And forgive me if I am being niave, I am 17. |

But one thing you will have to remember, is the term "celebrity" doesn't actually refer anymore to just being famous. It more then often refers to your "marketability" and, "how well you can move units". User was banned for: The hypocrisy is KILLING me.. (Permanent) |

A ploy can be attention grabbing but still be original. I just feel like originality suffers to please the masses. |

(Just covering my bases there.) Anyway, creativity will always suffer to please the masses, unless it's Mozart. Everybody loved Mozart and it was good. User was banned for: The hypocrisy is KILLING me.. (Permanent) |

Copy Clerk Posts: 89 Joined: 20 Nov 2008 | But why is it that we tend to remember Tiger Woods uses Gillette Razor? (See what I mean?!) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1933 Joined: 1 Jan 2008 | This is a technique used by tabloid rags around the globe. They throw out an insane title, like "Barrack Obama used to work as gigolo?", and then immediately disprove it in the article. The catch? Chances are your not even going to bother reading the article, and only remember the headline, so whenever somebody starts talking about him around the office, you'll pipe in with "You mean the guy that used to be a gigolo?". |

I meant no offence. Rather, I meant for you to not belittle yourself on the basis of age. =) |

Sorry, I guess I am being a Negative Nancy, sorry for bitching. But why is it that we drift towards familarity instead of branching out? Is it something that is in all humans genetically? Or is it a social trait? |

The people around me make so many mistakes, it's like I hardly have to make any to learn something. |

well the simple thing is you see someone you think is great, they say "buy this product" and you go "hmmm well since they like it, then it must be good" so you go out and get it. it's because you think that person is a reliable person. look at the amount of ppl who won't get immunized from disease because Jenny Mccarthy said that it causes autism, nevermind the fact she's not a doctor and her kid was "cured" of a genetic disorder tho there is only one person who can sell a product and here's the proof |

Its instinct, survival instinct to be exact. Imagine this: Tribal times...many, many, strange and new things you have found have turned out to kill your mates in some way or another (usually by trying to rip your face off). Gradually you come to realise most new things will at some point attempt to kill you somehow. So you stick with what you know is safe until you HAVE to change. you are still open minded to change because you know not *everything* will attempt to put you to sleep forever, but most things will. Thats why we choose whats familiar. We know how dangerous they are. |

I have noticed how lately, in the media, things are being thrown out to "attract" our attention. Sex, boobs, and pretty people are being littered about as a ploy to get our attention. Even here, today two of the "Articles of Interest" were "Interested" in something. "OMG Bewbs" and "Sex of Dreams" were the titles. This made me realize how often shallow things are thrown out to grab our attention.
No, not just sex, but another guilty contender is the celebrity cameo. Because Tiger Woods uses a razor, it will imporve my golf game! Flawless, but still, it seems like the more famous the endorser the better the product does.
Has our nation really become so shallow that we will turn any way, that a celebrity or boob points us to? I choose to believe that we are capable of more cognitave thought than just following the last thing we are told by someone rich, or something round.
