Gone Gonzo Posts: 1221 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | I love it. Having the house all to myself, and having the aforementioned freedom to do what I want (within reason). I get to eat what I want when I want. Also, I prefer the food I cook to that of my mother. Being home alone gives me the opportunity to take care of such responsibilities as doing laundry, taking out the recycling, doing dishes, grocery shopping, and of course cooking my own (awesome) food. Can't wait 'till I move out on my own next year. |

Press Junketeer Posts: 400 Joined: 1 Nov 2008 | I live with my kitty Bridget, and love it. I've lived with a family (father and sister), in a hostel (four people to a section, four sections, plus staff), alone (i.e. minus kitty) and with a friend while the hostel was getting sorted. Of them all I prefer living with Bridget. I get to do what I want and he doesn't care, all he wants is to sit in my lap and be petted. Of course I get dead legs all the time from not moving them for so long, but it's worth it to keep my widdle pwecious comfortable. I've never understood why people would want to live with someone else permanently. I mean assuming I liked company in the meat world I'd still prefer to live without other people around and just go out when I wanted company. |

Well lets see here. Cost is the biggest one. Paying half for many things means more money in the pocket. If your roommate is a friend like mine is, as two gamers, it's much easier to find someone to multiplayer with. And it's just comforting to have someone else in the house at times. My roomie has only been gone three and a bit days, and I'm already talking to myself, a sure sign of going insane. Not to confuse that with me talking to my stuffed animals, that's not insanity, that's just me. Some people talk to God, some people talk to their dead loved ones, I talk to my stuffed animals. So long as they speak to me, it's all good. Where was I? Oh yeah, having a roommate or someone else living with you means that you have less chores to do around the house, or at least it means that in theory. Also, with someone else in the house, your zombie survival odds increase. Either because that's two competent defenders, or because you have a brainless sap to throw at the zombies to buy time. But most importantly, it's someone else to help you hide the bodies of those who pissed you off. |

Its like you can do what you want, you know like: start a fire, play games without interruptions, get online [porn][... jk][...], and you know all the fun stuff! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3617 Joined: 7 Aug 2008 | I remember being left home alone once (only for about 5 minutes) when I was about 5. Having seen Star Wars:The Phantom Menace, I was petrified Darth Maul was going to walk through my living room door, and stab me. Needless to say I hid behind a sofa, and made a small food offering to a tiny bust of Darth Maul I had "won" out a box of cereal. |

However, I'm unsure whether I'd like to share half of my provisions with what's at best cannon fodder. Besides which, if it came to a zombie invasion, I'd be too paranoid to sleep for fear of him suffocating me with a pillow to have the food for himself. Plus, I like to walk around naked. It wouldn't be so bad if I lived with a partner but a friend or roommate wouldn't appreciate it. |
Muckraker Posts: 248 Joined: 15 Sep 2008 | I like being home alone, I can pretty much do whatever I feel like without family members pestering me. I can watch a film or play a game without interuption or listen to music without feeling concious of how loud it is...or how bad my singing is. Although I tend to get bored kinda quickly and find myself after about 4 hours aimlessly floating about the house trying to find something to do. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 602 Joined: 8 Nov 2008 | I love being home alone. The TV and DVD player are in the living room and my mom's boyfriend is french so most of the time iI can't listen to the real voices of my favorite actors. But when I'm home alone I can, I can watch my favorite movies and I don't have to worry about anyone asking "Can you turn it down?" or "Wait who is this guy?" When I'm not watching a movie I generally enjoy reading or listening to music while I'm home alone. Listening to music gets better when you're home alone since you don't have to think about anything except the music. You can let yourself get absorbed by it completely. It's a brilliant thing to soak in music with nothing to think about. Reading the book when home alone is pretty much calmness incarnate. So here's a cheer for being home alone!!! |

Muckraker Posts: 320 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | I love it. My family drive me nuts sometimes which i usually end up closing my door from civilisation and listen to music. When everyones gone however, i can finaly relax, kick back in the sofa and watch Mythbusters or get on the computer and google..stuff. Plus i can also sit around in my undies/nude and play Guitar Hero or something. Yep. Can't wait to move out |

What the hell, I'll use this post to introduce my next point. So most of us seem to enjoy being home alone - all the additional freedom and the lack of irritation and annoyance can really only be a good thing. BUT, now I ask you this: Would you want to live alone? Personally, I often feel this way. Have complete freedom and control over a physical living space. Sounds a little creepy, I know, but honestly I often look forward to the future when I can own my own house/apartment and not have to share it with anyone. Discuss. |
