Those are great TV shows and the intro music may therefore be timelessly classic... but are they the best?

I'm partial to the opening of Bones. That thing sounds great every time and again. Doesn't stick in the head as much as most of the stuff up here.

I looked through youtube but it seems there's loads of different versions based on country. The European versions are different from the American version, ours are a bit more laid back, little less beat and screech, more melody.

French season 3 opening, still different from the Dutch S2 version that I've got in my head.

Aw man, Darkwing Duck... *snf

AuntyEthel:
That was some trip down memory lane. Arthur and the Knights of Justice, I'd all forgotten about that one. Used to watch it zealously but was probably drowned out of my brain by Johnny Quest and Phantom 2040 (that last one needs a DVD release btw, an absolute gem of plot and characters that I later realized was way over my head at the time).

I am very much concerned at the lack of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I know it's not the best, but I feel I must contribute the awesome redundancy that is this song.

The real Batman intro is still probably the 'best' quality intro to cartoon I can recall.

Actually Batman Beyond has a half decent one even if it is a bit 'darker and edgier'. But there's a cool rave bit at about 0.35 thats pretty sweet.

Of course if you like cheese with your morning cartoons you could do a lot worse than The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers!

Just saying but this one has a raptor, a chick with a shotgun combat rolling and Cadillacs: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

As for TV shows rather than cartoons, I rather think the Firefly one is pretty tits.

I can't remember how I've heard of it! I think I used to watch it on the Sci-Fi channel's Saturday morning cartoon run years ago.

The Justice League DCAU intro music is awesome, the actual intro itself is hampered by shoddy CGI.

Oh oh, and King Arthur and the Knights of Justice. If this description doesn't excite you nothing will:

The show's premise had King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table trapped in the Cave of Glass by an enchantress named Morgan le Fay. The wizard Merlin, unable to free King Arthur and the Knights himself, searches the timeline for replacement Knights.

Merlin finds the quarterback of the New York Knights football team, Arthur King, as a suitable replacement. Merlin transports Arthur King and his teammates to Camelot after one of their football games and appoints Arthur King as their leader, with his teammates as the new Knights of the Round Table.

He assigns them the task of defeating Morgana and freeing the true King and Knights. The Knights are armed with special armor and are able to summon their respective creatures at any time when in battle armor. These animals, such as King Arthur's dragon, are emblazoned on their shields.

I really like the intro to House M.D. It's a great thirty second clip.

Even though the entire song isn't bad. Teardrops by Massive Attack.

And really? Noone suggested this? (Ignore the first Three seconds, but its the only vid I could find.

But to win the thread and the internets in general.

I feel kind of invested with this now!

No Red Dwarf yet?

Ha, ha, ha. The Legend of Prince Valiant. Sounds like a half arsed Genesis rip off but love it all the same.

And of course Swat Kats; after all what saves the day faster than wailing guitars?

Awesome recent one with Samurai Jack.

Lets kick it up a notch with some quality hip hop:
The Boondocks
Samurai Champloo

You know cos these are SONGS that introduce TV SHOWS

I like your second choice, I'd forgotten all about Scrubs, I like their newer intro better tho'.

I actually like Scrubs the show too, unlike the Powerranges, but I do like the powerranges intro. =]

Classics. But never saw Samurai Pizza Cats though. My friend do go on about it.

Saw this: The Centurions; Ace McCloud daring air operations! Ace McCloud? Really? Hell yeah.

How come nobody mentioned This yet? Easily the most beautiful intro in the 80's... I mean... Come on...

If we put nostalgia aside though, I'd have to say The original death note intro just beats everything... I'm sorry, but it's just downright perfect.

My favorite anime opening...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4nRyDvNkM0

Followed by the most "win" song I can think of.

Edit: This one's also worth a view, I guess. It's annoyingly catchy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWwEMZ5xqy0&feature=related

For that Witch Hunter Robin theme, you have just won at life. It's such a great bit of music. Has never left any of my media players since I was like 17. Kudo's on that.

I also like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tY2RWg44CUQ and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtUpZRzE9y0

Go go Deathnote + metally stuff.

Same here, actually. It's so bad with me that if I ever (on purpose or by accident) start up the WHR intro, I MUST listen to the entire thing. If I cut it off, I will HAVE to go back to it within that day and hear the whole thing. It's one of my favorite songs of all time.

I considered suggesting Cowboy Bebop, but the actual theme music isn't nearly as good as a lot of other Bebop songs. The intro is great, but Witch Hunter Robin is packing that one-two punch of perfect opening matched with perfect music. I didn't realized just how meaningful that opening was until I was watching the series again. It's rare to find an anime op that contains exposition and character development in it. Also, I think the opening is really good from an artistic standpoint. The animation, for one thing, is without peer (for what it's trying to be).

That Outlaw Star song is another one that's hard to stop listening to. In some ways I consider the song better than the entire series.

In response to the TMNT intro that was posted, I'll post the other, new one. I like it better. The cartoon's not bad, either.

Oh that song is no match for the Bill Nye the Science Guy theme song.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=WjpVQbNpGKo

I hate to say this but... /thread.

There's even remixes of it.

Yeah, that's pretty much the theme song to end all theme songs. And this is coming from someone who loved Power Rangers/it's theme.

I just noticed the weird absence of Captain M-F-ing Planet in this thread so far.

Allow me to burst a pair of bubbles:
Bill Nye the Science Guy has no clout outside of the US, sorry.
Same goes for Carmen San Diego.
Nobody in Europe knows those two.

Rosatdi:
How could I forget Red Dwarf? My brain must've fried.

Never seen the "Who do you call when you want some pepperoni" Pizza Cats? Dude!

Myst is Myst. MyST3K is something completely different.
Didn't air locally and I'm afraid I wouldn't care about it if I saw it now without the fuzzy memories cloud covering it. So I'll just say I love the idea and leave it at that.

Heh, just about everyone I know calls it MyST because 'Em Ess Three Tee Kay' takes too much effort to say apparently.

Loved that show to pieces, the amount each episode made me laugh was just awesome.

And yeah, no Captain Planet? But he's the hero!

Colour me stupid. Really?

I used to watch cartoons on British and German tv all the time but never caught them.
I only learned of their existence through the internet.

I always just pronounced myst3k as myst-eck, bit leet-speakish but it works.

...You all make me sad, I can't watch it yet. I'm at my school, and the school computers don't let youtube up.

But if it's good enough to beat Bill Nye the Science Guy, I'm sure it's damn good.

Carmen Sandiego was absolute shite, and Bill Nye only had a cool intro (I always used to watch the intro then change the channel). So you didn't miss out on much.

Animaniacs and Tiny Toons were always the best though. Just look on youtube for various clips and it's still unbelievebly good. Way better then what kids get nowadays. Pity you can't buy DVDs of them in the UK.
