Why are you on the Escapist? Games? Articles? Off-Topic discussion?

I only read it for the articles, as the man said to his wife.

What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?

I've posted to a few, but tend not to invest much time in them. Initially I found the Escapist to be an absolute oasis, or a sanctuary: it was very quiet, but everyone was intelligent and posts tended to be interesting. To be honest, I feel like it's been getting steadily worse, being dominated more and more by the unwashed masses drawn in by Zero Punctuation, spamming the board with one poorly-thought-out thread after another. You're not all bad; it's just that anything that popular attracts some bad and some indifferent along with the good.

Part of my problem is that I don't like long threads; once a thread hits its third page I lose interest in posting to it. Why bother? So I'd prefer a smaller community, but if the Morlocks bring in the ad dollars - hey, at least they're keeping the site going. But if they ever stop publishing the weekly articles, I'm outta here.

Is there any story behind your avatar/name?

The name is a closely-guarded secret. The avatar is a dog I know. His name is Barry.

If you feel comfortable with it; where do you live in the world? (roughly)

Melbourne.

I found the escapist through a link in a blog to one of yahtzees videos. I watched more, eventually stumbled upon the "what's new" thingie, lurked a bit and then joined.

This is one of the very few forums I actually joined and the only one I visit regularly and even post on. I've been to a couple of others, but they hardly ever featured discussion worth participating. I've been there for gathering information mostly. The Escapist, by contrast, has continued to baffle me with enormous amounts of wit and humor, dispensed by one of the most colourful communities I've seen so far. Besides it's a great opportunity to boost my english.

As for the name, I picked my real name out of a total lack of creativity. As far as I remember I was eager to contribute to some particular discussion and joined in a hurry. I regret that a tiny bit. As for the avatar, I picked this picture because I liked it when I stumbled upon it when browsing the internet. I'm quite happy with it at the moment, but I will probably switch to something else eventually. Something more serious, something unique, something distinguished.

I live in eastern part of Austria.

Why are you on the Escapist? Games? Articles? Off-Topic discussion?

I'd needed a new forum for a while, and the threads here were usually interesting while i was lurking.

What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?

Neoseeker, The Blue Panda, Explode gaming, a now-dead graphics site ive forgotten about, a few gaming clan-based ones.. at least 2 more i cant remember at all - me and forums go back quite a way.

How do i rate you guys? You're alright but i think the amount of users and that stupid 'whats new' box has knocked the rating down a few pegs. While there is a good amount of inteligent topics, discussion and people theres also a crapload of things that piss me off - grammer nazi's, '/thread' people, anyone who types 'win' or 'this' alongside a quote and then buggers off, the trolls, the idiots, the bandwagons, the new threads on the same topic coming round 3 times a day... *rant continues in mind*. Its a small percentage of people, but still it ruins the feel of the place, and i blame the 'whats new' box.

Is there any story behind your avatar/name?

My avatar is one of a few concepts im using for my A-level A&D course, we're to create logos for ourself, and this one is based around my initials. The name doesnt really have much behind it, except 'vida' meaning 'life' in spanish, and 'A' meaning.. well, 'a' in english. But more because i like the way it sounds and i prefer short and unique names.

England, near milton keynes, near stony stratford, my house is the one on the right of three in a clover formation, 3 left turns past a school. Tell me where exactly and you get a cookie.

ZP brought me here at first, but I'm mainly here because of the forums.

What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?
Not many forums, really. A couple of Norwegian ones, primarily gaming forums. Love the Escapist's design and community. A lot of fun and creative people here.

My name is just something random I came up with some time ago. And for my avatar I wanted something retro, and it really is, gaming wise.

I live 45 kilometres south of Trondheim, Norway.

A friend pointed me in the direction of Yahtzee, and, in what would normally be a daring mistake, I checked the forums, and discovered they were actually quite nice.

What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?

I've only ever been on Gamefaqs and one for a comic strip I read, but I have seen others, and it makes my cringe to even consider going to any of them again. So, in other words, top notch.

Is there any story behind your avatar/name?

Well, the avatar is just a thing I drew for a game (www.eatpoopucat.com), and the name is based on rotational cyphers. If you rotate cold up by 3 you get the word frog. Wheehoo! Really, though, I continue to use it just because I will continue to remember it.

USA. Is that roughly enough?

No. She has brown eyes.
I have green eyes. But they don't say nVidia in them like this one does.

Articles and videos mostly. Though I enjoy some banter on the forums
What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?
I've been on the Bethesda Forums, I had a brief spell on IGN and a briefer one on xbox.com I must say the Escapist is a much nicer places than those Forums. If you ignore the spiteful comments behind peoples backs.
Is there any story behind your avatar/name?
I have written the story behind my name on here more times than I care to count. As for the avatar, I like Dante.

I found this safe haven, if you will, almost by accident and I like it here, because of the community mostly. Many of them are fine, decent people that I prefer to interact with.

What other forums have you been on? How do you rate the Escapist?
Many, many, many forums over the years. And yeah, it's good.

Is there any story behind your avatar/name?
Long story short, it came from the shout "Combine'd!" Because I lost to the Combine on the first level of HL2. Man, I suck. The avatar fits the name. And the Person.

If you feel comfortable with it; where do you live in the world? (roughly)
Combine Citadel broom closet, Vilnius, Lithuania, Northern Europe, European continent, World, Milky Way Galaxy, Universe.

1. I'm here mostly for the forums, Zero Puncuation and occasionaly to post a review of my own up every now and then (and hopefully get some feedback about them).

2. I've only been on here and a forum that my friend made (I think it's closed down now due to inactivity), the Escapist's alright, run into a few elitist/arrogant people every now and then but that's the nature of forums.

3. Iron Mal is the same as my Xbox gamertag which is a reference to the super hero Iron Man (with Man replace by Mal, since that is my name), and the pic is there purely because I like Dead Rising.

4. Sunny ol' England
