Well escapists, I've spent another virtually sleepless night in order to reset my sleeping habits. Usually though I end up staying up late at night for no real reason. Is it insomnia? No. It's my ADD inflicted mind diverted from everything else due to the computer's barrage of visuals and stuff to do. A friend of mine has the same problem. Which brings me to my next point: Pseudo-insomniacs

Most people will tell you that they stay up late at night because they have a problem with sleep. Most of the time it's the same problem I have. Insomnia in itself I believe is a very rare disorder.

So escapists, do you believe that all claims of insomnia are really ADD-riddled kids staring at their computers all night, or are there more cases of insomnia than I thought?

Do you exercise?

Many people find that 30 minutes worth of exercise 3-5 times a week can fix their "insomnia".

I think the term is over used. Many times I have heard my friends say "I had insomnia so bad last night". Well if you did something instead of sit at your computer till 3am then I'm sure sleep would come more easily, insomnia it is not.

I'm not exactly sure, i've spent the last four nights not getting any sleep at all, and it is starting to hurt. I pretty much require caffeine to function during the week. At the moment mines more like proper insomnia, i lay in bed unable to sleep. Before, it was a gradual shift due to staying up later, and waking later.

I used to have many problems sleeping, but some of that was straight down to gaming too much. In fact, i used to be on Japanese time when i was at uni in my first year. I would go down at dinner time, have my Breakfast do a whole day through the night, have breakfast and go to bed.

Previously i used to do an all nighter to bring myself back to normal time.

I can't do it any more though.

I don't game nearly as much as i used to, though i've played alot of Guitar Hero the last week. I find try and slowing things down before i go to bed, at least 45 mins before helps. Nothing is working at the moment though.

I'm not far off headbutting this desk, in all honesty. Even the bags under my eyes have bags

Well, I come from a family history of insomnia, so every so often I'll find myself unable to sleep, and it's usually accompanied by extreme hot flashes, shivers, and headaches...

My brother has that problem. No exercise and WoW are not a good combination.

I really don't get much sleep either(due to the fact that I find it very hard to fall asleep sometimes), but I have never needed more than a few hours a night to be functional the next day, so I never really regarded it as a problem.

Also exercise does help...

The only way I can feel better about this is if I knit an effigy of your face and spoon feed it Yakult. I hope you're proud.

I'm both. Addicted to the internet and hormonally unbalanced.
And excercise does not help me, personal experience. If an 8 hour a day, every day, lifeguarding course does not help me sleep earlier, what will? And I don't mean I sit in front of a computer trying to get sleepy, I mean I go to bed and roll around for 2 hours before I get up and do something.

I'm terribly sorry, not entirely sure where that came from. I must be channeling the guy off the Yakult advert who makes a poorly disguised penis joke to explain to a poor vulnerable in a cafe lady that good bacteria is really small.

Now that I think about it that guy is seriously weird. He shall henceforth be known as Bacteria Nob.

I sometimes don't notice how late it is, but thats more me sitting at a computer screen etc. No I'm not an insomniac, but sleepwalking runs in the family, which ensures I can feel like one at times.

Sometimes I get it, sometimes not. When I do get it I just start reading, and usually fall asleep.

During holidays i dont normally get asleep till 1 or 2, buts due to my empty schedule allowing me to get up whenever i want.
Insomnia is somthing that affects you over a long period of time. You cant just say "i had insomnia last night" beacause it just doesnt happen.

I've had sleeping problems since I was about 12, I haven't seen a doctor or anything because I just got used to it. I usually lay in bed for about 2 - 3+ and will fall asleep, it only happens because I keep running things through my head but I can't be bothered explaining in detail unless someone wants me to.

EDIT: I am 20 now, I usually get 3 - 6 hours sleep a night when not on holidays but I usually go to bed the next day when on holidays.

I do work my way into some irregular sleeping patterns staying up late posting on here and wandering the town centre till the crack of dawn, but I did have a friend who was a proper insomniac.

He used to very regularly go 2-3 days without any sleep at all, and on the rare occasions when he did get some shut-eye, it was only an hour or two usually in the middle of the day. Ruined both his college and social life unfortunately.

I ponder too much. Tough to find some sleep before 2 AM, the past few weeks my usual sleeping time has been 3 AM, even.

On the other hand, most of my courses are in the afternoon anyway. So it all balances out.

On a normal school day i(try to) go to sleep at 10 but after lots of tossing, turning and worrying i usually fall asleep at 0am and then i wake up at six, which leaves me feeling paranoid and angered at everyone around me.
Oh but on weekends it really gets bad staying up till 6am and then waking up at 12am missing out on break fast makes lunch seem like breakfast and dinner seem like lunch, it's so disorientating.

The strange thing is though this still happens even when I'm not on the PS3 or the internet,
Is this considered as Insomnia?(been happening for 'bout 3 years now)
