They don't HAVE to, they just do. People like having people around them that think the same way, mind you. |

no your not the only one, there's just the two of us though. I tend to get in shit if I mention it. For example we were doing a thing in relingion class where we had to write down our religion (and do something else that has nothing to do with my example) and when I wrote down I was athiest one of the other kids saw and beat me up and called me a freak. When I told the princible I was being religeosly descrimated againts she said she'd get right on it. Then she asked my religion and when I told her she did fuck all to help |

I only meant to say that I was glad some one agreed. However, I'm an unappreciative bastard and the phrase, "Thank you," can be difficult for me to type. |

Oh, I thought you were accusing me of stealing your idea. Most people I encounter on forums aren't very nice people. You're welcome. |

It's funny, the ISCF(inter-school christian fellowship, my school is Conservative up the ass) did exactly that. I don't think a whole lot of non-regulars showed up, even for the pizza. I guess there are easier ways to get pizza that don't involve God. User was banned for: Oh god, bees.. (Permanent) |

It should be "You're welcome." (Just joking! But seriously, get it right) |
Beat Writer Posts: 154 Joined: 9 Nov 2008 | BS like this is probably why everyone gets on my case because not being affiliated with any religions... -_-; I don't care if someone is Christian, or Jewish, or Muslim, or whatever, unless they start harping on me to either join their religion (the kids at school labeling me a 'sinner' automatically kind of turned me off from the local church) or act really dogmatic about it. I mean, sure, my aunt is really devoted to her religion, but I only ask her to keep quiet about it when she starts calling my RPGs 'evil' for having a resurrection shrine... I think I'll just quietly skulk away from this issue and pretend I'm not in any way similar to the offending party, thankyouverymuch. >>; |

It's simple really, umm... really simple. People want to be around other people who have similar beliefs, it's the same reason any university society exists. |

It's the religion for angsty teens looking for a way to shock their parents. P.S. I was refering to the "atheists" involved with this incident, not atheists at large-You guys are all right. |

Agnostic? I generally hold that agnosticism as being the scientific 'religion' as it says 'ok, if god exists, prove it', and 'if god does not exist, also prove it'. At least, thats how I understand it. Edit: Same with every religion (and yes, Atheism is a religion, albeit one based on a negative). Well, maybe not agnostic's, but thats just because we're indecisive buggers! ;) |

Beat Writer Posts: 188 Joined: 14 Feb 2008 | atheism isn't organized as a religon. It's just a group who doesn't belive in god. With in that, they all have their own theories and ideas. Some are Scientific, who follow evolution and The big band, some beleive in reincarnation, some people just don't care, ect. |

Perhaps instead of football they like PnP RPG's, there's a society. |

The army recruits people but they aren't a religion. I really don't understand what recruitment has to do with religion. Much like Unions, people organize and group in order to increase their social presence and gain political leverage. FYI |

Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 7 Nov 2008 | Right, I appreciate that. Liking PnP is a totally viable alternative. As is, say, believing in the big bang, or God, or whatever. BUT to be an atheist you can hold a number of different beliefs. It just seems kinda odd to join together when you don't necessarily have anything in common but a lack of belief in something. Added to which, religions have their observances, ceremonies and rituals, for good or bad. Armies have their purposes. What is the point of a society that has no actual purpose? You're attending to do what? Not do anything religious? I mean, I can't imagine they regularly discuss whether big bang or steady state is a more viable alternative.. |

True but the army doesn't give you a specific set of beliefs to go by. You do what they say because they say it not because you believe it,even more so with unions. |

I believe the point he was aiming at was that there is no 'anti-football league'. Whilst many or all PnP RPG groupings might hate football, they do not define themselves as an organization by that hate. At least, thats the point I think he was making. |

I've also always found this really weird. I'm an atheist, but think being pushy about it is kinda stupid. Its a bit like forming a giant anti-tennis union. |

...you don't really get Atheism, do you? By your logic, a Christian society was formed... because they don't like Atheism. |

this sounds exciting.... atheism is a religion :D Just wondering... what else would you call a group of people that often congregate and talk about spirituality? (or lack there of?) |
Press Junketeer Posts: 414 Joined: 18 Feb 2008 |
Well, while there is the EAC and we do indeed congregate, our talks are mostly about global domination and how best to serve Satan in denial of Christ. That or humanity's next steps in Evilution so that we can move on to dominate everything, every one, and ram the galaxy into another galaxy. Just 'cause. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1649 Joined: 26 Nov 2008 | Atheism as a whole does not state the need for congregation. People can gather to talk about it, if they wish but people can gather to talk about football if they wish as well. Doesn't make it a religion. Atheism and Atheists are in conflict with with established religion, therefore, Atheists are the exact opposite of religion. |

The lack thereof is the key distinction of course. I would call them atheists AND a group of people who are defining themselves via opposition to other parts of society. |

That is an interesting argument because that is exactly the same one that pantheists said about early Christians. So if Atheism isn't a religion why would they have to recruit pople?
