I'm cool with everyone in my school, I don't think I know anyone who actually hates me, but I'm always ignored by everyone and I want to be more noticeable to people.

So what about you? How popular are or were you in school? (I used the search button but nothing came up, so please tell me if this has been done before.)

I wasn't terribly popular to be honest, not terribly unpopular either. I was one of those people who was reliable when they needed help with something so they'd call on me for assistance, even if not to just chat and be friendly with. I had a close group of friends though, so it didn't really bother me much.

I was that guy that could hang out just about anywhere without objection, I went to a small school and was well acquainted with just about everyone in my class. Not to say that I was always at parties and shit but, I could basically kick back with anyone. except the wierd emo/goth kids, and the religious nutters.

I have my group of friends, and were more of the outcasts cause we are *big shock* geeks/gamers, and apparently not much of my school plays games. But were not hated and a lot of people like hanging out with us, probably cause we aren't scared to be ourselves, our crazy selves.

I'm like Fonzie!
With my class anyway, don't know about the rest of the school but I don't think anyone really dislikes me.

Sadly, Necroswanson was probably the single most popular person in the school next to our star QB. He was very recognizable, people said he was a character without being convoluted and shallow, and I was able to get along with most everyone.
He certainly wasn't popular because he wore skirts, makeup and dressed up like Ace Freely (sp?) on the first day of Senior year.
He also definitely wasn't popular because a dude once tried to jump him and kicked the dude down the stairs while wearing a skirt and platform boots. No, definitely not.

I'm hated by about half my school because:
1) I'm atheist
2) I support gay marriage

I have a close group of friends though, so I don't really care.

I was the most unpopular kid in primary school. It was horrible. Got picked on every day, never wanted to go outside on breaks because everyone would single me out. I only had one friend and he was just as victimised as I was. It was because of this I didn't trust a single person when I went to highschool.
For a while it felt the same as primary school but there was a difference in that no one was picking on me. Seems people grow out of that in highschool around here and just blatantly shun you when they don't like you.

Around my third year in high school I ditched my glasses for contacts lenses and people liked me a little bit more. I also grew my hair until a ponytail could be made out of it and wore lots of black and all of a sudden I'm a goth. From that moment I was stilled shunned by a lot of people but I did have a very tight group of friends, and we're all different people as in none of us like excactly the same things or everyone wears black and listens to deathmetal or whatever.

Anyway a year ago I cut my hair - in a bit of an emo-ish fashion - and all of a sudden I got liked a whole lot more. Especially by girls. Most preppy people still call me emo but I couldn't care less about them. I actually act along with these pathetic people, and everyone I care about knows who I am and what I'm not. So at the moment I can get along with generally everyone I want to get along with, and most people I can't get along with find me too scary to bother me for too long.

And look where you are today: hanging out with Stormtroopers and fighting the rebel alliance. How did you go so wrong?

I just went to High School, had a few friends, and otherwise tried to ignore the entire popularity contest. People would try their damnedest to try and make me care, but I refused.

When I first arrived at secondry school...I was the lowest of the low. I was biggest freak in school...and now think back on it, with good reason. But manged to become...not popular, but more middle ground. I didn't have any trouble with bullys and so on by the time I left.

In jr. high I was mocked, pretty much the only nerd in the whole school. I took up mountain biking, snowboarding and martial arts to seem less geeky and make friends. (turns out I like mountain biking and taekwon-do, so I still do those). But all my friends felt "fake"
I met more people when I went to high school, a couple of really good guys/gals (and my girlfriend of three years now). We still weren't the "cool crowd" but kept to ourselves and didn't care. After awhile everyone else left us alone or joined us.
It wasn't until I got to university that I met a really good group of people and made a lot of friends. There, most people were a lot more mature and can be friends even if you don't have much in common. So although I spend countless hours playing video games and warhammer, I still have a nice bunch of friends I can go to the bar with at the end of the day.

to be honest all it was was i stopped giving a crap if i was liked or not. all of a sudden i became a new kind of creature

the horribly overconfident and opiniated mess aspect of me is apparently very likeable

I'll give you a real shock, guys. I was very shy through most of my school career, and MARCHING BAND, you know, the dorks with the funny hats, made me cool.

I spent 4 years with those guys, some of the best memories of my life up until this point, its where I met my girlfriend of almost a year and a half, and I actually learned a lot. Plus, we had the change into our uniforms on the bus, and when you're that close to being naked around that many people, all your inhibitions are just GONE!

The weird, nerdy genius-child.
I had dominion over the nerdy, awkward boys!
I guess I was kinda a manipulative jerk, sometimes, but I never realised that I was attractive.
XD I still need to figure out how to apply base and eye shadow.

I wasn't very popular in school. I had some friends but I was very quiet and I ignored many people. I still had lots of fun in school.

It was the best time of my life.

I was a class favorite. Voted "Wittiest in Class", which is a tactful way of labeling the class clown.

I was about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit, as they say...

It's strange, but because I reached 5ft6 by eleven, being taller than everyone else made me a target - the law of the playground is strange indeed. I also took to wearing a trenchcoat and was called Terminator for a long time, which was embarrassing as a girl. I did manage to get the school to collect three huge truckloads of toys for the kids from Chernobyl, so my youth wasn't totally spent hiding in a corner.

I remember prom - five lads asked me to go, the first four were making fun of me, so that by the time the fifth asked, who I incidentally had a HUGE crush on, I thought he was doing the same and told him where to shove it. I was heartbroken when I saw him at prom with a girl wearing tiny glittery hotpants (the girl, not him, that would have been easier to deal with...)

Who here would LOVE to go back to those heady school days with the confidence that you have as an adult and be able to tell all those who were nasty to them to sod off, as they'll end up with seven kids before 30 and a long term career in a fast food chain of their choice...

BTW: Anyone still in school, this IS the happiest time of your life, but its also the time where the real world doesn't count - so called nerds will end up popular because they'll end up loaded, those who "get some" will end up as teenage parents, and you'll never get so much free time off as you do at the moment. Funny how it never seems like the happiest time when you are there, isn't it?

This. All the popular kids in school knew me, but I was never close friends with any of them.

I'm kinda like Death Metal, huge underground support with very little mainstream popularity.

For first and part of second year of high school (not sure what that is in US terms) I was teacher's pet in every class, top of every class and as such extremely unpopular with my so-called "peers".

Halfway through my second year I snapped, refused to go into school any more until they acquiesced to my demands, which were "allow me free reign in which classes I do and don't attend". I spent around nine weeks at home reading until they obtained permission (naturally one of the classes I refused to attend was P.E. which meant some higher-up official had to be consulted because P.E. is a compulsory class until you enter fifth year).

I spent my last two and a half years at school in the "special kids" section, where the aggressive kids were held, since there was nowhere else for me to be held while classes were off. Those years were pretty much teaching experience for me, there were only two adults (teaching assistants usually) present in the room at any time and they were kept busy attempting to maintain some level of non-riot, so the kids who had any interest in doing any work (AKA the kids who'd been promised rewards like computer time once they'd done X problems/questions/pages) would ask me for help. Out of sheer boredom I usually did, depending on how recently the individual in question had last thrown a chair, fist or rock at me.

TL;DR: Substitute teacher, punching bag, token bookworm.

I was fairly popular. I was a guy able to integrate with the different groups in my year. People in the lower years knew about me due to my time on stage at the school shows/stand up and comic routines at Comic Relief.

The American accent helped a bit as well. Girls in Edinburgh LOVE it!

Well, in the old days I was the loudmouth who was an attention seeker and also very gullible and well... stupid, I hung out with the nerdy types and always tried to be the leader and maybe even a bit of a bully. I'm not sure how popular I was, my friends liked me, I suppose that was plenty enough.
But now I'm very much a loner, I barely talk to anyone, don't hang out with anyone, I guess I have a low tolerance for people nowadays (well, stupid people anyway). I only started a month ago but I've grown very popular with the teachers, probably because I'm one of the few who doesn't feel the need to act like a twat most of the time.

I was upin everything, I chilled with every social class. Even won some popularity contests too. Was voted Best smile my last year. Yeah the ladies loved me and so did the guys. I hosted the parties for New Years and I didn't discriminate either, all were welcomed. Some were intimidated I guess. I really liked my High School. College was some of the same, I was the VP of Finances in College and was inmanyschool events. Social butterfly I guess.

I'd say 4 out of 6 people you ask at my school will know me. It's mainly because I come from a tribe of brothers all a year and a half apart, that all are football stars. So I'm usually usually know as the quirky little bro of them. But the best thing I'm known for is the almost offensive title of 'Twitch.' I have Tourettes, and my random tics in class definitely liven things up a bit for the student body =D
