seeing that so many on the escapist have read watchmen, i just wondered how many of you read comic books...

and what publisher is you're favorite?

personally, i think marvel is doing a much better job than DC at the moment. Final crisis is a mess that you cant make heads or tails of and marvel have much better titles running atm.

I used to when I was younger, but now...

The writing just seems to have gone to hell, you know?

Though I do want to read Watchmen before the movie arrives.

To answer the original question, I would have to say Marvel. I could care less for all things DC that aren't Batman.

DC have been flopping for a long time now, marvel attracts more new readers and make better titles.

but.....theres one thing i cant forgive marvel for: attaching Jeph Loeb to continue the Ultimates series, hes the most over-rated writer in history, and he sucks!

I have read a few, don't follow any. Been meaning to buy some Hellboy ones though.

I am a huge Wolverine fanboy. The problem I find with trying to follow comic series' in this day and age is that there is just so much out there. Reading age of Apocalypse was amazing, but there was so much reference to previous comics required. As such I used to buy mainly stand alone and small series graphic novels focussing on Wolverine such as Wolverine Origins, Wolverine: The End, Soultaker etc.

Thus my preference is Marvel, but I can't fault Batman of the DC.Superman is my main qualm with DC comics.

theres only 1 superman title that interests me: All-star Superman. all the other DC titles fail.

I've been reading Avengers: The Initiative, but I might switch over to the New Warriors now that all the cool heroes either graduated or joined the New Warriors.

I only read the dark comics though.

You are missing only ultimate marvel. It is like marvel but without the suck.

I got all the She-Hulk comics on my PC, I have a crush on her.

Heavy Metal and Spawn comics I also read a lot.

For a long period of my life, I have been into French/belgian comics (Especially Tardi, jodorowsky/Moebius, Franquin etc.) as well as some donald duck (Mainly by Don Rosa or Carl Barks)

Recently I have started to appreciate "american" (how I regard it ;)) comics, mostly published by Vertigo (DMZ, 100 Bullets and Preacher). I have

No love for super-hero comics really, though I have recently been mellowed up a bit by Warren Ellis' "Black Summer".

Oh and "Akira". The (epic) comic that marked my transition from donald duck comics into "adult" comics. Can't really say how much I love that one.

I read 2000AD every week, plus the occasional Manga/Dark Horse comic whilst avoiding Marvel and DC like the plague.

Both, although Marvel more so, have such a prescribed art direction that every comic I've ever seen from them looks, well, dull to be honest. Everything has to be done their way, with approval from upstairs first, it makes both the artwork and plotlines seem very stale.

Or to put it another way, Hell Boy, Ten seconders and A.B.C Warriors would never have made it to the pages of a Marvel or DC book.

Isn't there anyone out here with love for the Belgian/Euro comics?

I've been reading Watchmen, and I'm trying to find the Sin City books.

I'm mostly a fan of DC, but although I do like Captain America.

Started buying Graphic Novels again, but gave up on comics years ago, due to the repitition of the stories.

Admiteddly I did read a lot of Marvel / DC /Image stuff and rarely took much of risk.

Oh yeah, and some of the 2000AD stuff was phenominal.

I tend to read more things by vertigo or almost anything from 2000AD, just for the wicked sense of humor half the time. I guess 2000 AD is too british for it to spread far and appeal to as many audiences as american comics. I'm getting into the wildstorm comics as well, which seem quite a lot like marvel, only they like to take chances ;)

Of the 'big two' I prefer DC, only ever having really gone for spider man from marvel. I tried x-men but then realised I had 25 years plus to catch up on and just backed away. Oddly most marvel comics just seem a bit stupid to me at times, though I do like how at the moment how they are linking the whole universe together.

That DC comics is currently running on several different time lines, most being of world threatening proportions that revolve around certain characters kind of dilutes final crisis for me. Whatever happened to a plot running through all the mainstream titles? Oh and batman RIP is a bit of a mess what with it conflicting with several of its OWN titles, yet still running them under the same RIP series. Very annoying :(

Yet despite that booster gold/justice society/action comics make up for it and make me love DC regardless. Oh and ambush bug. God damn its confusing for someone who doesn't have as much of a knowledge of the DCU as I do, but so very rewarding.

OT: the ultimate marvel universe started out as a plethora of good titles, then ultimate X men, fantastic four and spider man begun to go down-hill and the only thing left that i still read was the Ultimates, then mark millar and bryan hitch were switched out with jeph loeb (over-rated) and the horrendously-bad drawer Joe madueira.

I read a lot of comics, but honestly you have to shift though a lot of shit to get to the good comics.

Whos my faviourt Publisher?...If you'd asked me 4 months ago I would have said Marvel with out a doubt. But then I realised that DC isn't just superman and batman, its so, so much more than marvel can ever be, you just have to dig deep, go back in time to the 80s. There, you'll find Swamp Thing, Sandman, Hellblazer, Watchmen, and so many more. Though I do like the ultimate comics, comparing Sandman to Ultimate Spiderman is like comparing Fight Club to Hollyoaks.

I like just about anything. The only thing is that it pisses me off when they kill a character and then bring them back. Example: When Colossus died curing the Legacy Virus.

I had most of my access to marvel stuff from 90's cartoons of Iron man, The X-men, hulk, fantastic 4, spiderman, etc

I have never read an actual physical comic book in my life but I enjoy reading, watching and hearing about them. The Marvel Comics films are some of my favourites.

Lol. 90s Spiderman anyone? Uuuugh. I think modern comics publishers are realizing what storytellers realized thousands of years ago: people come for cool stories with familiar characters. They don't need full psychological rationale or a codified story arch. Look at old mythology. The characters and their personalities were consistent, but things didn't always go in the same order. And that was okay. The characters and stories count more.

Besides, if you want 40 years of uninterrupted continuity, there's always Star Trek.

...At least until that new movie comes out. Way to ruin it, Abrams.
