Gone Gonzo Posts: 1735 Joined: 29 May 2008 | My sister is one of those people who hasn't yet grasped the scales of how things work. I for example, am not the richest person around. I don't have the money, especially with all this money bunkery thats going on to be too picky of the source of meats etc. End of the day, i gotta eat. My sister only eats meat where she knows what conditions it lived in etc. I do hate animal cruelty, but unfortunately when it comes down to them or me, it's gotta be me im afraid. I don't like it, but i do find the whole lot a bit hypocritical, i don't agree animals should be abused, but to them some abuse seems more acceptable than others. It's a tough subject really. PeTA are gonna have a tough time if there is a big recession as people will stop caring about ethical reasons and more about price, people have to eat. And i'm pretty much a carnivore (albeit one with a bbq/mexican/curry sauce requirement). |
Press Junketeer Posts: 443 Joined: 25 Sep 2008 | I dislike most people who try to push things like being a vegetarian on you because they find it cruel to animals. I have no problem with vegetarians but please don't tell me not to eat meat because of your beliefs. I hate PeTA (and yes i know hate is a strong word rather then dislike) PETA is a few screws loose from being considered a cult. The blood throwing, the stupid flash about eating a turkey and thanksgiving, and all the other crap they do is just way to extreme. People who believe that eating meat and such are cruel to animals should just protest hunting, eat their salads, and stick to their beliefs. Personally i would not shred a tear of remorse if any of them drank the koolaid. Now if you'll excuse me i have a cow to go devour :D |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2591 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 | I support the protection of pets, as they exist only to keep us company so we have a right not to beat on them. But otherwise, such as for experiments, clothing and food? I don't care. Seriously, we don't need to be going out of our way to hurt them but certainly shouldn't be the focus of attention when some lab animals live nicer lives than some kids. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3354 Joined: 8 May 2008 | I just hate them because they go over the top. What is it with americans and their slander campaigns ? True my experience is limited but the Prop 8 ads and the few PETA things I have seem are sooo unprofessional. Plus well... meat is just too feaking tasty to give up. Sure some places no doubt are still cruel to animals but alot of places would raise and slaughter them in a humane way. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 530 Joined: 12 Mar 2008 | Well I don't think the topic creator asked how we felt about animal rights. PETA is nuts. A bunch of stupid hypocrites. They 'save' animals by killing them. What was the whole big deal about the polar bear cub awhile ago? There was this baby polar bear whose mother abandoned it and this zoo was trying to save it but PETA demanded it be killed, because a Polar bear not raised by it's own natural parents is 'better off dead,' they said. They. Are. Fucking. Nuts. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 567 Joined: 22 Apr 2008 | Any group that throws buckets of (fake) blood on people gets an instant dislike. PETA tries hard to be hated, while they achieved it a long long time ago. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1261 Joined: 29 Jan 2008 | PETA likes animals more than it does people, simple as that. And any group of people that likes turkeys more than people from Turkey is messed up in my book. EDIT: why is their no option for "I bloody hate PETA", "I think PETA is nuts", or "mmmmmmm, roast beef sandwich"? |

Did they kill it ? ;.; |

No. According to the one article I found, the zoo director basically said "fuck you" and ignored PETA. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 492 Joined: 24 May 2008 | They're psychotic. The only stances they claim to follow that I also believe in is that animals shouldn't be tortured, because if you torture animals (or kill them just for fun) then YOU'RE psychotic. Meat may be murder, but it's highly nutritional and tasty murder! |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2019 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | I fucking hate them too, the bunch of dog murdering nutters. I actually like animals, but their solutions seem to be alarmingly detrimental to human & animals welfare. I have a very low opinion of most 'animal rights terrorists'. Does anyone from the UK remember those nutjobs who exhumed the corpse of the (dead for years) grandmother of someone who owned a guinea pig farm & held it hostage in a cupboad? http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article704189.ece I know that may not have actually been PETA but they're cut from the same cloth. But I did quite enjoying playing that flash game they made, it was fun cutting up those turkeys & pulling the feathers off, especially with the cool blood effects. I can't wait for them to release the game where you get to kill cows with a bolt gun. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 780 Joined: 17 Jul 2008 | Supporting animals is a good thing, like supporting the hugging of children. Peta just takes it too far; hey aren't just hugging children, they are stealing kids from their parents, throwing massive campaigns saying every one doesn't hug their kids enough, and throwing any kid they get their hands on into a massive child-hugging-machine. They've lost sight of what they really are about. |
Beat Writer Posts: 175 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | It is a real pity. I'm an animal lover and I hate PETA specifically because they lie. They have a real bad track record of exaggerating and it only hurts the cause by detracting from the real problems. Case in point: their cooking mama "parody." It is so far off the mark when it comes to reality, it just shows that they are willing to go to extremes which detract from their message and don't even get it as to why they fail to have more support. Here's the actual game: |

Just thought it was worth mentioning seeing as it seems to be the entire community's view on this :P By the way, thanks for not voting pro killing animals and designing stupid games that afterwards kick the designers in their face with a shit-covered foot :) |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 25 Oct 2008 | as the general consensus shows, Most people have an intense dislike of PETA. And at the same time I'm pretty sure that everyone against PTA is also against animal cruelty. I love how they take the whole "either with us or against us" attitude. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 449 Joined: 10 Jun 2008 | Just like any organization, I think a few bad apples tarnish the whole thing. As an animal lover and owner myself, I think what their objectives for animal saftey and treatment is well intentioned, but a few radicals have managed to take the whole organization into a PR mess. I understand that some people beleive you need to be 'edgy' and 'controversial' to be heard, and let's be honest...animals rights generally take the backseat to most other causes time and time again. However, militant tactics and social terrorism may be doing them more harm than good. I think if you even ask PETA members themselves, they would be divided as to how they think they should act on certain causes and probably don't always approve of all their campaigns. To play devil's advocate, if not Peta, then who else would bring certain animal issues to the forefront of society? I own and love my dog very dearly. Prior to me owning a dog, I knew of animal rights issues, but was of the thinking "out of sight----out of mind". Only once did I become a dog owner did I really learn about and take an interest in Puppy mills. Now I may not support Peta on throwing blood on celebrities who wear fur, but I do support them in their fight and putting the spotlight on Puppy mills. Does that make me a Peta member? Heck no....but I do admire some of their causes and stances. Again, if not them....who? I can't think of another domestic organization who takes animal righst issues seriously. The government? Heh...just watch one epsidoe of 'Animal Cops' on Animal Planet and you'll see how much red tape those under-funded officers have to deal with. It's like Animal Cops Detroit...they have a total of like 4 officers for the whole damn city...yes they help, but it's like throwing a pebble in Lake Superior. Does anyone notice? |

The problem with PETA is that those bad apples are the ones who founded it and are running the organization. Newkirk's support of the A.L.F. and personal views about when it's ok to kill animals (and people) are fairly well documented. Support the Humane Society or some form of the SPCA if you do truly care about animals. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2069 Joined: 23 Feb 2008 | I am fine with their decision to not eat meat, but I am not fine with them constantly protesting on my campus, blocking my way to class, and calling people who go into the kfc murderers. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2849 Joined: 8 Jul 2008 | Where is the "Hate them with every fibre of your being and hope for their demise" option? They're weeaboos and lunatics, they think eating eggs and drinking milk is "cruel". I'll let Penn & Teller explain it for ya: |
Muckraker Posts: 335 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | Penn and Teller: Bullshit! did a great episode on what's wrong with PETA. The general idea behind the group is ok, but my general feeling is that I'd rather volunteer at and support my local animal shelters and decide for myself what I'd like to eat. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2849 Joined: 8 Jul 2008 |
Really? Why were they protesting outside your campus? Ha, reminds me of the guy who ate KFC in front of a PeTA protest... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1869 Joined: 11 Jul 2008 | I'm gonna be all serious and say I think actually damage the animal rights movement in the way religious nuts give religion a bad name. Sure it's a good idea to treat animals well, and not inflict unnecessary pain, but when you're harrassing, assaulting and injuring people because they may have done something to an animal, you've got your priorities mixed up imo. I'm all for animal rights, fair end ethical treatment etc, but I think we could really stand to care about people a lot more before go throwing our last dollar in PETA's box. For my money there's a hundred other animal charities that want to help without bordering on terrorism. With Penn & Teller, I feel sometimes they have their own agenda, so I'll watch it and make up my own mind, although MOST of the time I'm in agreement with them at least, as they have passion about their subjects and portray the show in an entertaining way. Find a local animal centre and support them, they'll get a lot more done with your money and I'm sure less goes into admin in the smaller places, there's no chain of command. |

Basically i hate PeTA who else does?
I love animals but i just don't like PeTA.
All opinions welcome.
I know i havent stated a reason why. I just wanna know if you like them or hate them.
You don't have to say why, but you can say why if you want.
I will admit that i like some of the things they are trying to achieve, i do like that they want people to stop wearing fur becuase i hate the fur trade and i hate animal cruelty.
Too many people like meat so as much as want it they will naver make the world vegetarians and animals will never stop being eaten as food(as much as i hate to admit it) but the don't deserve to be abused even if they are going die in a slaughterhouse(which is the only thing i agreed with them on in that stupid KFC campaign).
