This happened to me all the time when I worked outside, I find the best thing to do is those hand warmer packets. They work amazingly well, and if you put them in your sweatshirt's front pockets, they make the entire pocket feel like a little hand sauna! And if your feet get cold you put them in your shoes and BAM! Instant warm feet. | |

I know it sounds strange, but when my extremities are cold, I do a few jumping jacks, run in place for a few seconds, or pretty much anything to get the blood flowing. I find that simply putting them somewhere warm is a temporary fix, and if you can get the blood moving, it works a bit better. | |
I have the same dame problem! The circulation in my fingers and toes aren't that great, so they get cold super fast. My solutions: 1) If my wife is around, I jam my hands up her shirt when I hug her. She's like a human furnace (And yes, I totally call her that) so she's always warm. 2) If my wife is not around, I either jam my hands into my coat pocket and hug myself, or sit on my hands. But you don't sit on them, like, RIGHT on them. You put them under your upper thighs. Works for me! | |
I live in a basement apartment, albeit an incredibly NICE basement apartment. (They do exist, I swear.) At first I had this problem 24/7 at home, (because I'm cheap and left the heat off.) but my hands and toes are now conditioned for it, so I don't really notice the cold anymore. Of course, every other place I go with indoor heating now feels like it's sitting on the equator. So, my solution? Not really a solution, more of a guess that maybe you'll eventually get used to it... or not. | |

Bah it was -40 Celsius 2 weeks ago and I staved it off with a light winter jacket. I really don't need much for layers....after all, I am a stereotypical Canadian. Eh? | |
Wear gloves, and when you're not typing sit on them. I also chew on my knuckles and fingers, it's become a habit but it keeps them warm for a while... The thing you don't want to do is take an excited dog out on a walk on a cold day... My hands felt like they were about to be broken off... Oh and for feet I have these slipper booties, they make me look like I'm wearing a Onesie, but I haven't taken them off all winter they're so warm. ^_^ | |
Guilty of all four. Also, I wash them in hot water then put them in a blanket I've been under. | |
I actually did that a few hours ago, and I have never been so glad to have lost the feeling in my hands. I slipped on some mud (lovely English weather) and got my hands in a thistle patch. Spent a good quarter of an hour after getting home trying to pick every last thorn from my fingers.

Same here, except I wear those fingerless gloves. Well, they only go up to the second knuckle, so my fingertips are still showing. Good for gripping, but my fingers really did start to go blue

When extremities get cold? Uh... deal with it? That's what I do... Just let 'em get cold, or put 'em in pockets if you really need it. Either you'll stop thinking about it and it won't matter, or they'll numb and you won't care anymore. | |

I had a cold hand problem when I cross country skied a few years back. If you put your arms at your sides, then flex your wrists (like 90°s to the arm, I'm not sure exactly how to explain that). Next lift and drop your shoulders, it looks ridiculous, but it worked for me very well. | |
I just go over to the fireplace and warm them(I have a old-fasioned wood burning stove). I'm used to going hunting at 5am, in winter, so the everyday cold here dosn't really bother me that much. | |
Stomping your feet also works, it get the blood from you thighs (where there is a lot of it) into your feet (where there is less). | |
You cut open a taun taun and stick your fingers in there. If possible, climb in yourself. It's the obvious and practical solution. | |

Try a combo of caffinated drink and asprin. The caffine raises your blood pressure and heart rate slightly, and the asprin thins out your blood. So the effect is that warmth that is transmitted via the Circulatory system moves faster. If you are in a cold environment I would suggest coffee, as the blood moving faster will lower your core tempature. | |

70% body heat is lost through your head, hands and feet because of the large surface area to volume ratio and because alot of hot blood goes to your head first before the the rest of the body. Wearing good gloves and boots and scarves is very important. | |
I get a hot cup of tea and hold my hands around the cup, then when they're sufficiently warm, I drink it for an even stronger effect. | |

My fingers are freezing!! I've been doing finger exercises to combat this, but they just turn bright pink and stay cold. Who else suffers from cold hands/toes and how do you stave off the chill (other than the customary gloves and socks)?
