Mr. Squirrel:
Ayreon, don't know if any of you guys know it but, I think it is great. It is like a prog metal-ish rock-opera, and every album features at least one of my favorite singers. Seeing as there are a lot of Opeth fans here M. Akerfeld also sings on one of their albums.

how did I forget Ayreon I got hooked on 01011001 and have not looked back absolutely epic music

Weezer and Dream Theater. I also got into Metallica properly this year, although I knew about them, of course.

Although I knew about them, I only really got into Rammstein this year (this month, to be exact). Now I think they're great.
Also, Beneath The Massacre, Prototype, MSC, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Pendulum to name a few.

Rise Against.

notyouraveragejoe:
Hmm I'd say despite the fact he (okay not a band but a musical artist) is nothing like what I usually listen to Mike Doughty. I heard I Hear The Bells and loved it. Also Story Of The Year...my friend introduced me to them over summer and I got addicted to the song Anthem Of Our Dying Day.

Story of the Year is really cool. From my neck of the woods. Not very often that I get to say that about famous people/bands

I've loved Avenged Sevenfold for a few years, but I only just started to listen to Disturbed a few months ago, and haven't stopped. They're my favourite band :)

In 2008, I discovered

William Elliott Whitmore (think old-time, with banjo, but better than it sounds. If you hate that music, I guarantee you'll like this guy.) The video is just a clip of a song, but listen to everything he's done. Please. You'll thank me.

Rodrigo y Gabriela (super fast, super crazy classical guitar. That's it. That's all they do. And it's amazing.)

Diana Krall (smokey-sounding jazz)

Nick Drake (waay old acoustic guitar. Think... predecesor to Damien Rice.)

It makes me really happy to see more people discovering the awesome that is Muse...

Don't worry, Jerious. I won't tell any of your friends and ruin your indie cred. ;)

I thought all 21st Century music sucked, until I heard MGMT's psychedelic blend of electro and art rock. Btw, what's with Rammstein, I noticed a few of you got into them. I've loved them in every way since 1998, but lately I've been especially addicted to their songs!

Oops. Forgot Head Like a Hole. Great NZ band that I only found out about recently. I am hoping to go the "Homegrown" concert where they will be performing. Blindspott are there too!

zen5887:

and the one i am most grateful for Amiina.

<3

Kurr is one of my favorite albums. Love that group so much.

zen5887:

So in 2008 I found Miles Davis and Opeth - I should just stop looking for music, nothing will ever live up to this.

I think Miles is one of the greatest musical minds to ever grace this Earth, however, Charles Mingus begs to differ. Look up his music, it's different than Miles' style for sure, and each I credit as brilliant for differing reasons. Yet, I was certain that I would never find a Jazz musician I prefer over Miles until I really analyzed Mingus' music. Start with Mingus Ah Um or Mingus Mingus Mingus.
Enjoy.

I never really thought much of Opeth, honestly. My Prog Metal gods have always been Pain of Salvation.

Simian Mobile Disco.
I recently had an old friend visit me at uni, and he brought his very sexy 160gb iPod, which I promptly took all the music off of.

I can't get enough Simian. Also Justice, similar sort of thing.
