Ok, before every Jeff Dunham fan boy/girl lashes out at me in hatred please hear me out:
I don't like Jeff Dunham for a variety of reasons:
The first is that he is everything wrong with mainstream comedy. He never misses an opportunity for a fart joke or a joke about sex. None of his jokes never strike me as clever and I can always see the punchline coming from a mile away. I'm not bragging about my intelligence either. But every one of his bits seems so predictable. None of his material seems original.
The Second is the puppets. The puppets only provide stale and tasteless stereotypes they would be the extent that they would seem to be off springs of Carlos Mancia. He also leans on his puppets every opportunity he can. For those of you die hard fans who have enough sense to read the whole rant before replying consider this: Have you seen the first part of one of his specials (can't remember the name)? You know the part where he does comedy alone? Wasn't he just making noises for his dog? That was super lame, I know that was just the opener and not the high point of the special, but come on. That was just terrible.
The third and final reason (or last reason I can remember of the top of my head,) is that he takes attention of the comics that are really actually talented. I can name 5 comedians of the top of my head that are better but who's attention has been averted from them to Jeff Dunham. Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedburg, Dmitri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, and Ron white. It's terrible that those people haven't seen comedy at it's finest.
If you are reading this that means you have read through my hate speech and are going to reply to it intelligently (please).
I actually like his openers more than his puppet stuff. And he's not the first comedian to do puppetry, just the first to do it well. People like him, people don't. I personally find that he is okay every once and a while.

First of all, I agree with many of your points sir. Second: I love Dimitri Martin. He is fucking hilarious in his deadpan style.
He is not bad however alot of his jokes fall flat. His Xmas special with Achmed the dead terrorist who from his other special was one of my favourite puppets however in the Xmas he reused the same jokes and his new ones were total shit. Not to mention that the purple puppet who makes up most of his show really gets on my last fucking nerve. The only puppet of his I relaly like is Walter but even then its rather limited. He is just a pale imitation of Straussman and half the time the damn guys lips are moving.
Though I'm alright with Dunham, that was a spot-on analysis of him. As for the overshadowed comedians, Mitch Hedburg's been dead for years and Dmitri, though he has his moments, isn't really that great. Ron White, however, is a fucking comedy god.
I agree with most points you made but I have one question: Is this thread really how you want people to think of you as you start your Escapist... life?
Meh, I still think he's funny. Some of his jokes are really dumb, but a few are really clever! I've always like the first part better, they're really funny. I've only seen his Christmas special and a couple of youTube videos.
Gxas: I agree with most points you made but I have one question: Is this thread really how you want people to think of you as you start your Escapist... life?
To be honest I just wanted to get this off my chest I don't really care how I start out. I just wanted my opinion to be heard.
All the comedians you named at the end are great, especially Mitch, Patton, and Dmitri. I, however, disagree. I think that Jeff is very funny. I'm not quite sure why, but I love his jokes. I think comparing him to Mencia is a crime. Mencia is poop crumbs.

yah man, its cool, you don't need to worry no one remebers posts to long anyway.
I will agree that Jeff Dunham isn't a great comedian, but I do not think he is overshadowing the likes of Ron White. The blue collar tours were great for him and got his name well known. I dont think Jeff stands a chance against the Blue Collar.
Though Jeff and Ron both exploit sex jokes like nonother. In fact, if your angry that Jeff takes advantage of obvious sex jokes you should be pretty pissed with Ron as well.
Jonny The Kay: Patton Oswalt, Mitch Hedburg, Dmitri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, and Ron white.
Good list, but I think Dat Phan is better than Patton Oswalt. No, wait, better yet Lewis Black, or John Oliver, or Bob Saget (If you haven't seen him do a comedy performance just trust me on that one).
For the most part I agree with what you said, I thought he was OK, definitely not George Carlin, probably not even a Brian Regan, but when I heard, "I KILL YOU!" five times a day I stopped being so amused.
However I still like his original three puppets; Walter, Peanut, and Jose. I'm assuming you saw his second TV appearance, because that's the one with the dog joke, and that's also where he brings in a lot of stereotypical puppets that just generally annoyed me.
It's really just a manner of taste, don't ya think? I mean, he doesn't just do the stupid stuff you talked about (though he does do it predictably), but he has some relatively intelligent stuff, too. Don't ask me what in particular, it's been like four months since I saw his specials last.
He's a comedian ventriloquist that has gained a huge amount of popularity here in the states. Look him up on Youtube if you'd like.
no, I'd rather not. Ventriloquists annoy me
on that basis alone i support your anti, this guy, thing... whatever
To be honest, I normally hate ventriloquists too, but for a ventriloquist Jeff Dunham is pretty good (I don't mean in terms of not seeing his lips move, I mean in terms of entertainment). The question is whether he's all that good as a comedian.

I'm not discrediting sex jokes altogether. I thought that Ron's sex jokes are a little more original and not so over the top and just plain not stupid.
Much like the likes of Dane Cook, Mitch Hedberg, and the like... I think Jeff Dunham is funny. The first time, that is. What I can't stand, however, is people quoting the above into the ground (and typically quite poorly at that) and even more so when they tell you about it before you've seen it and totally ruin what should be an awesome joke.
This is why I tend to prefer comedians who are less well-known, or at least less-quoted, like David Cross, or Louis C.K., or Christopher Titus.
This is kind of a silly post. You would have been better off making it a poll and then giving your reasons for not liking him. As it stands now, you may as well have said "I don't like blueberry pie. It relies too much on the blueberries for its flavor. Please make all posts intelligent".
As for your reasons, what? Let me just say this now, whenever somebody says "it's too mainstream" or the like, it sets off warning bells in my head. You don't like sex jokes? I was not aware that having them in your routine made you an unintelligent fool. Not original? Can't really say I've seen much like it, so we'll have to agree to disagree.
"...leans on his puppets every opportunity he can"? That's like me saying "Dimitri Martin relies too much on off-beat humor", or "The Amazing Jonathan relies too much on magic". It's their act. If you don't find the jokes funny, or you just can't get into it, that's one thing. But to simply call it "bad" is slightly ridiculous
And as for "...takes attention of the comics that are really actually talented", huh? I don't know about you, but when I find a comedian I like, I don't automatically ignore everybody else and focus all my attention in him. TV shows aren't videogames, you can have more then one without spending a million dollars. Saying that is like saying "blue pens take attention away from black pens".
I don't really give two shits if you like him or not. But as it stands your logic as to why he's a "bad" comedian is very poor, and even if I wasn't a fan, I would still have to call you on it. Please do a better job of getting your point across in the future.

Hes a ventriloquist... of course hes going to rely on puppets.
Stereotypes are what you'll find in all the other comedic acts.. that, or politics.
Every opportunity for crass fart jokes? Um... alrighty. I can name one, thats about it.
I've also seen stand up from those 5 "amazing" comics.. They're nothing special. I wouldn't say they're better than Jeff, nor worse.
Each has his own style. I found Jeffs first special absolutely HILARIOUS.. then it got repetitive. Same with all the other comics. Recycle crap and viewers will get bored.

Thank you for your post
First: that is your opinion and you are entitled to it.
Second: I believe I made about 3.5 Paragraphs about the reasons I don't like his comedy.
Third: The puppets are more of a gimmick than anything else. If he didn't have them and made jokes of a similar theme, just without the puppets would anyone listen?
Fourth: I've already explained the sex joke thing in a previous post please read it.
Five: Say you like a comedian, wouldn't you recommend it to a friend or two(assuming you have friends)? If they liked it wouldn't they recommend it to their friends? Wouldn't word of this comedian spread quickly like this if the pattern continued? I'm not saying I think your some kind of lemming that can only focus on one thing at a time.
Ok apparently you have absolutely no CLUE about the purpose of a ventriloquist. They make things speak. That's their whole act. get that through your thick skull please before you make yourself look even less informed.
How you haven't gotten then while people before me have stated it is quite surprising. Even teenagers understand stuff faster than you.
As for the dog 'noises'. thats called giving a voice to something that doesn't have one. It's called impersonating an object to project an opinion it might have if it could speak.
You go on about how his comedy is bad. You don't even know bad comedy ffs. Hell you don't even know how to pick apart GOOD comedy.
As for stereotypes...they're puppets...THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE STEREOTYPED!
Once again...LEARN WHAT THE HELL VENTRILOQUISM IS!.
As for fart jokes, obviously you didn't pay the slightest bit of attention to any of his shows. He makes at most 3 fart jokes in one hour long show. three at most out of over FIFTY. Real objective there, Good Job *thumbs up*
Finally since you seem to have the critical analytic ability of a boiled squid.
Comedians are like..well for the sake of this particular point...doctors. Each has their own speciality and there's no point in comparing a brain surgeon with say a dermatologist.
Sure they both went to medical school and learned the same basics, but they went different specialties.
So comparing Dunham to the likes of Ron White is a similar situation and simply goes to show once again that you don;t have the first CLUE are critiquing comedy.
Either go watch more ventriloquists or SHUT THE HELL UP.

I hate unskilled people like you. Get a clue.
1. When I said "fart jokes" I meant crude unfunny jokes. Sorry you made it literally. 2. When you watch this comedian did the following thought ever cross your mind? "THIS IS FUNNY" 3. I know what ventriloquism is relax. Sure a comedian can do something different but if it's not funny what difference doesn't make? P.s. what does "ffs" mean?
1. When critiquing a successful comedian which you can never hope to surpass. Always make sure you say what you mean. As for crude unfuny jokes. Did someone steal your sense of humor?
2. Yes I do. There are very few comedians I don't find very funny, Franky Boyle being one of them since that twat can only spout out insults about how ugly people are. I fail to see the funny there.
3. Apparently you don't since you are citing all the core parts of it as bad comedy, or do you just have a thing against ventriloquism?
Ventriloquism has seriously got to be the weakest of talents. "What was that you say? You can talk without moving your lips? Well guess what? I can juggle five object at once. What's that you say? You can do different stereotypical voices without moving your lips? Well, I can do a perfect Ray Romano impression. Where's my special?" The puppets are a crutch, a stupid, dying crutch. Jeff Dunham is the single least talented "comedian" I've ever seen. Even worse then the ones that take one part of themselves (IE: Obesity, or black) and make an hour long joke out of it. Seriously, he's worse then those people. I hope he has a stroke. Then he'll understand that talking without moving your lips isn't exactly a talent, it's a side effect.
Yeah Jeff Dunham is getting old fast. I enjoyed the first time I saw Peanut and Jalapeno on a stick about 15 years ago, but now, it is getting kinda silly.
Ron White, really? I enjoyed his comedy the first time I heard it, but he kept up with the same damn material for years during the Blue Collar Comedy tour. It was embarassing.
I was never a fan of Patton Oswalt either.
Mitch Hedberg, if he was still alive, was seriously funny. IMO, Jim Gaffigan and Brian Regan are hysterically funny and probably some of the best standups around today.
