Jonathan Hexley:

Clashero:
Sarah Brightman - Symphony
Sarah Brightman - Symphony Live In Vienna
Sarah Brightman - A Winter Symphony

I hope I made my point clear ^^

Hm... I take it you don't like Sarah Brightman.

She sings so well that I don't like her!
Seriously, though, I didn't buy any albums (other than those) from 2008. My money went to buying older albums, of modern compilations of old songs (such The Who's Then And Now, which I fullheartedly recommend to anyone who likes 60s-70s rock)

Since I didn't get any new music last year, I'll just post what I listened to over and over.

Of Montreal: Sunlandic Twins
Special Ed and the Short Bus: Ground Beef Patrol
Why?: Alopecia
Coheed and Cambria: No World For Tomorrow
John Coltrane: A Love Supreme (2 disc live album)

Eggo:
Bombay Dub Orchestra - 3 Cities
Nitin Sawhney - London Undersound
Foreign Exchange - Leave It All Behind

...Damn it, there were way too many good albums last year. Here were some more of my favorites:

Kanye West - 808s & Heartbreak
God Is An Astronaut - God Is An Astronaut
John Legend - Evolver
Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
John McLaughlin - Floating Point
Steve Reich - Daniel Variations
Flo Rida - Mail on Sunday

Yeah, that was a great year for music.

Are you serious or not?

Completely serious. Are you profoundly retarded?

Coldplay- Viva La Vida

Old Crow Medicine SHow- Tennessee Pusher

Those are my top albums, but I also really enjoyed the new All American Rejects album as well as Road to Revolution by Linkin Park but I wouldn't rank them as best of 08.

Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold (Sure it technically came out in '07, but late in the year.)

Bullet For My Valentine - Scream Aim Fire (Once again original release was a while ago, but they just released one with four new songs...)

Rise Against - Appeal To Reason

Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone

Opeth - Watershed (Honestly I drew a blank on the last one so I just threw up an album I liked.)

Wow, this is going to be a struggle to get 5. Don't think I've even bought 5 albumns this ear.
Windows media player tells me I have only 5 albums from 2008.
There must be more good stuff, and stuff to my taste that has come out, I think the new living end album came out in 2008, and that was pretty good I guess. Will have to pick it up later.

Black Ice - ACDC
Only by the night- Kings of leon (my brother bought that, guess it counts because I occasionally listen to it.)
Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace- The Offspring
All hope is gone- Slipknot
Professor satchafunkilus and the musterion of rock- Joe Satriani

against me! - New Wave
Flogging Molly - Float
Sam Roberts - Love at the end of the world

Thats all you will ever need for one year, too good to stop listening.

Watershed is terrible compared to other Opeth albums. A big Disappointment IMO

Oh, no, I totally agree. The thing is it is still a good album, just not up to par with their earlier works. My opinion at least.

Although they are an indie band, they're doing wonderfully with magazines like the Rolling Stones. I've fell in love with the Fleet Foxes way before they were noticed, but I never thought they would get this high of recognition so quickly.

Seriously, No DT fans?

Dream Theater - Octavarium, Systematic Chaos, or A Change of Seasons (I can't decide)
Sonata Arctica - For the Sake of Revenge
Kamelot - The Black Halo / One Cold Winter's Night (Live CD, mostly Black Halo songs)
Jeremy Soule - Guild Wars: Eye of the North Soundtrack
Suspyre - When Time Fades...

Seriously, Suspyre's CD kicks any other 2008 CD to death. I don't think I listened to any other artist more than Suspyre this year. I highly recommend it.

In no order

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Dig! Lazarus Dig!
The Drones - Halivah
The Mars Volta - Bedlam In Goliath
Tricky - Knowle West Boy
Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords

I was a little disappointed with this year's offerings, especially the new Opeth and Nine Inch Nails records.

I was going to put Fleet Foxes in but they were just edged out by Johnny Flynn.

What a shame, then you won't be able to enjoy their music or sound cool when you tell people you like them.

EDIT:

n01d34:

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Dig! Lazarus Dig!

Fuck a duck! I forgot Dig was this year. Where's my list again... Frank Turner out, Nick Cave in.

So Long and Thanks for all the Shoes-NoFX
White Noise-Living End
Crime of the Century-Supertramp
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace-Foo Fighters
Alibis and Other Lies-Grinspoon

In about that order as well. Only a few of those are recent albums, but there all ones that I've had on constantly. Seeing three of those bands live probably helped as well.

Hmm. I like the new Fall Out Boy - Folie a Deux\

As you said. No
Just no.
Fall Out Boy sucks.

Anyway, for me

Personal favorite:
Atreyu - Lead Sails and Paper Anchor

My other favorites:
Children of Bodom - BloodDrunk
Pendulum - In Silico
The Offspring - Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace
Slipknot - All Hope Is Gone

That's it for me.

In my previous list I forgot to mention albums that actually came out in 2008:

Turbonegro - Small Feces
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Dig Lazarus Dig (possibly one of the greatest albums ever, ever)
The Teenagers - Reality Check
Xploding plastiX - Treated Timber Resists Rot
Jaguar Love - Take Me To The Sea
Foals - Antidotes
Be Your Own Pet - Get Awkward
The Whip - X Marks the Destination

I also find it really amusing when someone rips off Fall Out Boy, only to recommend Slipknot.

they don't have to have been released that year. just albums you bought or received last year which have made a standing impression on you.

That makes it easier, since I didn't listen to any new albums this year.

Sigh - Imaginary Soniscape
The Beatles - Revolver
The Beatles - Abbey Road
Sarah McLachlan - Fumbling Towards Ecstasy
Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

Only reason I didn't put systematic chaos up was because it was 2007 release, same with the Kamelot album (did get that in 2008 mind)

Exactly! But no, doesn't it annoy you when you think you have a dirty little secret of an awesome band and then everyone suddenly finds them out? And it's more the annoyance that the person in question usually acts like they have. Also, over-exposure and hype has led to some pretty piss awful albums, The Strokes and Kings of Leon come to mind. Where are they supposed to take the sound they have at the moment? They certainly can't repeat it for another album. There should be a Fleet Foxes thread lol.

Firstly, I do believe you are referring to 'The Red Album' for Weezer.
Also, Slash or not, they are still technically Guns N' Roses. It isn't a disgrace to call them that. I mean, if someone you knew changed drastically, would it be an insult to call them by their name? Still technically the same person.
Anyway, Chinese Democracy wasn't the worst album ever. Buckethead for the win~

I didn't really listen to or collect any new music the last 2 years or so.

So, though it was out in 07: Throbbing Gristle - Endless Knot... and probably whatever Venetian Snares has put out recently.
