Deicide or for that matter, any other death metal and grindcore act that tries to emphasize "Sheer brutality" over song structure and emotion. Death was phenomenal, Morbid Angel was good, but Deicide is just horrible.

I also wish that the majority of these "Neo-Symphonic Power Metal" bands coming from Norway, Finland, and Sweden would learn how to effectively play without having the keyboard become a second guitar (Unless of course, you are as skilled Warmen is). Not that a good amount of these bands aren't talented and I don't love it, however I am just seeing a lack of originality in some key areas.

opeth is a band I have repeatedly tried and tried to get into as they are one of the more respected and loved metal bands but I just don't get it I can't even get though a full cd

on another note I can't stand bands that focus on Sheer brutality or being "evil" over actual music capability though all those "evil" Norwegian black metal bands do provide me with great amusement when they get all dressed up for their photo shoots

I typically enjoy a lot of electronica/dance/trance. That being said, I've been have a lot of trouble getting down with Prodigy when stacked up against Chemical Borthers or Crystal Method. Seems Prodigy lyrics are very angry and repetitive lately. Their most recent 'Ivanders Must Die' video is very...um...I don't know...I was lost and then thinking it was stupid.

Children of Bodom.

I honestly try to enjoy them, but it's impossible with that damn keyboard and annoying vocalist.

Bedouin Soundclash. I've kind of warmed up to them, but I just don't really like their singer.

I'm a fan of post-rock, but I find a lot of post-rock bands to be really unremarkable, repetitive, and boring, which isn't a groundbreaking statement. A lot of people seem to disagree with my opinion that Mogwai is one of these bands.

Agreed. Prodigy was GREAT back in the early-mid 90's, but they just lost the plot I think. Also, everyone raved about Mindless Self Indulgence, and I just couldn't get into them. It was fun to listen to once, but good lord, don't make me listen to it again!!!

I agree the new Prodigy track is awful but Music For The Jilted Generation is one of my favourite albums ever, it's a shame they're trying to sound like fucking Pendulum.

Anyway, bands in genres that I like that I just don't get: DJ Sharpnel (speedcore), The Smiths (indie), pretty much every artist on Anticon (hip hop), Scooter (jumpstyle), Satyricon and Gorgoroth (black metal), Metallica (thrash metal)

I would like to state the fact that S.O.D >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Slayer >>>>> Metallica.

Well, I like metal, but I find that most metal bands are either hit-or-miss. For example, I love All That Remains, but Acid Bath is crap. As for the techno scene, the songs are so varied, it's not all that easy to say. I will say though, that I can't get into Daft Punk.

Hmmm Cradle of Filth are a band I not only dont like but hate with a firey passion I normally reserve for plastic pop. In fact I would rather pay to watch the Jonas Brothers covering "Dark side of the moon" than see Cradle for free

So it's not just me then?

I also can not listen to In Flames. I have been preached at by my friends to listen to just how "BRUTAL" and "KICK ASS" they are, but the songs I've heard sound like a dog draped in bubble wrap trying to escape from an overturned rubbish bin. Can not get away with them at all.

Cradle Of Filth are pretty much a plastic pop band, they're metal for 13 year old girls with loads of acne who get bullied all the time.

Er, I have to somewhat disagree. Within its prospective genre, which is Melodic Death Metal, they are one of the best bands I have ever heard :)

If you don't like the genre, you won't like that band though.

I remember when I was a young metalhead trying to fit in, and I liked Dimmu Borgir but not other, more 'underground' black metal. I never told anyone.

I was right though - most of those bands just suck. Cradle of Filth is a pretty good example itself.

Right now, finding myself liking older music, I just don't really think Elvis was that great. Am I going to get stabbed in the throat now?

Meh that underground stuff can be terrible you're right there.

Mainstream metal isn't bad!!

Just because its mainstream does not point to lack of talent! (Not all times but hey)

Ive tried very hard to enjoy The Killers and The White Stripes, but I just cant get into them.

I also hate Tool. In fact I like the name of that band because it requires people who enjoy that music to wear clothes that label them for what they are...

I enjoy most types of music but I cannot stand death metal, some female pop and screamo music.

Dangit, I've been trying to get into Ashley Tisdale, but there's no way she's anything like a Vanessa Hudgens! That said I do enjoy a tincy bit of Jonas Brothers in their early days for some rockin' out, yet I'll never listen to the conformist "music" they do now.

I have never in my life been able to get into Led Zeppelin. I love classic rock, but LedZep always seems to go for musical complexity for its own sake to the point where even their straightforward rock 'n' roll just doesn't work for me.

Although I love black metal in general and Dissection in particular, Watain plain sucks. Their songs lack any coherent structure jumping from awesome riffs to horrible ones (quality divided equally, and there's never a middle ground) making it seem more like they are playing a meddle of different bands rather than actual songs. I know Watain is often compared to the far superior Dissection, and I can see the resemblence in certain areas, but I still can't get into them. To top it off, I think their singer sounds silly, like a rebellious teenager who joins a satanic band to punish his ma.

Slayer. It's probably because by that time, I've been listening to far too many thrash and death metal bands to fully appreciate it.

Also, I can't stand Children of Bodom. I like the guitars, I like the keyboards, but I just could not stand Avril Laiho's voice. I didn't like his growls and that coupled with C.O.B.'s lyrics just ruined the it for me.

Then, there was Darkthrone...
More specifically their album, Transilvanian Hunger.

My fellow Überkvlt black metal enthusiasts can go lick donkey balls if they tell me this is one of the best black metal albums ever made. No.
And this is not hype backlash. I listened to it when I was 13, just barely getting into Black Metal. I saw it in a store with no prior knowledge and I thought "What a kewl album cover!" and I bought it. I listened, I cringed, and I felt guilty for making my parents pay for that piece of rubbish. Then my friends started talking to me about the album. It was praised all around, touted as "pure raw blakkh metuls" and I felt kind of sad because I might have missed out on something. I finally listened to it again two years later where I had attained a competent level of taste for the genre. Most notable was my affinity for the band Burzum, but even then, what I heard was still a piece of sonic shit. Even if I listen to it today, the only word that comes out of my mouth is a big fat no. Whatever "cold and raw" minimalistic ingenuity you saw in that album was naught but poor sound production and riffs without melody repeated ad nauseam for 39 minutes for me.

I'm a huge fan electronic music, but I cannot stand The Chemical Brothers. I find it very frustrating that they are constantly looked up to as one of the best examples of the genre, because I honestly think they are one of the most over-rated and unrepresentative bands of all time.

It's commercialized pop rubbish. Chemical Beats and Hey Boy Hey Girl were decent, but everything else is terrible - Let Forever Be and Push The Button are an embarrassment. Give me Orbital, Autechre or Squarepusher any day.

I have to wholeheartedly agree. With the exception of Skald av Satans Sol, which is probably my favorite Darkthrone song, the album bores me. The minimalism that is supposed to be hypnotic or something just strikes me as redundant, no way two mediocre riffs can keep me interested for a six minutes song. And the production is the bad kind of raw, the kind that doesn't sound cold and evil, just weak.

Cradle Of Filth are pretty much a plastic pop band, they're metal for 13 year old girls with loads of acne who get bullied all the time.

Cradle are the Slipknot of the black metal world. Kids hear them and go "Aww yeah this is fucking brutal!" then listening to it non stop. Now after this one of two things can happen

With a bit of luck they 'grow out' of them and more on to better bands then every now and then going back and listening to an album or two and eventually coming to terms with the fact that the band that was once 'fucking brutal' is just a stepping stone used to get to better bands.

OR

They stick with them and become one of those weird 29 year olds who wear the band shirts and get pissed off at all the kids in the mosh pit at their gigs. Will most likely get arrested for kicking a 14 year old in the face
