my legs hurt...

recently i have found that soon after waking, my leg muscles start to hurt immensly and the only thing that seems to sooth the pain is to apply 30+ pounds of pressure directly on the muscles followed by a 20 minute shower. Instead of consulting webmd i am asking you first, my fellow escapists. What do you think my problem is and what should I do to remedy it?

(waking up in the morning. sorry i didnt specify)

How long or far do you walk?
You may have pulled a muscle.

Wow, me thinks webmd would be a better place to look. No offense fellow Escapists.

Does it only after walking? Have you tried stopping walking?

I kid. Probably just muscle aches. Try warm-ups or something. Unless it happens for just normal short walks, in which case probably see a doctor.

It sounds like your muscles are tensing up while you sleep. I used to have the same problem, but it went away when I started keeping my legs warmer over night (I don't know if that actually fixed the problem, but I know that's what I did) by sleeping in pants and several blankets.

Do you normally do this amount of walking? If not it could be lactic acid...maybe?

yeah, i gotta say, not really a question for gamers. if it cant be fixed by blowing into the cartridge or cleaning the disk, I'm prettymuch useless.

Looks like you need to pursue self amputation...OK, just kidding, how about checking out WebMD instead of asking this lot? Seriously, have you read some of the posts on this site?

It could be dehydration, I found that not drinking enough water caused extreme pain in my legs, try more water. At the very least, you'll be healthier.

Use a medkit. See? Gamers CAN help with medical questions.

I resemble that remark.

Does it seem like your muscles are involuntarily flexing, and you can feel a "muscle rock", for lack of a better term.

I recommend you get metal legs. The surgery is kind of risky, but it'll be worth it.

Oh man, I'm glad I read that before I hit the sack! Thanks for the laugh!

I'm sorry but I read that and thought "That's what she said" but anyway, back to the point. It could just be a pulled muscle in my opinion.

If you are truly asking for a true medical DDX you're going to need to describe "pain" much more pacifically. is it burning, aching, tearing or pressure? Even if you use web M.D. you're going to need to be more specific. However the fact that pressure would relieve it would suggest that it is problem with the blood flow to the leg. Your upper thigh is most likely swollen. Rest the leg, take aspirin and see a doctor if the pain radiates upward, because that would be bad.

ok, ill go into more detail. its an achey pain like sore muscles but only appears in the morning. I've had this problem for about 3 months now so I dont think its just a pulled muscle. I'm 18 and healthy (maybe it's growing pains?) and have recently lost 60 lbs (over a 2 year period). I am currently 5'8" and 150 lbs.

It sounds like morning cramps, maybe through dehydration. If you are doing a lot of excersize/standing in the day, are you warming down/stretching properly afterwards? Or as you've lost a lot of weight, does your mattress fit you?
If you were a lot heavier it could be collapsed, so your legs will be at at a slight angle when you sleep, but that thoery's really clutching at straws.

If the pain's consistent and been happening for three months you should really go and see a doctor.

Have you tried turning your legs off and on again? Ctrl-Alt-Delete?

Sorry. I reckon if you're worried about a medical issue go to the doctors, especially if you've grown rapidly recently.

Hope your okay.

Tell me about these walks...
Specifically, do they involve kicking motions, as if one were punting, say, a puppy?
I'm not accusing you of anything, mind.
Just...implying.
...In all seriousness, though, you probably should check out a doctor or something. We're GAMERS, and you're asking us about walking?
Why don't you ask a blind man to judge your painting?
...Please ignore me, I haven't slept.

Maybe it's your legs becoming accustom to your new found figure - they could be used to having more weight atop them, leading to the muscles beginning to shrink, leading to the pains. I would suggest doing light leg orientated weight training like squats. I am NOT med student, just taking an educated guess. Hope that helps.

I receive similar pains where, I think, where my ligaments in my left calf seize up - meaning I can't, without extreme pain, extend my leg when I first wake up. It occurs on a totally random basis though and I'm fairly sure its a recurring rugby injury.

We should really invent some kind of self diagnostic program for humans..

not to sound crazy but honestly it sounds like you have detatched your retina...it explains everything...also you have cancer....

no i kid...its not funny but i do it anyway

seems like to me that perhaps your body is lacking potassium...or something....

to utterly misquote McCoy "I'm a gamer not a doctor"

If you continue to have problems consult your doctor. Do not go back on the internet looking for a cure. This isn't dandruff or menstrual cramps and you shouldn't be taking advice from people you've never met, and may not have the training to do anything more than speculate.

I've gotten things like this except they happen at random hours of the day, where my leg just locks up followed by a lot pain. My doctor said it was because I was growing and sometimes the the bone starts growing faster then the muscle which cause all the pain.

That could be what's happening except yours happens on a regular basis. I would have to go with everyone else and say doctor or WebMD. Also try eating a banana everyday that could help.

I remember I was completely freaked out when I woke up with a numb arm. Hey, I didn't know that falling asleep on your arm would do that :(

You've had immense pain upon waking for 3 months and you still haven't gone to a doctor? Your first port of call after 3 months of an unusual pain is to ask for help at a gaming website forum? What were you thinking? Seriously.

If you are younger (like 8-14) it could be growing pains, sores from your bones and muscles growing. Although I'd be hard pressed to find an 8 year old that knows about WebMD

You lost 60 pounds in 2 years. What sport did you play? And if part of your body is swollen and you don't rest it, it will remain swollen.

Optimus Prime:

That usually builds up when you're excersizing for a long amount of time if I'm not mistaken. That's what makes your muscles burn when you're pushing yourself.

Stay in bed

You're awesome.

But it sounds kinda like what Xcitel was saying; your legs are getting cold, so you curl up to keep warm and your legs got stiff after a while.

on a side note i once woke up and couldnt move my body for about 40 minutes...and this morning i awoke in a delirium..i think i had a fever dream...i dreamed that you could play AoC through WoW i know its scary...and i hope im not a prophet for having that dream

I think it might have to do with how you lost the weight, but I would not know because I'm still in high school myself. And where exactly is the pain. It might be that you have pulled a ligament, which I have done and it hurt like hell.

consulting the internet is probly not the best choice for you medically
