So it seems we have a fair few Discworld fans in these forums. Having just watched Colour of Magic (only just released on DVD here) and having already seen The Hogfather thoughts turned to which of the extensive number of books should be made next.

I am for Sourcery as this is probably my favourite book.

Well, since they've already done both a Death one and a Rincewind one, my vote goes to a Watch 'movie'.

They should do them in order, so the light fantastic should come next.

The Light Fantastic was done as part of The Colour of Magic; it was done in two parts.

They should only make another one if they can actually do justice to Terry Pratchetts vision as while the Hogfather was ok the colour of magic was not. But if they did do another one I think one of the city watch stories would translate best over to a movie. I also just want to see how Vimes would be portrayed

Guardsman movie, of course. Guards Guards is the logical choice for the next film as it requires no pre-knowledge, deviates from the previous two and includes the main man himself Samuel Vimes.

Also, dragons.

Witches should remain books, as you would lose far too much of what made them special adapting them to cinema.

Provided they don't make Vimes into a superhero and rape the concept of of the character then i'll be happy. Portray Vimes right and i'll forgive any other transgression.

Also, Vetinari. Screw him up and i will burn down your village.

Well rumours floating around the Discworld forums seem to suggest that Going Postal was touted as the next movie during pre release press events for Colour Of Magic.

You didn't like the Wyrd Sisters cartoon then?

Nightwatch, pure and simple.

It's gotta be the city watch. I think Vimes, Nobby and Colon would translate so well onto the screen...

Guards! Guards!

And we can have a pre-filming bastard-off between Alan Rickman and Jeremy Irons for who gets to be Vetinari.

We need one of the City Watch books next. As stated above, Nightwatch would be a really good choice.

That said, I think Men At Arms or Guards Guards are better choices, as they have already been made into plays.

I'd love to see the City Watch stories turned into a long running TV series. They can take it and evolve along the lines of the books but with the flexibility of 40 minute episodes. Season one can start with the Night Watch and Vimes as the bottom of the barrel, and then slowly progress it through their numerous advancements.

Can I get a hell yeah?

Either that or don't take any specifics from the books, and do it as a police procedural show set in the later period of the Watch, so there are plenty of characters to focus on for episodes. AMPD Bronze, as it were.

Nah, Interesting Times was the best Rincewind novel.

Three guesses what I chose.

I would like a movie about the City Watch. Some of the most enchanting characters there but there are doubts to whether the producers wold not remain faithful to the source material.
I would like to be proven wrong.
Really, I would.

Death Trilogy or house-burning, movie producers. You decide.

City watch definately... as they already have plays, it shouldnt be much work to turn them into working film scripts! (And hopefully they'll be a bit better)

Just please don't use David Jason again. He upstaged death in Hogfather, and using him as rincewind was just poor. :/ I would have thought they wouldnt need that kind of "celeb" appeal. Though I guess they wanted the mass market on it.

I vote Small Gods, and give it to Pixar, since they probably could pull it off.

Anything with Death. He is probably my fav character. A Grim Reaper that takes a liking to humans...

I thought Hogfather was very good, but the Colour of Magic failed a bit in my eyes. They cut too much out. Hogfather was 2 films for 1 story. Colour of Magic was 2 stories in 2 movies, so they just cut out too much that was needed. Plus Death obviously had to be re-written as he was a bit of an arse in the first few books :P

Whatever they do, they should carefully choose actors for each role and cut out as little as possible. If they do that, it doesn't matter which book they do, it will be awesome none the less.

I voted Watch, but let's not say *next* because those weren't Discworld films. They were bad. And made-for-tv movies aren't films, they are TV. And David Jason can get one done.

I wanted to hate David Jason as Rincewind, but I pretty much forgot it was him after a while, he wasn't great, or an abvious choice, but I think he did fine.

As for Alan Rickman, I'd happily take him on as Patrician, but I'm just as happy with Jeremy Irons, he did a sterling job for the few minutes of screen time he had.

I'm throwing another vote to the City Watch, if they could pull off Jingo it would be a miracle, tho there's maybe big battle scenes that need to be pulled off that might be tricky, although I'm sure they could CGI some background crowds.

Also I'm very much a fan of the Moist Von Lipwig books, being 'city' tales too.

Of course, Jingo, anti war
Going Postal, free speech

Maybe two subjects not popular right now, although I'd love to see either done, tho I admit it's a huge jump from Colour of Magic to there, and I'd be happy if they made a movie for every one before they got to Making Money.

Still thoroughly gutted about the news of Pratchett's Alsheimers, and knowing we've maybe only got one or two books left. I really wanted to love 'Nation' but while I enjoyed it, it's not Discworld.

If you want more Pratchett, the radio plays tend to crop up on BBC radio 7 every now and then too.

Guards! Guards!, of course. It's perfect. It should be that or Night Watch, which is my favourite Discworld book by a long shot. I'm interested to see who'll play Pratchett's greatest creation, Sir Samuel Vimes (though no-one will be as good as John Wood in the radio adaptation of Guards! Guards!).

Admittedly, all of them would be good. Mort deserves a big screen adaptation, but then so does Night Watch.
