Thats why no famous metal bands have been on drugs whatsoever. No, not one single band I can think of has ever played well or written good music on drugs. |

Muckraker Posts: 328 Joined: 4 Dec 2008 | Oh yes, Sting was quite the stoner. The years have NOT been kind to that gentleman. He was always SO high when he played his heart and soul out on the stage... Some musicians did drugs, some musicians are still alive, and some musicians are Kieth Richards. You just have to categorize. |

Elvis died on the toilet in his 50's. I doubt he had much of anything left in him except those last 4 fried banana sandwiches. And exactly ZERO of the Beatles died from drugs. John was shot, George had a stroke, and Paul and Ringo are still kicking. Are you sure you know your music history? |
Muckraker Posts: 328 Joined: 4 Dec 2008 | And strokes DON'T increase their risk when you are taking pills by the bottleful? EDIT: Stop flaming, I want a serious discussion |

dream police is an awesome song, but my favorite anti-drug song is Drug Train by Social Distortion. |

sorry, but some of the greatest music ever written wouldn't have happened without recreational drugs... don't get me wrong, most street drugs are very harmful and cause nothing but pain and destruction, but c'mon... where would pink floyd, the beatles, alice in chains, NIN, and nirvana (to name but a few) be without drugs? granted, most of these stories end tragically, but without pain as at least a point of reference, most art is pretty shallow... EDIT: the only anti-drug song that sprang immediately to mind was Lie Still, Little Bottle by They Might Be Giants..... |

I think you will find that that 'song' was in the first reply posted :p In addition I would like to mention pretty much anything by Alice in Chains. Not really anti or pro drug, just telling it like it is, except for the poetic angstyness. PS What did you (OP) want to discuss exactly? You just asked for the 'best' anti drugs song people know of (although in my case I promptly posted the worst). |

Oh, good one. Though I'm a bit partial to Johnny Cash's cover. It's wickedly haunting, and a bit more soulful. You know it? |

You me and Bill Hicks. All pro or anti drug opinions aside, my 'proper' response to this thread would have to be: Whoops, I OD'd Now a brief bit of opinion. While drugs can and have done harm, have ended great bands/musicians/poets etc long before their time, they are also undeniably responsible for inspiring aforementioned bands/musicians/poets for most of the length of TIME ITSELF. Pro moderation anti prohibition. |

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane. I'm not sure if it's anti-drug or pro-drug, but it's a good song.
