What is your favorite apocalypse theory, which would you like/rather happen, what do you think is going to happen?
Will it be intelligent robots taking over, meteorites decimating cities, massive waves wiping us from the planet, or a world wide disease, or maybe something else. What do you think? Give your opinions of the apocalypse to come, or not to come. Will it come at all?

I'm kind of leaning toward the whole "Evil god Loki leads fire giants and various other demons into a final battle against the gods, causing most of them to die in an epic battle- god against god." kind of thing.

Most likely: Idiocalypse. Intelligence is bred out of the human race, leaving dullards and morons to deal with the remains of once-advanced civilisation. Advanced communications fail and are irreparable/irreplaceable due to the lack of technical skills. Next, your basic infrastructure goes. Power and water mean your great cities are suddenly without a waste disposal system. Disease will run rampant as sewers overflow and access to clean water becomes impossible. Eventually, the stupid masses will have to leave the cities, but there will be no place to go. As the transit and logistics systems in place will be almost entirely gone, supplies will be difficult to come by. People will devolve into violent packs, attacking each other for the last edible supplies as they migrate away from urban areas. Many will starve, to death, unable to adapt to the harsh new life required of them. Eventually, the survivors will have instituted a tribal system of sorts, or simply turned into savages and bandits, looting and pillaging. Insular native cultures will probably be the next to rise up and become advanced and civilised, their future generations venturing into abandoned urban centres, fighting off savages to recover ancient technology, learning as much as they can, so that they do not repeat the mistakes of the past.

Everyone dies from some virus that I and I alone am somehow immune to. So until I die of loneliness and/or some disease I can't cure on my own, I get the whole planet to myself. First stop - going down to Washington and sitting up on Abe Lincoln's lap like it's a giant throne.

(In this hypothetical, portal transportation has also been invented so I can warp to anywhere on Earth instantaneously. And somehow the system keeps working after everyone who could maintain it is dead. Oh, and no nuclear reactors go off.)

That's how it'll happen. Or something having to do with nuclear power. Nuclear plant going kaput (again), lake near Mayak leaking out into the ocean, nuclear bombs destroying the surface and leaving naught but a desert.

Seriously, the whole nuclear thing just screams "going to destroy the planet" to me.

Also, to the person who said something about CERN and micro black holes, that's nothing to worry about. Micro black holes are all over the place. If one were generated at CERN it would decay in less than a second, which isn't enough time for one that small to do anything.

I'm watching out for falling Hrungs, myself.

I don't quite know what a Hrung is, but I intend to survive should one fall on us.

First there's a zombie invasion and in order to defeat them, we try a last stand by firing hundreds of nukes. So 40% of people will die from zombie invasion 55% will die from nuclear radiation and the other 5% will die from spontaneous combustion (added for variation).

I'm going to go with a nuclear holocaust brought on by greedy capitalists selling warheads to terrorist groups. With their lack of understanding of the delicate balance of nature in the world (further weakened by pollution), they simultaneously launch all nukes across the globe, wiping out 99% of life, at the same time transforming the world into a scorched desert.

The remaining human population, after undergoing possible mutations from nuclear radiation, begins a war of survival with each other. Edible matter becomes more valuable than silver. Water, more valuable than gold. Cannibalism will likely become commonplace, with the weak being slain by the strong.

Women also will become incredibly valuable, and a slave trade of sorts will begin between rivaling clans (since a clan system will undoubtedly develop) for both reproduction and sexual satisfaction.

Technology will slowly be rediscovered over the course of generations, only causing more violence to break out. The world will remain barren and wasted, with the few resources left being recycled slowly due to the lack of organisms adapted for decomposition. The population of humans would increase to a small, finite point, and would remain locked in war with limited technology until an outside force acts to break the cycle.

The end is already close. We have martians hiding underground, robots hding in plain sight and probably plenty of secret medical research facilities to break.

I really don't care what apocalypse kills us, as long as it comes with at least 30 minutes warning. I have a peanut allergy, so I'll just go eat something delicious in the meantime. :P
