I'm not sure how many people here at the escapist go to "wild parties" or night clubs, but I'm sure everyone here has heard of Daft Punk. Now, while I do know quite a few people who hadn't heard, they were soon informed by me and they fell in love. So, what does everyone think of Daft Punk? Personally, I think they're gods in robot suits making techno music for the masses. If you do like Daft Punk, name your favorite song of theirs. If you don't like them, talk about why. Please try not to provide any generic answers.

They are pretty exceptional for two French blokes dressed up like c3po and Iron Man. Love aerodynamic, especially the tapping solo/riff thing.

They are pretty good. I've seen them live countless times (raver since '96), and each time they've put in a decent performace.

My favorite live DJ is either Dave Clarke or Carl Cox...

I've been recently getting into more techno, but I can't find myself getting into Daft Punk. They're too slow for my tastes.

My favorite songs are probably Aerodynamic and Harder although I guess technologic deserves some credit. It's so simplistic yet so great.

Its more funky than your avarage techno. And I do like the funk.

Daft Punk isn't really "techno" or trance. It's "House" =) They were part of the house movement over in europe, something that didn't happen in the us.

Daft Punk at wild parties or nightclubs? Its a bit slow isn't it? From what I've seen it only gets played in the hours between 7pm and 9pm or as a request (yes I am that much of a stopout that I'll be at a bar/nightclub from around 6pm till closing time (3-4am).

Ditto, but sans they suffix. My favourite is television. The bass just makes people fall over.
That or aerodynamic.

Have you been to one of their shows? It topped my 'act's to see' list after I got Alive. Bloody brilliant. I missed them as I was in France just after they'd done their dates there.

I 'quite like' them, in the way I like a lot of dance music that you couldn't really dance to.

Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Bentley Rhythm Ace etc. BRA in particular deserved to be bigger, they embraced the idea that dance music can be fun!

They're pretty cool, but I have other bands I like better.

Maybe it's because I saw them right after Tiesto, but they were just sorta average, and kind of annoying at times.

To use the interweb vernacular; win.
Anyway, my favourite track changes from day to day, but I'm loving the Brainwasher at the moment, and Track 5 on Alive where Steam Machine turns into Harder Better Faster Stronger via Around the World. It's awesome.

Although having said all that, I do prefer some of Pendulum's more techy songs. Some of the 'pure' drum and base ones just hurt my head.

"Digital Love" is one of my favorite pop songs of the last decade. Also, they put on a pretty good show :)

True, but I don't think it's even possible to count how many people request Daft Punk songs. Oh, and have you ever been to or seen Alive? If that wasn't 100% pure awesome, I don't know what is.

*starts listening to Too Long* I'm just gonna sit back and get some work done :) Daft Punk has a song for just about everything you can think of (except for fancy dinner parties).

Also the fact that Daft Punk are house and not techno is confirmed by their wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daft_punk

wiki on house music:
House music is strongly influenced by elements of soul- and funk-infused varieties of disco. House music generally mimics disco's percussion, especially the use of a prominent bass drum on every beat, but may feature a prominent synthesizer bassline, electronic drums, electronic effects, funk and pop samples, and reverb- or delay-enhanced vocals.

sounds about right no?
