On multiple occasions I've had classmates ask me if I was a new student, even though I had been at the school since I was a freshman, yeah, I wouldn't really be in any particular group, not even the outcasts, I was the guy you didn't even know was there until you were grouped with him in a class project, although I guess if I had any title while in school it would be "that guy who is always reading books".

Best dancer in school.
Consistently got excellent grades without studying too much.
Kinda shy but still talked to most people worth talking with.
Had a nice group of friends.
2nd tallest guy in school.

I'd say fairly popular and in the eyes of most teachers/students, a nice kid who studied as well as enjoyed life and wasn't the usual nerd.

I am 24 now btw.

I'm generally a pretty popular guy, most ppl get along with me once they get to know me. A think it's kinda funny that a group of my closest friends are all Christian while i'm an athiest. I'm also a band kid, so im automatically friends with the 178 ppl in that organization :P. Of course there are a few groups that i share a mutual hatred for...

I have close groups of friends and im cool wiht ewverybody else. I can go pretty much anywhere in the common room and sit and chill with a few friends. Today up town i was saying hi to old and new freinds every 5 minutes.

Everyone knows im a computer nerd but they're cool with as a rarely mention it and can hold an interesting conversation.

I would say I am a freindless nerd. No that doesn't mean I am hated no, I would say I am well liked in my classes. I am known with quite a few girls seeing as how most of my honor classes are 70% girls. And yeah, I am that guy that people go to for help.(Mostly the answers, they could care less about theorems and explanations.)

My defining trait though is: My deep voice. Many people say the bass of my voice is more low-pitch then their dads. >.>

I got on with everyone but was friends with a handful. Partly because, unlike most of the other people in my year group, I had no interest in drinking or partying.

I'm a little like that at uni, only I just have 3 or 4 people I always chat to but I don't know anyone else. Oh and I don't read very much, except from my textbooks and of course the post from the lovely members of the Escapist. :D

I charm all the people I like at my school into being my friends and the rest of them get freaked out by the fact I sing out loud along to my ipod and according to rumour I practise tarot and can curse their souls. I of course have no idea how that got around therefore they avoid me completely so its brilliant

During my senior school years I was very unpopular. Well not so much unpopular just easily overlooked I suppose. Big turnaround at college and Uni though. Made myself lots of new friends and I'd consider myself pretty damn popular now.

Lots of different schools, lots of different attitudes. First school I was popular as hell, but then again, it was a nice school, everyone liked everyone. Second school I was bullied, so, not so much. Third school I was God, literally. I introduced myself as God the first day, and it stuck. That was pretty cool, I made some of my closest friends there as well. Fourth school I was an elitist recluse, but I don't think people minded me that much, they may have considered me a bit weird, but that's okay. I wanted them to.

I wasn't terribly popular to be honest, not terribly unpopular either. I was one of those people who was reliable when they needed help with something so they'd call on me for assistance, even if not to just chat and be friendly with. I had a close group of friends though, so it didn't really bother me much.

This is what I am, although some of the cool kids don't really like me for some unknown reason.

I get around, I hang out with the people considered most popular, and the people considered average to slightly below average in popularity. I really owe it to being myself, I used to be a complete social outcast, the nerdiest kid on the playground. Then I decided one year to give up, and just try and be myself, that "I was behind in the race, and catching up was impossible, so just try and finish." I was just myself, and suddenly, I was up at the top. It was really awesome.

Still can't work up the courage to ask girls out though.

I hang out with a guy who like death metal and is a pyromaniac (spelling?) and another guy who stuters and does homework for fun...he's really nice though.

So i'm ignored about 90% of the time when i'm talking to other people so i don't care for them to much.

Who knows? Someone I was friends with for the first two years of school turned into a massive prick who would go "Weeeirdooooo" whenever he walked past me, even if all I was doing was reading the news.

Same case with me actually.

I honestly have no idea, I'm friends with some well known guys at my school, but I'm annoying as hell, girls like to talk to me, I have a gay friend (well, he says he's gay but we all know he's just acting it), but I'm still annoying as hell.

The main thing though, is that last year at the same school we had a talent show. Since I'm in the school Choir, I'm also known for my extremely low voice (lowest bass in the whole choir) and alot of people really wanted me to sing for the talent show.

Well, I auditioned with Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire and made the spot. I went up, sang the Ring of Fire to everyone, and everyone absolutely loved it.

I have a video of it, but for the life of me I can't be arsed to post it on YouTube and I have no clue how to.

But, to put more emphasis on how low my voice is, people couldn't tell if I was mouthing the words (which some people did in the talent show) or if I was actually singing the song myself. Hell, some teachers in class heard it across the entire school.

Now, even a year later, it's like a crazy internet meme that's plauged the school. Some random guys whom I vaugly recognize will call out my name and say hi and mention Johnny Cash. That's pretty much my second name in school, "Johnny Cash" and sometimes "Jumplion" to my closer friends.

Hell, I use the Johnny Cash thing as bribery sometimes. A few weeks ago, the school was having a sale on something and I was handed the megaphone they were using (I'm a loud speaker) and one person said they would buy whatever they were selling if I sang the Ring of Fire. Frankly, it gets annoying, but nonetheless I sang for them and they bought one.

This year I plan on Elvis Pressly's Hound Dog for this year's talent show.

So I'd say I'm 50/50 on the popularity scale.

It varied from year to year...

Grade 7 (elementary) I was the new kid in school (and town), therefore outcast.
Grade 8, (highschool) everyone was the new kid, so I lost some abuse for one thing, only to become picked on because I was the youngest, while the guy picking on me resented I was two years younger than him yet in the same grade (he was failed a grade).
Grade 9, picked on instead because I wasn't popular in grade 8, and it carries over.
Grade 10 I snapped and ended up in a fight with someone who bullied me, we ended up throwing all the chairs and desks in the classroom at eachother, I injured a teacher and the bully, no more picking on me. Now I'm an outcast because I'm a psychotic. From then on in, anyone trying to pick on me got beat within an inch of their life.
Grade 11, still known as a nutcase, but I was known to insult/mock teachers in class, so now I was the popular wacko.
Grade 12, leader of my own clique (fuck I hate that term though), and one of the most respected kids in the highschool. Partially because anyone who fucked with me got shitkicked, partially because I had admin control over the school network and could set the library PCs to run LAN games at lunch while the lunch supervisors were all friends and would overlook such games, and largely because I had access to teacher files and could modify grades of friends/foes.

Well to be perfectly honest with you I'm probably one of the most unpopular kids in my high school. Not because I'm not pretty or weird or whatever but because I suffer from a severe case of introversion, it's just my personality.
I'm that kid that always knows the answer to the teachers question but never speaks up. But when I do speak up I'm terribly cynical, oh sure I have a little group of friends who doesn't?

For 10 years i was the leading star in the bullies' lunchbreak entertainment. It made me hide behind books and computers, and the lack of proper social interaction with other kids have made me quite anti-social. And the only comfort i had was that there is at least one in each class who has to be a target for the assholes to whom the assholes can "prove" that they are better than anyone else. Unfortunately that choosen was to be me.
In college suddenly all picking stopped, and i soon regained a lot of my self-assurance back, but i am still way behind on social skills. And i wondered where all the bullies went. Maybe they grew out of it?

No, they didn't. As i was conscripted into the military, i found that they hadn't grown out of it, they just switched hunting grounds and targets. A small guy was choosen as target because he was such an easy target, and was from day 60 of our military service to become the subject of jokes, backtalk and general hate-talk.

I tried my best to stop this tragic comedy. It was unstoppable, as the rest of the troop had the stupid idea that "words can do no harm" and that the asshole was quite entertaining when back-talking the victim. I tried confronting the asshole about why. His reasoning? The victim deserved it because of how he talked, dressed and acted. I tried reasoning; the victims dialect or dress code does in no way affect him, and he therefor had no reason for being an asshole. He didn't get it.

Anyway, we finished the year without any "accidents" (but you better believe it, I would NEVER had shed a tear if the asshole fell of a cliff or something), and i was an experience wiser to the why and how of bullies.

Iv'e formed a theory on bullies: they have a constant need to prove to other people that they are better than everyone else. And the best way, do they believe, to prove their worth, is to prove anothers un-worth. The lower down a bully can kick a victim in the eyes of other people, the higher up the bully seems in relasjon.

And the bulles have years of training in making the general population believe the lies them tell about victims. It is almost undetectable, but he starts of with a few harmless jokes to get the laughter rolling. Then follows up with less-and-less funnier stuff, which is more and more obviously lies (but which can in the aftermath be proven to be "just harmless fun" so it is difficult to use against them), but the listener are on a laugh-roll, and at the same time empowered by their friends laughs... It is weird hearing people telling other people about how they want to physically damage a person just because of the way the talks, and people laughing at it.

Well, i have invested a lot of thought in this topic. The why and how. And the question about popularity in school got me on a roll, outputting all the result of my thinking. Today i live free, have good and trusty friends, and look back on my school-years as the darkest years of my life, my own personal hell.

And a last tip: if you find yourself picked on, find a thing you dont care that they pick on you about, and make yourself a target too easily pick on, and they will soon grow tired of picking on you. Of course, you will get to get known as (insert 'fakely exposed weakness' here) but it is better to chose ones own nickname instead of letting your enemy chose a nickname for you...

I always figured on the title "If you can't beat em, beat them", and have the cover look like something out of Reservoir Dogs.

I'm known as the studious type. Whenever there was a project at college, I was the one who was always voted as the leader. That's really far from the truth. I only flip notes and read books when an exam is near.

I once did a group research paper on my own. On another instance I did the Assembly Language problems (another group project) again, on my own. Luckily that one was a little simpler. Being a tank IRL really IS rewarding. Gave me a great feeling when it was all over.

Looking back, I think it's because I always showed initiative that I have been branded as such.

I'm not sure what I am...
I'm not very popular though...

I'm like a class clown of some sort.
People find me amusing, they laugh both at me and with me.
I'm not really disliked, but I'm not really liked either.
A good majority of people ignore me, few take me seriously.
The ones who do take me seriously, sometimes become good friends with me.
I become friends with some who don't take me seriously as well, although I talk behind their backs.

I'm in the middle but in a weird way. Everyone seems to know me, even people I've never talked to. Though I am hated by a few people, a lot seem to like me a lot for some random reason.

Nerdy as hell though so I think I'm doing pretty good.

In primary school I was 'the Fat Kid', so I got teased a lot for it. My only friend was an Indian boy who was just a ostracized as me, but he was cool. I got two more friends in my final year of primary school, who were both from different countries and fat (FAT POWER! *raises fist in air) In the holiday between primary school and high school me and my family went on a trip around the world and I lost my excess weight on that trip.

In high school everyone notices me more cause I am 'the ex-fat kid'. But high school was a lot better than primary school for me. I am like a friendly acquaintance to everyone, and most of them know me by my first name. I am more of a friend than acquaintance to all the "lower casts", I liked them more because they seem more real, whereas when I was talking to the "higher casts" it was like being in the O.C. or some crap like that.

I have a tight group of very close friends so whether everyone else likes me or not doesn't really matter to me.

In highschool I didn't give a fuck about anybody, so I wasn't "popular" but people who knew me still liked me.

I was an introvert clear through junior year of high school. I had a few friends, but I wasn't "popular" by any means. I normally sat in the back of class with a book and minded my own business. Junior year it kind of changed, and I had more friends, so I came out of my shell.
