't go to any gyms, dreadful places, but I do a very irregular excerise thing. Just occasional running, sit-ups weight lifting sessions that sort of thing. And I have an incredible metabalism. I could eat just about anything, I just can't get fat. Not even if I really tried. I'm just not built for it.

I go out jogging 2-3 times a week and go horse riding once a week. Do you have anywhere nice to do either of these activities because if you know anywhere scenic then it can be a wonderful experience.

Also, can you swim because that is another good thing to do if there is a decent pool nearby (unfortunately there is none near me). Finally, bedroom exericses are something I do everyday (sit-ups, press-ups, weights etc.) and I don't find it a hassle because for example, I can tilt my laptop screen down and watch Zero Punctuation while doing sit-ups. Anyway, these are just ideas.
