I read in some god-awful paper the other day about some family who were told to take their christmas tree away from their visible flat window because it might make non-christians feel "uncomfortable". That just ruined my spirit. I'm a total athiest and total non-believer of christianity but I still love Christmas and the few hours of magical splendour.

I know it's not just PC to blame. It's also our age.

That is very stupid, and that's coming from a Jew. I could care less about some dumb tree in your house, do what you want.

But aside from my joke comment, I really think this is part of the whole reccession/depression/economical crisis that's going on like someone said earlier. Everybody is just on edge about this whole thing.

Christmas itself doesn't really excite me anymore, must just be me getting older, but I did spend a lot of time with my brother lately. I really enjoyed that.

christmas eve was nice cos i met up with the cool side of the family christmas day was sh*t tho...
due to the crap side of the family...

i think christmas is losing a bit of it's excitement for me, maybe cos i've grow up or maybe cos my wife is always in another country at the time...

either way, i think it all started diying out the instant i found out that santa was actualy made by the coca-cola company way way back in the early days (red and white anyone?)

And why do you think it did not feel like Christmas?
I cant really put my finger on it.

It didn't feel like it did as a child. It seemed to me like an ordinary day almost.

its because there was no christmass decorations or stuff. because saying "merry Christmas" is now like going out and calling everyone a nigger, its "considered" offensive when no one gives a shit. thus removing all of the Christmas cheer

I love how Christmas trees came from the pagan(?) religion of just bringing a tree into your home and planting it into your dirt floor to keep it warm.
I think banning anything like decorations is stupid anyway, but I draw the line at retarded.

I just realized that "The Polar Express", a great Christmas tale, essentially says that Christmas is about gifts and leaves out Jesus entirely.

Not only that but they also fail to keep their characters out of uncanny valley.
I never saw it though, but I don't want to.

The Polar Express was a book before it was a movie. Hell just ignore the movie.

Still doesn't justify their inability to animate properly, plus I'm sure more kids would have watched the movie than read the book. Though, they might have been too disturbed to see any messages.

Movies are notorious for being several thousand times worse than the books anyway... Just like everything else..

It's not just that. This year in general, most people felt, sucked ass. You might call this bullshit or mumbo jumbo, but this year has had some bad energies (psychic) in general. These energies influence how we feel in a big way. Trust me, by mid-Febuary , things will be better.

yeah, a psychic recession...

Christmas has been dead for me for some time now, I was never given the illusion of Santa, I'm not religious at all and I never really know what people should get me because there doesn't seem to be any point in people getting me anything or vice versa.

I'm not sure if Christmas is dead yet. Dying maybe. UNdead even. But it's not gone yet. However, I think that when it falls back on consumerism to stay afloat in the mainstream, we may see its popularity in decline.

That doesn't surprise me. I agree with the "most people". Not due to my own personal experiences, but when i think of the things that have happened in general to the human populace.

Im surprised I didn't get the piss taken out of me more for posting that (which I was drunk when i did, had just gotten back from the pub)

I still feel like a little kid whenever Christmas comes around (Well, I feel like a kid even if it's not Christmas but that's not the point...). This year was a bit of a let down due to half of my presents being makeup (which I don't bother with, don't know how to put on and it makes my face itchy) and my only good present I still have to buy (Triple Ocarina <3) But it hasn't lost the sense of happiness and relaxation for me for me.

We also put my dog Jerry in a giant stocking....

Is it just me in thinking that the good feeling of knowing it's Christmas has gone?
Christmas Eve, I didn't feel any sense of hope or happiness in knowing it was Christmas tomorrow.
I've never been really a big fan of Christmas, being its a commercial sinkhole, but the time period at least feels... significant?

Anyone else had this feeling or similar?

:(

Yes, for about a decade or so after Santa was no longer a part of my Christmas, it did feel a little sad and maybe a little lost at holiday time. That same feeling never comes back, but new ones came up and while they are different, they make me feel good about Christmas again.

I was thinking about you, all of you, on Christmas and wishing you joy and success in the coming year. And I know some of you were doing the same about me and others in The Escapist community. Yeah, it's a little cheesy, but you gotta allow yourself to feel the cheese every now and then. It's things like that which make this my favorite time of year. Merry Christmas!

Yep, it's like Christmas doesn't possess the same magic nowadays.
