Infamous Scribbler Posts: 514 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | No. Too much money, too hard to quit, plus it smells horrible and if the taste is in any way similar I'd prefer vomiting as my personal pastime. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1078 Joined: 25 May 2008 | He didn't say all the health issues were taken out. You'd still get addicted to nicotine, which seems like a pretty serious health issue to me. Also cigarettes are still expensive, and I never liked the smell of them or felt the need to smoke them so why would I start now? |

It fixes your craving for Nicotine, temporarily. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 772 Joined: 25 Jun 2008 | Hmmm would I intentionally pay money for something that addicted me to it and that I eventually needed to get to normal? No. Even without health risks its still addictive and addictions can bleed you dry and leave you feeling worse about things when you are not in the process of feeding them. That is how they work. I already had to break a video game addiction (Yes you can get addicted to anything) and it was a while before I cold really game again like I wanted. Why would I do that for something that ate up even MORE of my money than video games? |

Well, yes. But that can only really be used as an excuse if you can become addicted to Nicotine some other way, but you can't. I mean, it's sole purpose is to temporarily fix a craving it itself created. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1065 Joined: 16 Nov 2008 | no because i would still get addicted and waste lots of money on it |

That's the point and the absurdity of tobacco, it's only purpose is to fix the craving it causes in the first place. I suppose you could argue that it produces a 'calming' effect, but it's really only smokers who feel this calming effect, in non-smokers it usually makes them feel sick. As a smoker, I suppose it is good to have a little coping mechanism or small 'pick-me-up' available to me, but it probably would be better if I wasn't addicted in the first place. It's strange that to smokers, having a cigarette feels like o much more than having a Nicotine fix, a 'fag break' helps break up the monotony of the working day, your 'morning cigarette' prepares you for the day, smoking areas make you socialise with people you wouldn't have contact with otherwise. |

Who needs cigars when you could smoke a pipe? |

I misread the title too at first :P |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 800 Joined: 9 Oct 2008 | No, just think, smoking sounds utterly retarded on paper. Do firemen come out of burning buildings going "That smoke is smoothe and refreshing, i think i'll go back in for a bit". Yeah, lets roll up a leaf, set it on fire, and stick it between our lips so we can inhale the smoke. Smoking is the whoopie cushion of the Apache (am i the only one who has heard that shtick?) |

yes, yes, yes, and no in that order. However, if none of those first three things are involved in my smoking then no, I would not smoke cigarettes. Even if there were no serious health effects. I might smoke a pipe, but I would have to grow a huge beard, develop a british accent, and buy a monocle first. |

It wouldn't give you cancer or make you smell?
Pretty much, if it had no serious health effects.
***EDIT***
You still need to pay for cigarettes, thanks hazakura for pointing that out
