I dont know, there is just something about piercing someones back with your bare hands, grabbing their spine, and pulling it out in front of the children, that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. ;)

Religious fanaticism is probably the best excuse for real life villains.

The creepiest reason for being a bad guy will always be their mindset, whether it be he's half retarded and likes to kill people because he thinks it is in fact good, or his idea of bringing a united peace to the world is by genocide, in other words, they think they're the good guys.

"What do you mean? I'm no villain, I can't be... I tried to save them... Tried to save you all... They just got in the way, and then people started attacking me. I had to defend myself... If I didn't, who'd be there to protect the rest of you?"

Yeah... I like fallen paladins and angels and stuff. They're more fun to write, and talk to.

Joke answer: Because Hitler was my Hero.

Serious answer:
-I like nihilist vilains.
-Anarchists
-The smart kind who manipulates everyone
-The Bond evil kind
-The one who makes you question the "good" side

I like villains who don't particularly think of themselves as evil, they just have conflicting ideas about what is considered "good".

We agree; this is sort of the anti-hero/villain ideal and often can be more interesting if properly developed. That would be my role if I were a 'villain' at least.

I have to quote the great and powerful squirrelking on this one...

" Why are you working for bad guys" Jake Snake told the bad guy with the weapon

"Becaus they hav metal gears and hav weapons that shoot lasers" the bad guy said back to Jake Snake. "

Fanfiction at it's best, folks. Also the best reason I've ever heard to fight for the badguys. XD

reasons for being a villain: a)my dog was raped by a nine-year old hyacinth flower and now he can never walk again with 4 legs on the ground...maybe just two; b)my mom did some pancakes and i never got to eat it because she did it for my dad. c)money makes the world turn upside down, side to side, up and down, over and under and i might get some for my broken tv. :D
just kidding!

I'm only a villain because holding countries to ransom with orbital superweapons is an easier route into power than democracy.

This.

But my superweapon is located in a basement and is just a multicolored death ray.

My friend at college once said this to me;

"The players of the Horde on WoW are only the bad guys because they are geeks, who feel the need to be bad ass to express themselves as an intimidating person because in real life thei're repressed and have no friends"

I laughed for ages.

There's some truth in there though. All of the Horde people I know in real life are all the stereotypial 'geek' kinds, and all the alliance people I know in real life are closer to what is stereotypically normal.

I don't know why, maybe he is right?

I've always played as the villain in video games because in real life I am rather shy and it is good to be a confident dickhead. Also because the villains generally enjoy what they do (just like I want to be doing when I play a game) instead of the self righteous hero nonsense.

"jhonny the homicidal manicas" back story was that he was pantsed in school and was rather small... but it was decided to be too stupid.

i have my reasons for being EVIL!!! but they are my own.

Rasputin Varez from the book "Gangsta Bang" was a crime/drug lord because he figured that if he took over the entire city then he could do it without the magor problems of the other, more modern crime gangs.

The Most Badass villains are those who simply enjoy the feel of being evil

"Evil people don't say they're Evil."

To me the best kinds of villain are either the deranged lunatic, to whom it all makes perfect sense... And the misguided savior who thinks what he's doing is for the best, who thinks he's saving everything with his actions.

Evil people can however admit that what they are doing would be seen as evil by other people, or even themselves, they just see something else as more important, or they just don't care.

there are all sorts of reasons to be a villian. why not have more than 1? its all about how WELL the character is written(and in some cases acted)

you can find most motives and justifications of why to be a hero or a villain in the Dark night!

The way I see it, revenge can be the most serious of motives for all the non-criminally insane to turn evil, for the second of course there need be no excuse

But they'd say the rest of the world is evil, thus they perceive them as evil.

My favorite reason: Spite. Nothing says 'evil' quite like "that's it, now all you m________ers are gunna DIE!", especially when the cause and effect don't quite line up perfectly...

Actually, I have justification for this too. I believe that everything is a shade of gray, light cannot exist without evil etc. Without the evil, the good turns into evil. Without the good, the evil destroys itself. And without those whiney brats crying over their christmas presents, I'm happier.

I'm not really the evil type to be completely honest... I just... tend to lean that way, I guess. Purely coincidental, I promis! Although I don't really think I'm on the wrong side of the teeter-totter either... I'm a Necessary Evil.

Cali, Why would they? Some villains, sure, would think the whole world is evil. Some just don't care. They know that what they're doing is generally considered evil, they just don't care. It's not that the rest of the world is evil, it's just that their own interests take precedence.

Right and wrong, good and evil, are all perspectives. Evil people are evil because their view of right differs from what's acceptable by the majority. Evil people don't think they are evil, they think everyone else is wrong and what they're doing is right.

There's a word for people who do something considered "evil" because it's "evil": Attention Whores.

Stop ignoring the point.

First off, there's variety. People do stuff for different reasons. Secondly, there's smart people. People smart enough to realise that they are "evil". Thirdly, some people are really selfish and lack compassion. Even if what they are doing is "evil" they wouldn't stop, because it doesn't matter to them that other people get hurt. They don't think that they're doing the right thing. They know they're not. Some believe that they're not doing anything wrong. Other's just don't care.

Take a thief. A thief probably knows that stealing is wrong, they still do it. Not because they think society is evil, or that the laws are wrong, or they're right, but because they think their own wallet is more important than the property of whoever they're stealing from. (Yes, I am perfectly aware that there are people who steal because they "have to" or for justified reaons, I'm not talking about them.)

This is the same thing, just on a grander scale. Some people, just. Don't. Care. It's not that hard a concept to grasp. And even if many villains or people justify what they are doing with another moral compass, SOME just don't care. They don't have to. They think they're more important than the victims of whatever they are doing. They don't justify it. They don't think they're doing the right thing. They know they're wrong. It doesn't matter.

K, let me untangle that for you:

Imagine I hold a gun to your head cause you threatened to say something or otherwise hurt me/someone else I care about, whatever. For whatever reason, at that point, your existence was a threat to me. I may know killing is wrong, I may find killing to be wrong, but if I see killing you as justifiable, then killing YOU is right at that time. Exigent circumstances demanded I took an action I'd usually see as wrong, as evil, and use it, because it was right to do so, because to me it was the right thing to do. Nobody ever does anything they know it's the wrong thing to do. They might feel the action by itself is wrong, but in that context they believe it's right.

In your example the thief still steals because he sees it as appropriate, in his mind he HAS to... For whatever reason.

And people who don't care that they're evil still don't find themselves to be evil. They think they're right, they just don't care what other people think because to them everyone else is just ignorant. We all act on the same basic principle, the same fundamental logic. Everything we do can be defined simply and accurately by: "Because it was the best thing to do at the time".

Even the attention whores who do bad things because they're bad, even those pathetic people who do things so others see them as bad, they do so because they think it's right. Those people aren't evil, they're just...Sad... They want attention.
