Hello fellow escapists!

I have gathered from the short time I have been posting that we have a broad cross section of people from various cultures and countries!

My questions to you are...

Where are you from?

Do you like your government?

Reasons why/why not?

What is your favourite pizza? :)

I myself am a New Zealand bloke, Our country just voted in a new government. I am very happy about that. Change is good and what this country needs. A fresh start.

Hey look, maybe a pointless thread but its a great way to get to know you guys/gals and the views that you have!

-Joe

p.s Hawaiian pizzas ftw ;)

I'm from Canada (Vancouver, British Columbia, specifically), and we just re-elected the Conservative party for some stupid reason. I don't like them; they don't agree with my views, and I don't believe that they agree with the views of most Canadians, either. I think they won because the leader of the Liberals is so ineffectual. I can take solace in the fact that they still only have a minority government, but it doesn't change the fact that I watched the American election results and said "I don't hate that" when I was unable to say the same thing just a few weeks earlier in my own country.

If we're going for standard pizzas, I'm going to go for pepperoni, but there's a place in Vancouver called Uncle Fatih's and their potato pizzas are absolutely incredible.

I'm from the USA, and currently, I'm a little unsettled about my government. I don't agree with a lot of the choices Bush made during his term, and I'm currently on the fence about Obama, since his term hasn't started yet. As for pizza, Hawaiian, and if that's not available, sausage.

Hey fair call mate, thats all you can do and you'll have to let him play it out and see what he can do to re-establish control in the US!

Thanks for the post!

Why thank you. I see no reason in being biased for or against someone who hasn't even begun making decisions for our country.

Thanks guys/gals.

I'm from the U.S. I don't really pay attention to the government, although maybe I should, and my favorite pizza is deep dish supreme.

Any particular reason why you don't like your government?

You don't believe Obama can make the necessary changes to stabilise your infrastructure? Or you think he's a plain c***? Haha.

I don't think that anyone should be stabilizing our "infrastructure", and I think Obama is an empty suit--which he came close to saying, himself, at one point. Human Rorschach test. People see what they want to.

In any case, Obama is not synonymous with the U.S. government. I also object universally to the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Supreme Court, the various state and city governments, the Joint Chiefs, the CIA, the FBI, the police, military, and the department of Agriculture. And the Cabinet. And anyone else that works directly for the government.

It's not THEM so much as everything they've said and done for the past 100+ years.

Quebec Canada (though just moved here 2 months ago, originally from Ontario).
Federal government I actually like. The minority Conservatives did a fantastic job last term by lowering GST, create stronger policies for the environment (though maybe not strong enough) and help distribute wealth amongst provinces. I think by being a minority they are the most efficient government we've had since the 90's as they have to tip toe and not attempt large changes that upset everyone. As far as their policies towards social aspects I'd say they aren't doing too bad but I do know some of their stances rub people the wrong way. And that's why I think a minority gov for them is perfect. Though the Prime Minister is not someone I'm very favourable towards.

Provincial government I don't know much about though they did go on record today announcing they will drop all provincial tax on what they called "cultural" purchases (ie CDs, DVDS, etc.) so I can't view them as bad guys. Plus they aren't seperatists which is a worry here.

And I like my pizza Canadian with actual peameal bacon.

Middle of Nowhere, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Harper is a tool, much rather see Layton or May or whoever the heck the Liberals feed to the wolves next in charge.

I'll take a slice of pepperoni and a slice of Hawaiian and put them on top of one another, so the toppings are all between the crusts, creating the pizza sandwich, a marvel of food technology.

And what does it say about me that my pizza sentence is longer than my politics sentence?

Minneapolis, Minnesota: come for the casserole, stay because you're snowed in.

I don't know about my government, honestly. They certainly haven't been doing a bang-up job of late, but Obama seems to know what's what. I don't really follow politics.

Hawaiian pizza is amazing, but most people don't try it because their initial reaction is "Pineapple? On pizza? Wierd." Their loss.

You should let them know where I live people regularly put butter on their crusts and mayonnaise all over their pizza. Now THAT'S weird.

Ah, so you gave Helen Clark and company the boot? I spent the first half of this year working in Wellie. Nice town and so on. Anyways, from the US and I must say change is a good thing. Eight years of idiotic policy is now over. *whew* As to pizza, give me a italian sausage and garlic. yummy.

Great Britain.

I am indifferent about my government. The British Labour Party has lurched to the right in the last 10-15 years in order to incorporate the middle classes of the Home Counties and the bankers of the City of London. Being drawn towards the left, the Labour Party should be my first point of call in mainstream British politics, but I find them too similar to the Conservative Party in far too many aspects. Someone like John Cruddas taking over the party would make me get back on board.

My favourite pizza is Salami.

Texas, United States. I'm... concerned with the government, in such a way that I am doing everything I can to learn as much as possible regarding our intelligence, Homeland Security, and foreign policies all work together. It's kind of a big deal to me. I don't trust my government, and I don't think I'm supposed to.

I'll take pizza Margherita, the original, with tomatoes, sliced mozzarella, basil, and olive oil. And not to offend, but Hawaiian pizza... see, don't get me wrong, I LOVE pineapple, but something about pineapple that's warm like that just... ugh. It's the texture, I think, but Hawaiian pizza is definitely not for me.

Y feliz cumpleaņos, milomalo!

I wouldn't know my government if they slapped me in the face. Then again, if they slapped in the face ACA would be all over that! :P

And I like my pizza deep pan, and covered in BBQ sauce and meat.

Mmm... Dead animal flesh...

Alabama, United States. Don't really like it here, but that's probably because I've lived in way better places.

I don't vote and don't really care about the government as a whole. I think most of it is bullshit and it'll work itself out no matter who is President or which party is running the show for the House and such. If I did vote, I would probably throw it away on some independent or libertarian anyway. I would probably take more of an interest if I lived in a swing state or if the electoral system was removed completely.

I like my pizza...well, in a lot of different ways. Jalapenos, grilled chicken, bacon (not Canadian bacon, real bacon), and black olives is one of my favorites. I also enjoy just a plain cheese pizza. White pizzas are good too. I basically eat everything except sausage, but I can even tolerate that.

Here, it's often sour cream. I can't see mayonnaise myself, but I don't like mayonnaise very much.
