I shook my head in disgust that a store employee was trampled to DEATH in Long Island by the crowds. How horrible.

Other then that, I drove to visit family. It was nice.

I to shook my head in shame at the DB's who trampled the walmart employee. Then sat more stunned when i learned that two more people had died at Toys-R-Us in roughly the same way.

Other than that i played through the Force Unleashed on the 360.

If i lived in America, i doubt i'd ever go out on Black Friday!

I can't honestly see how the prices are that much different to what you'd find on the interwibble the rest of the year

Indeed.

As for me, I spent the whole day in a car, as my family and I were driving home from Thanksgiving in Nebraska (I hate Nebraska).

Sat home and played video games. My friend tried to tease me about not taking advantage of the bargains and I told him he was acting like a girl for talking about shopping. He got an iPhone. I'm sort of jealous.

I stayed in a tent in 3 place of line in front of Best Buy with my first love and ex, and then my other ex who I'd been friends with for years, along with my best friend, my second ex's mom, and her uncle. 8/

Surprisingly, nothing was awkward.

Oh, and we went exploring some old maintenance / sewer tunnels while we waited.

Is Black Friday an American thing? Because I'm from England, and I haven't a clue what it is.

Day after thanksgiving where stores cut huge amounts of money off thier prices. Many people go buy electronics such as tv's or game systems/labtops b/c they tend to be like 1/2 off. Also very popular for general x-mas shopping because of all the price cuts. Stores open around like 5 and lines form 2-3 hours before hand but i have waited in a line for 12+hrs for a 55inch plasma marked from 1300 down to 300 bucks for the 1st 5 customers. Its insane and yes people do die.

Ahem.
I'm guessing this be is an American thing, we don't do crazy shopping to the same extent here in England. Very often.

Edit: Oh right. Fair enough. I'd probably go shopping if stuff was that cheap. And I hate shopping.

I worked retail that day, it was sort of fun actually. Other than the 4X the foot traffic.

We were discussing this at my work earlier... Did the walmart even close? That's the least they can do for the death of an employee... I heard that after paramedics arrived and were trying to resuscitate the employee, they were knocked around by people rushing into them and not caring as well... Ridiculous

It's an unofficial retail holiday that marks the beginning of holiday sales with arguably some of the best deals of the year. It's named "Black" Friday because it's the day when many retail stores when from being "in the red", or making a net loss, to being "in the black", making a net profit. It is also, apart from Christmas Eve, the worst day to go holiday shopping, becaue every store is literally mobbed, to the point where several people are trampled each year.

Personally, I had a second Thanksgiving with my Dad, after spending the first with my Mom.

Heh, I mentioned black friday a week or two ago to someone and a coworker overheard me. He thought I was being racist. I might've made it worse when I went along with it and told him it was my white supremacist group's day of thanks. I wonder if I have some paperwork waiting on me to sign when I go in this weekend..

Edit: And I sat around being lazy, I think. I really don't even remember now. Probably sat around, though.

Having been in England on Boxing day, i can say you also have a shopping frenzy that's similar (but only half as bad as) black friday in MOST areas of the USA. So if you wonder what its like in most sane, rational areas of the country, think of boxing day but about two times as many people.

BF though always has one story like this every year, and it's almost always at a Wal*Mart, which usually don't attract the highest caliber people to start with.

Still extremely ridiculous... Can't believe they wouldn't kick everyone in out, it was their fault after all...

Yes, it's the Walmart's fault for not having a cast iron portcullis to prevent people from breaking down the doors when the maintenance guy starts to open them. I don't think you understand just how big this mob was.

Walmart could have done a better job of controlling the group while they were still outside. Best Buy forces everyone to stand in a line to get in while at the Walmart, everyone was pretty much just pressed up against the glass waiting to get in. Also, I heard that the police will be reviewing the security camera footage so that they can charge some of the people responsible.

I was there. Glad to see the Hub of Hockey back on top.

Were I at home, I probably would have been watching movies in a zombie-like state or playing Fallout 3/Left 4 Dead. That's a lot of zombie references...

Hid. I hid, and cowered.

Oh, and I drove back to my college town to work that night. Thankfully, not in retail.

I yelled at America (This was carried out by me yelling at the ground) for having such a stupid "tradition" that sees people dying every year.
Christmas, the only time where it's acceptable to 1: Drink and drive, and 2: Kill a man. I swear we need to have the government regulate Black Friday to non-existent.
Also, I played D&D.

Not just ridiculous, but an incentive for fanatical shoppers to purposely trample the shit out of people.
