Please. America isn't that awesome. Sure Freedom of Speech is awesome, but it is abused so bad.
Plus, the patriotism level is absurd. I am American but I just hate ahem "Americans"

Yeah, these are pretty much my thoughts too.

Actually japan is the best place to be a gamer

you Football cant rightly be called football since the ball is very seldom kicked as for soccer the most love comes from Mexico there.

I cant comment on the third bit don't know enough about world governments.

Again I'd prefer japan they are the most advanced technologically.

And once again Japan has the best college system it's just over crowded so the Japanese go elsewhere for there education which i guess would put you second.

And every country places reverence on there freedoms they just dont do it as loudly as Americans do.

And yeah...I'm done.

You've done nothing but try to be a contrarion in your post. I think the OP wanted to know why people love America, I don't see what talking about Japan has to do with that. Too much derailing on this one, but I guess with the subject matter it was bound to happen.

EDIT: Just reading the few posts above me, I think this one should be closed down. Anybody else?

There's no such thing as the USA. It's a myth perpetrated by the leaders of the Muslim world, who are in need of a Great Satan to keep the people distracted while they live like kings. They have callcentres and datacentres dedicated to generating all correspondence reportedly from America. All those US soldiers wandering around Iraq? Mercenaries paid to be there, pissing people off.

Between Canada and Mexico, there's a great rift that leads to the centre of the Earth. Canadians and Mexicans, the superstitious lot they are, keep well away from the precipice and don't mention it to anyone, for fear of demons stealing their souls.

Oh my God! Where am I?

Yes. America is an average place. For some reason, we take it upon ourselves to play Big Brother to everyone else. That's probably everyone's biggest problem with us.
I wonder what would happen to the world if America suddenly decided to stay in its own affairs...

The world would implode.

A lot of people where you are are either judgmental or ignorant.

You only hear about the racist and hypocritical ones because they're the loudest. America's actually a pretty good place to live. I like that we have religious freedom of worship here. There are still quite a few countries where that's a luxury.

And every country places reverence on there freedoms they just dont do it as loudly as Americans do.

And yeah...I'm done.

1) Japan used to be the best place to be a gamer for a few years, but not anymore. America gets far more video game releases than Japan does and has a much stronger indie development. The only reason I think of that Japan might be considered better is because of it's still strong arcade scene. However, what America lacks in arcades, it makes up with stronger online gaming.

2) Irrelevant argument. You are a complete idiot if you judge a sport by it's name. Also, I find soccer to be an inferior sport to football as it's extremely boring and doesn't have the strategic depth that football has. To put it simply, my preference of football over soccer is about the same as my preference of chess over checkers.

3) In some ways, Japan does get newer technology ahead of America, there is no doubt. However, in terms of technological and scientific progress, America is still the best country in the world for those.

4) Nope, Japan does not have the best college system in the world. If you look at the best colleges in the world, the majority of them are located in the United States. Japan's best college, the University of Tokyo, is only ranked #19th right now in 2008 (and just for reference, America has thirteen colleges ahead of the University of Tokyo on rankings). The second best college system also belongs to Britain, not Japan.

5) I guess you could make that argument, but I could say that the fact that we are louder about our freedoms is evidence that we place more value in them.

And yeah...try again, Mr. Weeaboo.

Death is a preferable alternative to communism! - Liberty Prime

I love America, but not for what it is now. I must say that I am proud to be an American. That dosent mean I dont hate George Bush (I do.) or that I dont see serious problems with it, but I was born here and I love it here.

We're alright. I had a whole 5 paragraphs to say about this but I'll keep it at this.
This is why we are NOT awesome.
1. We voted for Bush TWICE!
2. Our measurement system is fucking stupid.
3. Our country was founded on war. And our history begins with it.
4. We don't have any castles besides the ones in Disneyland.

And here is one of the best reasons I can think of that we ARE awesome.
1. We aren't Canada.

So we aren't perfect, but it is a damn good place to live.
And to all that say our entertainment is good. Watch japanese TV. It's fucking hilarious.
(If this offends or makes anyone mad, I apologize. I'm just speaking my mind.)

1. Yeah i will concede that point to you hey are big on the arcades

2. It isnt football its rugby i wasn't judging it on its name.

3. And no not really Ireland is actually the biggest developer of computer hardware in the world and japan the biggest producer of saftware...although that was sometime ago it may have changed i shall look that up and get back to this point.

4. And again you are actually right japans uh i guess it would be high school system is somewhere high up on that list though i think they are all about focusing the kids on what they are best at.

5. Not really being loud about it could also mean you take it for granted and all you use it for is to be loud.

And weeaboo?

3) I can't seem to find information regarding what countries are the biggest in terms of hardware and software development. However, I know America has the operating system market, CPU hardware, GPU hardware, and many other computer related fields pretty much cornered. Not to mention, most of the biggest websites in the world are American based. There is a reason why Silicon Valley is located in America.

4) Yes, I think you might have been confusing high schooling with college education. In terms of primary and secondary schooling, America isn't all that great when compared to other first-world countries. However, America is definitely the best in terms of college education.

5) I know. I'm not saying it isn't a problem sometimes either. But I do know that Americans have a great deal of passion for their freedoms.

One reason why we're awesome.

But in all seriousness, forgive me if I come off as jingoistic at all.

But as a poet once put it...

Emma Lazarus:
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

It's all about that American dream. The country prides itself as a land of opportunity, but also one of self-responsibility, you have the opportunity, but it's not just going to be handed to you. We're also the guys out there defending the four freedoms...or as we'd like to think.

1. Barely. Half of the country voted for him twice. Just in the critical places is all. But as a famous British dude put it, Americans eventually do the right thing...or at least a smarter alternative.

2. It works, doesn't it?

3. The tree of liberty must be watered from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. You didn't really think the U.S. could've gained our independence with a petition, do you?

4. I think part of our dealie is that we don't have any nobles or castes or anything, everybody's born essentially equal(we go into slavery but we weren't the only country doing it, to be fair, and we did have a dude who went on a rampage to end slavery. Before the Emancipation Proclamation), and as such, we don't have castles, which would imply that its residents/owners would be superior to us in some way. We do have some pretty pimp houses and sweet fortresses though.

I think America is awesome because we are the only country to love the best sport in the world, football.

I think America is awesome because we have a section of government (the courts) that keep the idiots we elect to office in check.

I think America is awesome because we develop some awesome technology over here.

I think America is awesome because we have the best college system in the world.

I think America is awesome because, while it sometimes is a problem, we place much reverence on our freedoms, which I feel is important in order to maintain those freedoms.

Just a few reasons why I think my country is awesome. Not that it doesn't have it's own fair share of problems though...

Japan being being the best place to be a gamer would be your opinion, not a fact.

And I have no interest in football, but if you were to correct him, you could at least tell him to say "American Football" as a Spanish translation. And for the record, soccer is a hell of a lot more loved in Brazil than Mexico.

I honestly don't see why people would hate Canada. I mean, look at it. It is one of the most unlikely places to start a war. Just like Australia.

I actually think it would be pretty epic is Canada and Australia went to war. I mean, no one would expect it.

But now I've lost my train of thought in my foolish desires.

I think most of the time people make fun of Canada is just in jest and not in seriousness. I mean, they wear funny hats and say "eh" all the time. It's like they are begging to be made fun of. :P

I think America is awesome because we kept the free world free from Communist oppression for 60 years

I think America is awesome because we (The selfish pricks that we are) give out more money than any foreign government

I think America is awesome because there is a reason why the rest of the world comes HERE to study

I think America is awesome because we are worried that we are no longer doing HALF of the worlds science

I think America is awesome because we own up to what we do

I think America is awesome because we are an incredibly diverse people, both ideologically and racially. Nowhere else in the world can you experience the vast array of cultures that are present in the US

I think America is awesome because our people can slander our president and not get sent to jail for it

I think America is awesome because we provide defense systems to countries that would have to go without if we weren't here (patriot missiles in poland.... etc)

I think America is awesome because all of those nutjobs who promised their neighbours that they would move to Canada if Bush won, are still here.

I think America is awesome because we do not have a socialized health care system, so innovation is allowed to continue, unlike countries like Canada where there are enormous waiting lists for basic services (One Canadian cancer patient, this was in Discover magazine, was on a 6 month waiting list for an MRI. His doctor told him that he would be dead in 5 months. So, what did he do? He hopped on a plane to the US, and had his MRI in 3 days. Thats progress.)

America is the most hated country in the world, because we aren't afraid of stepping on a few toes to achieve what is usually best for everyone. Have we made mistakes? Hell yes! We fuck up all the time. The difference is that even though the rest of the "Civilized World" treats us as unclean gun toting hicks, we honestly don't give a shit, and go ahead fighting the good fight. What the hell have the Europeans enlightened Europeans done in Darfur: answer, they haven't lifted a damn finger! I absolutely love all of the people posting in this thread who say that they hate America. Well, if you hate it so much, leave, because the grass is always greener on the other side of the hill!

America is great because their adverts are HILLAROUS, i saw an advert there once for a 4 by 4 that was 'now able to hold up to 4 tonnes' and looking around you see that a large chunk of americas have these and i bet the heaviest and biggest thing they've ever carried with it is a broom. If anyone on the escapist can think of something a normal person would need to move a 4 tonne object then i'll give them a cookie.

how about a boat? where's my cookie :O

No cookie to you, normal people dont have boats that they need to use a car to drive around. Boats can move themselfs :P. Feel free to try again though.

Oh come on, that's not fair, people use trucks to toe boats around on land.
Gimme my cookie T_T

If 2 people on this forum reply to this and own a boat then i'll give you a cookie. Otherwise its too rare a thing for average people to have :P

Actually, I do have a question.

Why are people proud to be American? what are the reasons to make you proud to be born in the country that you are in?

P.S. football being called soccer is blasphemy, and I am sure it has been said here somewhere but American football just being called football is even worse, I mean one play out of four? seriously?

P.P.S I love American football and am a Right Tackle, and I think America is decent but few spoil it for many.

FINAL THOUGHT: Great Britain FTW.

The U.S. isn't anything spectacular; there are good things and bad things about it, just like any other country.

As for the whole "Americans think they're the best" thing, it's called nationalism, and every country has it. I don't understand why everyone thinks this is a uniquely American habit.

Please forgive my overly rambunctious american brothers, for we are a nation composed of all the people the rest of the world didn't like to begin with (puritans/irish/etc.). We started out as the underdog, and are still very young, trying to truly discover what it is to be american since we do not have a long history to draw from. It's because of this that we have a chip on our shoulder, but also that we are ready to assist the downtrodden and needy. Take a peek at charitable donations per capita and you will see that most americans are much more giving than our foreign friends, but that is not to say that we are better than them, it's just to say that there are a lot of good folks here, and they deserve better than to be labeled as idiots, braggarts, or zealots. Our culture shapes the cultures of the world, so enjoy it. Our innovation drives us into the future. We like war a bit much, but that is what forged us into what we are. Have some bourban and enjoy the view, were gonna be here a while...

As an American, I like to point out just how far we are from awesome.

  • Our leaders are elected through an outrageous popularity contest with very little focus put towards their capacity to rule, resulting in a great deal of war profiteering and loss of civil rights as of late.
  • Our economy features a massive divide of "haves" and "have nots," with the people who have not being perpetually shamed by out-of-control advertising into borrowing massive sums to shore up a need for meaningless materialism that leaves them in a state of perpetual wage-slavery.
  • Because being a douchebag has proven such a successful mode of advancement in our society, we've successfully eroded our foundation to the point where we've brought ourselves and the rest of the world that deals with us teetering near the edge of complete societal collapse.
If we don't suffer a massive social upheaval some time in our immediate future, it'll be because Obama successfully saved our ass, but I doubt most of us would notice because we're dumb asses who, despite all this shit going on, would spend over 46% of our popular votes during the last presidential election trying to stay the course. As it stands, we'll be lucky if one such dumb ass doesn't shoot him for some ignorant reason or another.

That I can mention this without being stoned to death in the streets is the sole reason why America is awesome. Nationalism movements were largely responsible for the World Wars. Being able to criticize ourselves without being hunted down by people entranced by sentiments of Patriotism is our sole chance at not repeating the mistakes of the past.

Patriotim is important. If there were't any supporters of a country, there wouldn't be a county left to not support. I hope that makes sense.

Sometimes people forget all the bad things about their county.
What's even worse is when people forget all the good things about their country.
