Drugs are an unfortunate part of our society. At least sometimes though, a band has enough sense to strike out against them in the form of songs. Name these bands, and win the general respect of the Escapist community.

Powder
Cocaine (Yes this IS anti-drug)
Your turn (If you say semi-charmed life i will rip your nipples off...)

I think this song is solely responsible for ALL the UK's drug issues since it was first aired. No exceptions.

I know it's not what you aked for, but I've been looking for an excuse to post this for sooooo long. Thank you ChristmasChild, your name is very fitting.

Really? why? considering all the greatest music from the 50's-now and all of the future for ever, have been created through the influence of narcotics.

anyway it has to be Heroin by Velvet Underground.

Definetly not the best but I like it:
"Junkie" by Ozzy Osbourne

Dream Police by Cheap Trick

It's not outwardly about drugs, but I always thought of it as a song about paranoa and insanity that could be interpreted as drug-caused

That's just me though

There are none, because drugs are responsible for far more good music than the absence of drugs. This thread is full of FAIL.

No LSD tonight - Jeffrey Lewis

Anyone (UK) seen those new Talk to Frank adverts with David Mitchell as a drug smuggling dog? Does that last sentence make any kind of remote sense?

And how much incredible music was made before that without drugs?

I'll take that over most (not all) of the crap coming out since the 60's.

Probably Zip Zap Rap by Devistatin' Dave, the Turntable Slave.

...Actually if I'm being serious, he's clearly not an anti-drug performer, but Jeffrey Lewis' The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane and "No LSD Tonight" (which I can't seem to find) songs are about his terrible experience with acid and his frustration at people hearing the song and trying to sell him acid, respectively.

Just watched it on Youtube.
Which bit? the 'finally someone who made sense' line? Probably a reference to the quality of conversation being inversely proportional to the speed. Bit of an in joke for an advert thats probably aimed at someone who's never taken it.

Also "Psycho" by System Of A Down? Yes music has been made by drugs in many cases, pretty much all of Papa Roach's songs seem to stem from drug and alcohol abuse (my favorite band). But I would still much prefer the world without drugs.

Great Balls of Fire was a good ol' song! Yet I doubt more that 10% of any of you have heard of it...

I'm not sure I even know any anti-drug songs....

The Enemy are my favourite ant-drug band though. Them or Gallows.

That video raped my mind then flushed it down a toilet just to watch it get raped by passing dogs.

I can't say I know one anti-drug song. (just shows how well they are doing there job)

The D.A.R.E. song. Greatest anti-drug song ever. Play it at my work all the time.

I mean the sentence about the advert didn't make much sense. Didn't particularly like the advert though. I mean, I've never taken coke and am sensible enough not to, so surely it can't be good that even I feel patronised by it?

Ohhh...you mean your last sentence: 'Anyone (UK) seen those new Talk to Frank adverts with David Mitchell as a drug smuggling dog?'. Doh.

'Don't do this' adverts always seem patronising.
Funny thing is there was an article in the observer written by Mitchell last sunday in which he was saying that rather than telling kids that doing drugs isn't 'cool', because it obviously is (his words), it would be a better idea to shift peoples aspirations away from being 'cool' to other more productive or enjoyable things. A fairly monumental task to be sure, and missing the whole 'enjoyment' aspect of drug use and...erm...not really sure where I'm going with this, it was just an article by David Mitchell on drugs, so I thought it might be relevant somehow.

Pretty much exactly what I was going to say, most of the best music scenes are fueled by one drug or another.

Heroin is an ANTI drug song?!?!?! Oh well, it's still one of their best.

If you say so, dude. But that kind of logic just gets people on stage who think they're among the likes of Jim Morrison who perform horribly when a bunch of people paid good money (sometimes a decent amount too) to see a good concert. I'm not saying all music is bad when drugs are involved, but there's not nearly as much good music as some people would have others believe.

I always liked that line in "It's Tricky" by Run DMC:
"We are not thugs, we don't use drugs
but you assume, on your own
They offer coke, and lots of dope
but we just leave it alone"

Drugs aren't necessarily bad, but too many people take it too far w/o realizing it.

EDIT: For the record, that's obviously just my opinion. And I respect that have your own opinion as well on the matter. So I'd really like to avoid any heated wars here.
