Best work from a band who is hated by every metalhead, punk, and 'real' music fan because of their popularity. If you sit back, forget who they are, and listen to their music, you'll find they make better pop-rock than about any other band around. Catchy tunes, a soulful voice from Pat Stump, and fun songs are a staple. Also they have a very varied sound, and it you don't think so then you are simply stuck up your own ass. Correct I might as well break it down on why Nirvana gets the credit. Grunge Started in Canada (the best thing to come out of there since socialism) Then Seattle (which is next to Canada) caught it and the four big bands of grunge came out soon. These included NIN and SoundGarden but Nirvana's ugly head comes from the UK and shines out these four bands, then they take these grungy elements as a "tribute" (and completely ruining it with lengthy guitar solos by the way) and kill themselves leaving no one to carry on the legend. which is why I hate Nirvana.

Neil Young, the Godfather of Grunge, did indeed come from Canada, and was intrumental in inspiring the whole movement. However, you failed to mention the 80s bands who were just as important- groups like Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and The Pixies. Nine Inch Nails were in no way part of the Seattle Big Four. In fact they're not grunge at all, they're industrial, a completely different kettle of fish. The Seattle Four were Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. These bands rose to the top of a music scene also home to bands lik Mudhoney and Tad.
Where you get you info from, I don't know, but Nirvana were not from the UK. They were Seattlites, like most of the original grunge bands. Nor were they simply a tribute band who ruined songs with lengthy solos. You must not know much about Kurt Cobain- he was vehemently anti guitar-wank. They are in no way my favourite grunge band (AiC all the way!), but even I can appreciate the impact they had,not just on grunge music, but rock muic in general.

And my point still stands, if you think we should listen to Justin Timberlake just because it is "hip" means that you are the shallow one. I particularly like the keyboard and synthesiser work through the album (I'm a sucker for good synth playing), and the sharp feeling of most of the album.

Soundgarden did get famedom. All the grungebands did. Maybe they didn't achieve the same stratospheric level of fame as Nirvana, but they were well into the mainstream by the time they called it a day. Just type in Black Hole Sun on Youtube. And your reasons for disliking Cobain truly suck. You seemingly just took four completely unrelated words, threw them together and tried to convince yourself you had an argument.

Band: Weird Al Yankovic Album: Straight Outta Lynwood Release Date: 2006 Genre: music parody Rating (1-10): 9 Why you chose to recommend this album: Weird Al has been the funniest singer alive ever since he came out with songs like Yoda and Eat It back in the 80's. This album shows he's still relavant today and as funny as ever. He's always had great parodies of popular songs that are done with the original artists' permissions and this album is no exception. All the songs are funny, but the best ones on this album are White and Nerdy, Canadian Idiot and Confessions Part III. The album sleeve insert has the lyrics to all the songs on it which I enjoy seeing in any album I buy. The pictures in there are funny too with all kids of weird takes on gangsta rap album covers. The disc is one of those neat Dual Discs that is CD on one side and DVD on the other. The DVD side has the whole album with surround sound, music videos for some of the songs, kareoke mixes with onscreen lyrics and a behinds the scenes featurette. It's quite a deal, especially if you find it used at some of the music stores like Zia Records where I found mine. I think more artists should do Dual Disc albums, they give them the option to put so much more content into one package.

I never said I had a good argument, I even put irrational in there to prove that I'm just a fan boy looking for someone to blame that they had to disband in 1996-ish. Also all the songs flow together to tell a story. A great album you can listen to again and again.
Band: At The Drive-In Album: Relationship of Command Release: 12 September 2008 Genre: Post-Punk/Post-Hardcore Rating: 10/10 Reason: First 'real' album I ever bought and still one of my favourites. Incredibly densely layered but not forgetting how to kick some arse. Admittedly it'll sound rubbish the first time you hear it but you back to it and it's amazing. -- PS. OP I like the idea of the formula, I will be returning to this at home for some 'purchases' over the internet.
I really enjoyed this album the first time I heard it. It still doesn't beat deloused IMO, but fantastic album nonetheless

Band- Porcupine Tree Album- Deadwing Genre- Progressive Rock/Metal/Ambient Rating- 10/10 Why I chose it- Porcupine Tree are my favourite band of the moment, and they seem to be on one hell of a roll. Their last few albums have all been absolute blinders, and in my opinion this is the best of the lot. From the beautiful 'Lazarus' and the mighty 'Arriving Somewhere...' to the absolutely epic 'Start Of Something Beautiful', this is an abum from a band who are truly coming into their own. In a music scene that seems to be getting ever more stagnant, this band isn't just a breath of fresh air. They're an oxygen tank hooked straight to the lungs, causing feelings of all kinds of euphoria and exhilaration.
Steve Wilson, another god among men. I really enjoyed this album. It got me into listening to PT in the first place. If you like this album, go give In Absentia a listen... like right now.
Band: Massive Attack Album: Mezzanine Release Date: 1998 Genre: Electronic Rating: 10/10 Why: Universally agreed to be this band's best album. This album marks a major departure from the jazzy and laidback sound of the band's first two albums (Blue Lines and Protection), for it invokes the dark undercurrents which had always been present in the collective's music. Give this one a listen for the song "Teardrop" alone. You will not be disappointed.

Arcturus Any of them. I can't choose one. Avant-Garde Black Metal with a cosmic space theme. I chose them because they are crazy, have intelligent music, and are so out there it's mind blowing.
Overall I'd give all their music a 9/10. Some songs are harder to get into than others. Their earlier days were black metal in the vein of Old Man's Child and early Dimmu Borgir. Then they became a zany version of Borknagar. Then they sadly broke up in 2005.
Band: Tool Album: Lateralus Release date: 2001 Genre: Don't quite know... Rating: 10/10 (I think perfect scores in professional reviews of any kind are bullshit because nothing is ever perfect. That being said, I'm not a professional reviewer and I don't know how else I would quantify something as subjective as my liking of that album; it's just perfect for me)
Reason: Complex, rich, diverse and as far away as a band could get from the stereotype that "the drummer is stupid and the bassist is useless"

Band: Enter Shikari Album: Take to the Skies Released: April 2007 Genre: Trance/Hard rock/Indie/Screamo Rating: 9/10 Reason: The most Orginal band to come out of the uk in recent years. The whole album has such a sheer variety of mindblowing sounds and the tracks are so memorable. They were edged into my mind for quite some time (does the Johnny sniper salut).
Suidakra - Emprise To Avalon Released - 2002 Score - 10/10
Possibly the finest album released by German melodic death metal band Suidakra. As with previous albums, Emprise To Avalon was heavily influenced by Celtic folk music and history. With tracks such as the epic Pendragon's Fall and the brilliantly lyrical Darkane Times only Caledonia (2006) comes close to matching Emprise To Avalon's mix of death metal vocals and battle metal riffs.
Definitely a must for any fans of bands such as Turisas, Einsiferum, Finntroll etc

i dont just like noise, i recomended loveless because it is widely accepted as one of the most important albums of the 90's. i really don't care if you like fall out boy i only called you on it because you listed them as indie, which is way off, there as far from indie as possible.

Band: tegan and sara Album: if it was you Genre: indie/pop Rating (1-10): 9 Why you chose to recommend this album: tegan and sara is one of the best pop bands around right now and there hot lesbian twins... which is awsome.

Well I know they often get classified as a metal band, but I reject that; It's more and I can't get enough of it. ^^

Band: Attack Attack! Album: Someday Came suddenly Release Date Nov 11th, 2008 Genre: Christian Screamo, Hardcore, techno. Rating (1-10): 8.9 Why you chose to recommend this album: im not really christian and don't listen to them because of their message, but because they are one of the freshest screamo bands out there.
Band: Queens of the Stone Age Album: Songs for the Deaf Release date: 2002 Genre: Hard Rock Rating: Excellent

My reasoning would be that fall out boy sounds way too similar to the same produced sound common within the pop-rock/emo genre. It is rather simplistic approach to music with no real differentiation between songs.
I would say your assertion it is due to popularity they are disliked it totally incorrect, they are hated because their music symbolises everything that is wrong with popular music nowadays, lack of individuality, simplicity of music and over-produced sound, often relying on the image the record companies project or the band styles themselves as in order to fit a brand. There is nothing to latch onto for a listener in order to say they are a fantastic band, more a style in which to model yourself over.
But that is no reason not to stop listening to them, if you enjoy that particular sound, then that changes nothing in terms of what you enjoy to listen to. As musical taste simply says what you enjoy, not what you respect(hence there is no better or worse as you said, and I agree with you upon). But I would disagree when you say popularity is the reason to hate them (although you aren't wrong in many cases) and I also say there are reasons to dislike a band past their music.

pretty diverse if you ask me. Back on subject, I'd recommend Guns n Roses new album, Chinese Democracy, because i think its the most bold, innovative, and grandiose mainstream album that's come out in a long time

Band:The Smashing Pumpkins Album:Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness Release:Octobe 24, 1995. Genre:Alternative Rock Rating:9.5 Reason:This album is often called the Pumpkins best, and for obvious reasons. The whole album is full of introspective songs, that vary in sound. The songs go from mellow (1979) to hard (Tales of a Scorched Earth) and nothing is left untouched.

I Would have chosen a beatles album, seeing as they are my favorite band, but I thought about this one since I thought no one would have heard of Marcy Playground. I chose it because if you like alternative rock you will love it. They are a great band that never really got going and no longer do much of anything. So check it out.
