Rap is the Herpes of the music world

If your just talking about foul language in hip-hop then I can give you plenty of artists who don't use as much foul language. If your talking about something else share because I'm interested.

He is just classifying the stereotype of rap. The "Drugs, Sex, Money, Gangster, Pimp" type of rap, which is the common majority nowadays. Every Genre has it's stereotype like Hard Metal is just the "screaming into the mic" type of music, while Punk Bands are the "cut my wrist, and watch me bleed black" type of music. It's all stereotyped, and we can't do anything about it. We can try to convince people that it's all juuust a stereotype, but their arrogance will just block that out. I am a metal/punk music listener, and I have no problem with rap. I just prefer not to listen to the stereotypical type of rap. It's not all bad, just the majority is to me.

Try this awesome thing, probably not the most usefull site on the internet but it certainly looks cool and innovates.

Also, the thing that annoys be most about chart music isnt the style but rather the lack of meaning, i love songs that mean something, which is why Tool kick ass.

You mentioned Tool, and it is for that very reason that i am now in love with you. Tool is an amazing progressive rock band that I consider the greatest band producing material today.

A few other recommendations are Wolfmother (though i believe they broke up last year), Stone Temple Pilots is an amazing modern band, Radiohead, and Incubus.

Are you kidding me. There's plenty of good music out right now. It's just not played on the radio all the time like the shit out right now. Look at bands like Slipknot, The sword, and Avenged Sevenfold. They are the light in an otherwise very dark music scene(honestly, how many frekin Pop emo bands can you possibly have when they all sound exactly the smae to me). My point is, there is always going to be someone making good music among all the shitty ones out there, you just have to look hard for it.

I love you too man, but the companion cube in your avatar's gonna get real jelous if you keep saying that. Im not the only Tool fan here btw, theres actually quite a fair few, eg frosk or anyone else with bandart in their avatar, im sure ive seen them at least once in the 'reccommend an album' thread too. I love how their music is so deep and immersive and how Maynard could convey anything with that voice of his. And the quality of the lyrics and..*wonders off to play Aenima again*

Anyway in reguards to your list, ive heard maybe one of wolfmother's songs, never heard of STP, radioheard are great and im downloading their discography as we speak and may buy an album or two next payday, incubus i like some of their songs but not others. Thanks for the recomendations.

I assume you heard of APC right? Add to that NIN if you want to stretch genre a bit, or Tori Amos if you want something waaaaaaay dfferent, but yet simmilar.

Yeah man, A Perfect Circle has some pretty good stuff, though it's alot more alternative-ish, for lack of a better term, than Tool. Haha, funnily enough, my favorite song by APC is "3 Libras". It's just so emotional....

NIN is awesome too, if you're into that kinda industrial thing, check out Filter. Their older stuff such as the first album, Short Bus, is pretty good.

It's interesting that you don't know Stone Temple Pilots, they were formed in the 90s and are still around today. I'm pretty sure they were the main act at Lollapalooza (rock event thing that Tool actually got big at in 93') in 2007. They are mostly known due to having the songs "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart" in Guitar Hero 1 and "Vasoline" in Guitar Hero 2. Last I heard, they got Slash as their guitarist after his departure from Velvet Revolver, which, was total shit. Stone Temple Pilots is an excellent band and is one of my personal favorites.

If you're interested in hearing some STP, check out the songs "Plush" or "Lady Picture Show", their best songs.

But yeah dude, thanks for the add and the recommendations as well.

Agreed. I'll give you Emo kids something to cry about!

Go for the Voodoo Glow Skulls, and Fugazi. You'll enjoy those bands!

Er... you do realise that Fugazi are one of the blueprints for emo music? Most people here assume emo is My Chemical Romance or Paramore or similar shit, but they're completely off the mark. MCR and their compadres are pop music, not emo.

Dude, Fugazi was around LONG before the whole emo thing became fashionable. Plus, I believe that if you were to classify their style of punk, it would be Surf Punk, which is way different than emo. Just because some emo kids say it's one of their inspirations, doesn't make it emo in any way. Repeater, Repeater +3 Songs, c'mon, not even close to being emo!

APC more alternative? I always thought of them as a more mainstream Tool - songs are shorter, topics more direct, no long progressive songs like Eulogy or Reflection, etc.I think thats probably why i dont like them quite as much, then again they still have that wonderful Maynard touch - which really shows when you look at ASHES dIVIDE. Ditto on the favorite song btw, i first heard it when i was going through a pretty rough patch with a girl and it really hit home, beutiful song. Close up after that's got to be The Outsider from their next album for reasons not too disimmilar, it leads really well into Crimes too ^_^

Ill check them both out at some point once i cleaned up my harddrive (like 40 mbs left :s it was a 500gb) as i hate streaming music, i'll PM you if i enjoy them.

Thanks for the add back, enjoy your badge :)

I know that they were around before the current scene, its just that the current scene ain't emo, its pop. Emo nowadays is just used as a type of insult for depressed teenagers who listen to too much crappy pop with guitars. I've always read that Minor Threat, Rites of Spring, Fugazi etc were the original emo bands, and the current ones are just pop clones. I actually listen to Fugazi and ROS and still call them emo bands. The word has just been twisted over the years.
